Haven't had a person around to play Scrabble with in years and miss having a GOOD game. You can set the levels from Novice to Tournament or anything in between with the Custom feature.
The online dictionary is handy (even though technically it shouldn't be used during play). You can hit a button to "define last" when the computer plays a word you're not familiar with. Other features include a list of "q" words without "u" and online help you can use based on the letters on your rack. I never use this because it's like cheating.
I'm enjoying it very much and got one for my mother as well. Haven't gone to play on Internet yet but may pursue that as well.

I am one of those Scrabble players that wants to keep playing and playing, even when my fellow human players are sick of it. That's where a computer player comes in. I've played five or six games in a row against the computer.
The game is much improved from the first version, with cleaner graphics and better playing levels. Also, you can choose to play against as many as three computer players. I've found that playing this game has really helped me improve my Scrabble strategies, and my scores have increased steadily.
One feature I really like about this game is the statistics it keeps. You can see your Scrabble rating, and compare that with the official Scrabble levels. The game keeps other statistics, such as your number of wins, winning percentage, highest game, highest single play, and it breaks down your statistics according to one-person, two-person, three-person, or four-person games, as well as tournaments (timed matches).

I have played Scrabble, the board game, for years and was really excited to begin playing the first Scrabble CD. I ventured to the MSN Gaming Zone and had more fun! Then someone online mentioned something about Scrabble 2.0, so I ordered it. Wow! Outstanding graphics, the tiles "click" just like the ones you hold in your hand, very well laid out with lots of accessories and provides a variety of interaction. While online, you can add emoticons and sounds! Lots of fun!

Scrabble 2 makes the first version look prehistoric in comparison. The new version has sound effects, selection of jazz tunes, animated Maven (computer opponent and Judge), optional board styles, a dictionary and suggestion lists. I never wanted to play the original board game but now I do and its a lot of fun. Great game for kids and adults. You will definitely learn some new words. Scrabble is finally fun! Definitely get this one, dont make the mistake of buying the first version, unless you still have Windows 95. It is slow and you must change color displays if you have 98. If your into word games, you must own this!

I too had the same problem as "A Gamer". Here's the five minute solution: go to hasbrointeractive.com, click on technical support at bottom of page, click patches page, click Scrabble version 2.0, click Scrabble2 patch.exe, run the program and then enjoy this fabulous game. Hope this helps.

I have found when I first tried to play the scrabble game, I had the same problem of the screen going blank and machine crashing.
I have found once the software is installed, if you find the main loading file, usually .exe extention in the location you installed it too, and right click on this file and choose properties, you can then choose compatibility, I selected run in 256 colour mode and the game runs fine.
I hope this helps.

This is an excellent game to play against your computer (Maven in this case). There's no better way to play the great classic game of Scrabble than on a computer! No lost tiles to deal with; no tiles to shuffle; no scorekeeping difficulties. All this is done for you! And the dictionary function is outstanding. Good graphics, background options, and sound effects as well. I feel that "Maven" has a distinct advantage over the average Scrabble participant here however, in that The Big M (Maven) ALWAYS knows those big, long, oddball-type words that you & I would never even consider plopping down! But it's fun when you can beat Maven, especially when it's set for a high skill level. Just keep in mind, Scrabble-philes, QWERTY is a valid word!
Totally Addictive!

I received this game as a birthday gift in August and not a day has gone by since then that I haven't played it. I was already a HUGE Scrabble player, but now I am totally 100% addicted. This game has greatly improved my skill and I love that I can increase the skill level as needed. I also like that I do not have to have anyone else to play with, but can just play against the computer. When I do play with other people now it is so much nicer playing on the computer - you never have to worry about missing tiles or cleaning up the tiles after you are finished. I was confident that this would be my last Scrabble purchase, but now that there is a new hand held Scrabble game I am not so sure...
Great classic game

Scrabble CD-rom is the game that we all grew up with but updated so that you can play on your computer. There are 6 different skill levels and you can play many different type games including classic scrabble against the computer, other players (up to 4), tournaments, online and special new mini games.
The best way is to challenge "maven" the computer opponent. You can chose his skill level and increase it as you progress. The game also contains a dictionary so there is no arguing over which words are real.
To help you, there is a cheat/hint code in the game that you can take advantage of when you are stuck.
I have a Sony Vaio computer running windows XP and i had no trouble installing and playing this game. Scrabble CD rom is the classic game but made modern and more fun.

This new, update version of Scrabble on CD-ROM is as entertaining as its' boardgame equivalent. Providing challenges that even the most professional players will find challenging, Scrabble 2 is a great to kill free time or develop your vocabulary skills.
The addition of a dictionary, in addition to the games screen views only adds to the excitement that the boardgames lacks when it comes to design and usefulness. The people at Hasbro have done it again, and I am totally elated that they decided to release this updated version on CD-ROM.
So if you are a single player in look for some major competition, or want to compete with a friend online, Scrabble 2 is your guarantee for an entertaining time. Add this to your shopping basket today, and see what I am raving about.
