SOE is one of the worst online gaming companys that exists. This is a last ditch effor by SOE to suck as much money out of the public before this games goes under.

SOE does not care about the customer base, only how much money they can put in their pockets. DO NOT BUY!!!!!!

The facts.

This game is a real Frankensteins monster. This beast is built from three different game engines. One built on top of another. These engines do not seem to like each other all that much. Then there are three expansions with their own quirks tossed in. These expansions by the way have also had to go through rewrites. The net result is utter insanity. This game has no idea what it is, or even what its supposed to be. The end result is its not going anywhere, and it isn't going to take you anywhere. At best you go in circles.

All this bad developement has left this game mired in bugs. More then is acceptable for any game. Furthermore you have to work your way through abandoned mechanics, of mechanics that just refuse to work. You also have to accept that nothing is optimized for the game experience. You will find this game has no real feal other then point n click. Simply put this games combat is unimaginative, and lazy.

This game also suffers from a myriad of other woes. This is a dieing game. The MMORPG community as a whole has abandoned it. Due to the latest engine change in large part. This leaves a empty wasteland in a game where you should be playing with others to get your value. The games developement team is incompetent, abuseive, and disrespectful. In plain english they cannot do their jobs often breaking things that do work. They speak down to their customers, and will call them names. Yes this is the customer support you get with this game. The in game technical support isn't any better.

This game is unstable, and has serious technical issues. The bugs, lag, broken mechanics make playing a chore. The staff is not only not helpful, but rude. Your a customer you deserve some respect, and should never feal insulted. The gameplay itself is poorly conceived not that there is much to do with it. The community which is what a MMORPG is about left in outrage a long time ago.

This game has no redeeming features.

This is a poor excuse for a MMORPG don't waste your money

I played SWG in it's original form "Pre-CU" I continued to play during the CURB (combat upgrade) which wasn't too bad becuase the game was still unique & original vision was still alive.

The NGE version of the game that exists now is just a pure joke. It's dumbed down for very young kids. There is no challenge whatsoever. I recently decided to test the game since they added talents to the game but it's still the same old watered down boring bugged game.

Do yourself a favor and pass on buying this game. If anything just get the demo and see for yourself. One thing will stand out more than anything when you log in You will ask yourself

Where are the other players?

Is this a MMORPG or a single player game?

Trust me the servers are empty and this game will be shutting down soon.

The force is very weak with this one. Take it out back and shoot it......

False advertising

Sony should be sued for false advertising. They call this package "Complete" yet the game is not even close to complete. Only half of the professions are finished and the president of sony online admits this.

Sony counts on new players ignorance to keep milking this game for money. They tell the players fixes are coming even going so far as to post timelines of projected fixes coming. They have done this soo many times its laughable. The fixes never come half the time as Sony totally revamps the game every 6 months. Then they post new projected fixes and the new players think okay I can wait 6 months for the fixes (not knowing how many times in the past sony has lied about this)

This game will never be "complete", Sony just hopes the name star wars will keep it afloat.

Total piece of garbage. Go play World of Warcraft or EVE or any other mmorpg over this junk

Stay away from this game

I played SWG for 2 years and while it had some major flaws, the community more than made up for it. The heart and soul of this game was the community. Then SOE decided that the community did not matter and they basically re-engineered the class system from the ground up, leaving many people with nothing to for their 2 years of playing. They forced people into classes that were poor knock-offs of World of Warcraft and then tried to pass it off as some kind of new concept that they came up with-- the "New Gaming Experience".

The reaction was legendary and gamers left in droves. Those that posted on the official forums about their feelings were found to be banned by the gestapo that runs the SOE gaming forums. The brass from SOE and LucasArts tried to calm the waters and promised crap like being able to purchase a Star Destroyer for a guild, but frankly there is no one left that plays this game anymore.

The only reason that this game still gets subscribers is because of the license. And frankly, that's starting to run thin as well.

This latest product is the latest grab by SOE corporate greed to try and cash in on this game. In 2007 this game will shut down and you will have nothing that you can do with your software. Avoid this game and any other game by SOE like the plague.

Complete Garbage

This is a 3 year old game, repackaged with the expansions to take more money from a non existant playerbase in a last ditch effort. It has won coaster of the year awards on 2 seperate occassions from Gaming Magazines/Websites and has horrible reviews everywhere.

They have profession expertise only completed for about half of thier playable classes after one year of development time (which should have been done before they revamped the entire game a year ago), the game is plagued with bugs, some of which have been in the game for 3 years, but feel it's ok to release a product labeled "complete". This is the kind of misleading advertising and product quality you can expect from Sony Online Entertainment. Lucas Arts also has a policy of releasing games by the deadline whether they are finished or not.

It has no high end content (everything can basically be soloed), and empty servers. The development team at Sony releases expansions for game content (which you pay extra for), that other games such as World of Warcraft or City of Villains give you for free with your monthly subscription.

The communication between the development team/comminity relations manager and playerbase is horrible, as is the customer service. They constantly lie to thier remaining playerbase and give them "carrots on a stick" on the official forums of "In concept ideas" to keep them subscribed or hope some former players read it and re-subscribe. Take afew minutes to review the Game Play Discussion forum on the official website and you'll see subscribers constantly asking for rollbacks, server merges (because of the lack of players), and constant complaints over broken game features.

The development team releases "Chapters" which are game updates/additions once every few months that are only kept on thier testing server for 2 weeks time or less and released on the live paying customers filled with many bugs and game breaking issues. Other quality games will keep things on test servers for almost a month to get many bugs or gameplay features fixed before expecting subscribers to pay to "beta test" for them, and if something is broken they will fix it as soon as possible unlike SOE who leaves issues broken for months.

The majority of players who are left playing this game are only there because they have hope the game will one day be fixed, can't leave behind the friends they've made, play only because it has the Star Wars name attached, or are have never experienced a quality game so they accept the broken game they are paying for as ok. Rarely will you find any person who actually enjoys the current state of the game.

Every new feature they add is something blatantly stolen from World of Warcraft except they fail to do it correctly. The recently copied WOW's talent system and called it expertise, but unlike WOW they develop them to 2 classes every few months so half of the playable professions are underpowered for almost a year. They also copied WOW's flawed Honor System, which Blizzard are revamping because it just rewards people who have more time to play than others. So instead of creating something new they copy a system from another game that they admit doesn't work. The community relations manager even called the expertise system "talents" on the official forums by accident.

This game was on the verge of being closed down a year ago which is why they delivered the New Game Enhancements or NGE. The reason for the NGE was to attract a new playerbase and draw customers from WOW and other games and to make development of the game faster. It has been a year and the game still has half of the professions without the expertise system and hardly any new content added. It has failed miserably and even SOE employees and the President have called it a mistake. If the game was going to be shut down with an estimated 200k subscribers and they have lost probably half of that or more over the last year what does that tell you?

Stay clear of this game at all costs.

The force is not with this game...

Listen to those who have played this game pre-NGE. The current game is a shell of what it use to be. Or, check out SWG's forums. In 6 years of playing online games, I have never seen so many negative posts about the state of a game.

SWG has been partially patched (some bugs are still around from launch!) and re-hashed beyond belief. It is true that SWG is the laughing stock of the online community. This is due to the horrible customer service at SOE who rarely listen to their playerbase. It is also due to the fact that expansions and upgrades are rushed to the market at obscene prices and with too many bugs to list. Bugs that last longer than the professions in the game do.

The expansions are sometimes a ploy to get people to pay more. Remember that one expansion that had a ton of new loot for Master Creature Handlers only, then not even a week after the expansion was released, they discontinued Master Creature Handlers. They did refund those who wanted one, but only after a couple thousand angry posts and threats. Customer service and foresight at it's best...

You will hear hundreds of subscribers say "rollback to pre-CU" or "NGE stinks!" for a reason. The CU was nothing to NGE. At least with CU the game resembled what it once was. Before NGE, each character was unique. You really didn't know if the guy you were about to attack was a Master Bounty Hunter/Master Carbineer or a Master Pistoleer/Master Doctor (my favorite) or anything else in between. Some weapons or armor gave part of them away (role specific), yet you could be whatever mix you wanted. Now it has been dumbed down to a bunch of clones in a FPS style game. You always know what a lv 80 commando is capable of, because he is just the same as every other lv 80 commando! I won't even get into the Jedi as a starting profession.

As someone else said, save the money and buy Battlefront 2. This game has become worse and worse since launch. Don't believe me? Look at the empty servers...

What once was fun is now dead

Bought the game back in June of 2004, played it through roughly November of 2005. In November they absolutely ruined the game by changing everything in it to make it a World of Warcraft clone.

What I once loved is what I now hate. DO NOT waste your time with this game, it's repetitive, boring, and all the servers are basically empty. The game is dying, don't waste your money on something that will die soon.

I will say it I love the game and will probably always will... but I cannot stand the business practices of SOE. So if you love Star Wars and want to try the game go for it, but keep a wary eye... it seems each time people start to have fun again with the game SOE revamps it.

I actually bought this - my review matters

With 100% honesty, I bought this game after quitting preCU SWG (right around the holocron era). The game is worse than it ever was. It's almost impossible to "emmerse yourself" when there's no one else around you. Who could ever imagine a city on Naboo empty????

Every town is a ghost town. Players have quit this game bc of the horrible CSR's and Devs. When I walked into Bestine and saw 6 other people at 8pm on a Friday - it made me want to cry.
