An okay game.

I really enjoy the Nancy Drew series. This game is the first in that series made by Herinteractive. However, this is my least favorite game. For one, this game has two disks in it which you are constantly switching during gameplay. The second thing is that all the other Nancy drew games (#2-#11) have wonderful 3D characters to interact with. This game does not. You are still able to interact with characters and find clues, but the characters in this game are simply 2D cartoons. Rather poor animation in my opinion. I suggest you save your money to buy one of the following, better animated, Nancy Drew games by Herinteractive:

#2. Stay Tuned for Danger
#3. Message in a Haunted Mansion
#4. Treasure in a Royal Tower
#5. The Final Scene
#6. Secret of the Scarlet Hand
#7. Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake
#8. The Haunted Carousel (I have not yet played this game yet so I can't give an opinion.)
#9. Danger on Deception Island
#10. Secret of Shadow Ranch
#11. Curse of Blackmoor Manor

This game does have a good story plot and surroundings though. So if you can see through the annoying disk switching and aren't bothered by the lowsy characters. I suggest you give this game a try.

I read Nancy Drew religiously in my early teenage years so I was really anxious to try these games when I heard of them. I really wished I had skipped this though. It was terrible. The graphics are too cartoonish. The characters are flat and one dimensional. It doesn't take very long at all to play. I finished it in a fraction of the 20 hours that the package promises. And the thing I disliked most about it was all of the coded messages. It has a lot of messages hidden around but they do not advance you in the game and do nothing more than give away each of the characters secrets. The messages just kill any suspense in the game. Oh and the game also has two discs and you have to go keep going from one disc to the other throughout the game. It's not too much of an inconvience, but this game just isn't worth it. I don't recommend this game unless you just have to own all of them.

This is the third Nancy Drew cd game I have purchased. I have bought them in reverse order, though, with Message in a Haunted Mansion being first, then Stay Tuned for Danger, then this one. I highly recommend all of them. They are all a lot of fun, challenging and humorous in places. My only complaint on this one (which wouldn't change my opinion on how much fun it is to play) is that this is the only one out of all three that uses cartoon drawings for the characters, instead of 3D graphic animation, like the other two. The scenery is all 3D,though, just like the rest. Needless to say they improved upon this minor detail in the other two games. They are definitely must-buys!

Excellent Game For Older Kids

I bought this game for my 8 year old daughter who is an advanced reader and loves Nancy Drew. She really loves it and plays it a lot. The game is a little hard for her, but she loves the challenge. The one drawback for younger kids is that it is a little scary. She has to turn the music down and her little sister can't be in the room. She also feels more comfortable if I'm with her. She and I have really enjoyed playing together. I'm sure any kid, even boys, would enjoy this game if they are a mature 10 or 12 years old.

Look Past the Flaws and this is a really good game.

Okay so this game has 2 discs, that you constanly have to switch out to play the game, and yes the graphics in this game are cerntinly not the best, but so what?!?

Secrets can kill is the first game in the nancy drew seris, so of course its graphics are gonna be horrible, but if you look past the 2 discs switching ,and the 2-D graphics , this game is absoultly amazing!

Our story starts in Flordia, when Aunt Eloise writes to Nancy , telling her that a murder has been commited at Paso Del Mar High School. A guy named Jake Rogers was pushed off a flight of Stairs for no reason and got he face all squished up. But , hang on, was thier a reason? As Nancy asked the students around the campus, she finds out that nobody really liked Jake , and everyone thought he was a "total creep" or "slimeball". Did one of Paso Del Mar High School students commit the crime?!? Find out for yourself in this wonderful game!

And please, look past the 2-d graphics , and the switching of 2 discs. :)

Secrets Can Kill isn't a bad game but I didn't like having to change disks very time I wanted to go somewhere else. It's very annoying.

This was truly a great game. If you enjoy puzzles, mysteries, and secret codes, I strongly suggest you try this game. Though you'll get stuck at times, Secrets Can Kill is the ultimate boredom buster.
Strangly, many people say this was the worst Nancy Drew game. I strongly disagree. If you've never played Nancy Drew before, you should start with this one. The others are great, but they're super hard and downright impossible to beat.
One more tip:Stay away from Danger on Deception Island and The Secret of the Scarlet Hand. You'll NEVER win.(I sure haven't.)Sadly, this is the only Nancy Drew game I've ever beaten, though I'm working on the others. Chow!

For being a game published in 2001, this should have been much better, at least technically, than it was. There was a poor timing match between the visual effects and the sound effects, it was difficult to find where to place the pointer in the save/restore area, the sounds/music were poorly recorded and generated a lot of hissing/static, and the too-frequent need to switch CDs during play were major minuses in a game that could have been ok. When Nancy has conversations with the characters, if the questions asked/answered aren't done in the proper order, the game doesn't progress and you either have to start over or restore a saved game. Also, saving is critical because there are some actions Nancy can take that will result in disaster, necessitating a restore.

The story wasn't bad, even for an adult (very similar to the novels) but the technical flaws made this a exercise in frustration.

Great game!

I love all Nancy Drew games, but this one is sadly my least favorite. Don't get me wrong, I still loved it! The only reason I'm not giving it 5 starts is because of the graphics (the other Nancy Drew games have real looking people, this had cartoons) and having to change cd roms when going to a new location. That was kind of annoying. But other than those two minor things, it's a great game!

very good game

I bought this game for my daughter for her 14th birthday. I didn't play the game myself but saw that she had a great time with it. She's been playing Nancy Drew games for about 5 years now and enjoys them a lot. Sometimes I do sit down and help her solve a mystery. She always is anxious for the next game to come out! I believe she has solved all of the current ones out now.
