The ultimate in first person shooters to date. The games story line pulls you into it. It will drive you to progress throught the game. Halflife is an intense white knucker ride!

I strongly reccomend you buy this computer game. It is the best shoot-em-up game I've ever played. And Believe me, I've played many First-Person action games. The game is about a chemical accident in a lab that sends creatures roaming all over the place. On top of that, the army has descided to destroy everthing/one involved with the project. You are Gordon Freeman. All of the scientists are counting on you to save them.

A huge explosion rock the place when you realized there's something wrong, large electric bolts burned through the glases as you watch your scientist friends got blast into pieces. All is clear suddenly and you found yourself surrounded by alien environment, what's going on?

Welcome to the most adrenaline rushing, and the bloodiest game of all time. Obviously an experinment failed, transporting hostile aliens into your own world. Walk through office complexes, crawl through mazelike shafts, or even teleport to and alien world, yes, it's all Half-life. In this game you have to act fast, think fast, or your enemies will have your down in a second. Cunning tentacles, disgusting garantuas, and even your own kind hunts you down as you go through the levels.You have to utilize everything you could find to stay alive, look around corners, strafe to see if an unwanted object is in your way.

This game is THE best game I've ever played, and that's a lot of good games like Quake III, Diablo II, Starcraft, and Alien Versus predator. This game could keep you awake, make you wondering if the creak of the door isn't made by another life form... Use your machine guns to mow down layers and layers of AI filled aliens and run past layers of layers of undestructable nemisis, who could ask for more? The weapons, the enemies and even the way they die would keep you amazed as you open the box of Half-life.

Not that I've not warned you, but players without guts be beware...

if you are starting HalfLife. This is not some Nintendo game that you play and forget about. This is a time crunching game that makes you decide whether or not you are going to get in bed in time to go to work in the morning. Better yet, stay up, blow off work and enjoymthis bizarre futuristic, realistic world. Understand it ain't easy. But if it was easy there would be no challenge. You become Gordon Freeman, a scientist who must lead others to safety after an experiment goes awry. You must face aliens, disasters, and government commandos all of which are designed to keep you in the Black Mesa complex that is falling apart around your head. It is also more than a shoot'em up. There is a lot to solve and understand if are going to conquer HalfLife.

If you like to admit it or not this is undoubtedly the greatest PC game ever. It has a story that makes many great sci-fi novels look poorly written. Even more astunding than the story is the way in which it is presented, it blows the socks off of the gamer with its subtle little touches that make this game so much fun to play. The AI is the best ever in any game. If you are walking around the black mesa reasearch facilty and you shoot and kill a guard you can listen to the squad members communicate via their radios. "Watch for Freeman" is just a general comment . They also make comments based on what you do. If you lob a gernade in their direction they will shout "What the..." followed by "Run,Run". The monster AI is fantastic as well. In fact, the monsters and soldiers will fight each other.If that is not enough then you must consider counter-strike. Counter-strike is a modification to the game where you join a team online. You are either terrorists or the SWAT team. One last comment. If you are offended at all by dismembered bodies, buckets and buckets of blood, realistic gunplay etc. then don't get this game. Otherwise, get it and enjoy it.

I've been playing PC games for years. This game is the BEST that I've played to date. I haven't found one yet that can beat it. Some come close, but none have surpassed. Fist time I played this game (yes I've played it many times) It scared the heck out of me. I go so sucked into this game, I was up until after 3:00am. After I finished it, I had to go out and buy all of the extra packs for Half-Life. If you don't have this game in your PC collection...consider getting it now. You just may LOVE it! :)

Awesome Sci-Fi and Great First Person Shooter

I fell in love with this game just playing the demo. In a unusual twist the single player version is AWESOME!!-unlike countless other games in the genre. I have not played the multi-player version yet but I have seen EVERYWHERE you can find info that it is great. The settings and environments are truly awesome with a great sci-fi feel, and the graphics are incredibly amazing.The first 30-40 minutes of game play is overly gory so queasy gamers should beware, HOWEVER if you can stiffen your resistence and get through it you will be endlessly rewarded.The first area alone is huge, and you progress seamlessly to new areas which progress the plot.. The best thing is the powerful way the game sets the mood it can be truly creepy, humorous, or just awe-inspiring as you gaze at unique and creatively designed aliens, even when you are in extreme danger as they come to attack you. Aliens and sci-fi are nothing new in this genre but the unique presentation and high quality make this game stand out above the rest. When I say creepy i do not mean "when is the enemy gonna jump me?" I mean "oh my god these aliens are unbelievably scary and I'm all alone and and...hey wait a minute its only a game" The aliens themselves are truly unique you wont see the overused roswell type aliens but ingenious creations that make you think these people must have studied biology they are well structured, act realisticly for their body construction and situation and means of survival- i mean these seem like REAL creatures not some dopey artificial intelligence monsters.and this is just from the beginning of the game, I have not played it through all the way but it just gets better!! You do not need to take my word for it just look this game up just about anywhere...If you play it you will immediately realize why it got its well deserved game of the year award. It is one of the few games today that restores your faith in 3 dimensional gaming when you happen to be a lover of traditional 2-dimensional game classics like i am. and part 2 is on the way!!! if you play first person shooters you MUST BUY THIS!!!!!

Mention first person shootears and this is probably the first game that will come to your mind. its' tht damn good!

i first played this game in 2000.. asked my sister from american to get it for me. was so excited after playing uplink(the half life demo) that i just could'nt wait..and as soon as i installed it onto my computer.. i was hooked.. i had never seen anything like this.. i mean, duke nukem and doom 2 were appetisers compared to this baby!!

okay.. about the game :

WEAPONS : you start off with a crowbar and slowly move on to advanced guns like the machine gun,RPG,M-16(aaaaah)magnum,gauss,etc. But the RPG is my all time fav. Guiding missiles with ur mouse controls.. i mean.. how cool is that?
i used to mess around with the missiles half of the time.. just for fun:)
unlike doom or duke nukem. guns ARE'NT Just lying somewhere. You're supposed to collect most of them from the dead enemies, which makes it so real. i was surprised when i got the machine gun after killing one of the soldiers. i was expecting it to be lying somewhere, waiting for me to pick it up.. or a miracle! You might find it funny but these are just some of the minor details which earlier games did'nt have.. guess the guys at valve were taking this a little seriously,which is a good thing.

ENEMIES : the best AI ever. the soldiers, the crabheads, the 'oh so cool' apache helicopters, the huge monsters at the end of the game.. ooooh(drooling)..!!!
every enemy was detailed and hit back at you. they don't wait for you to make a move. If the see you coming, u better be prepared. a slight noise and they're gonna come back at you with everything they've got. they reload and use ammunition in the same way tht u do.

STORY : wow!! breathtaking.. this game is totally story driven. right from the beginning. You're probably thinking wht's so good about the story.. every game has a story,probably even better than this one. But i dont think any game out there allowed you to be a part of the story like this one did. it is so intense and it just sucks you in.
There is this one part of the story called APPREHENSION, where the kidnap gordon freeman. I've showed this scene to my friends over and over and over again. These 2 soldiers are carrying you and you have no guns with you nothing.. You just wait for their coneversation to get over. You have no idea what they are going to do to you, what's coming next.. It is one of the coolest scenes ever. And it's not CGI. It's actually the game. You're in it..
You actually would want to complete the game just to know what happens at the end. I knew that the moment i defeated the final monster, there was something bigger coming. And that is exactly what happened.. One of the BEST and the coolest ENDINGS for an FPS EVER!!!

To sum it up.. i would give this game 5 stars all the way for its cool factor and its originality. I have'nt played half life 2, quake 4,F.E.A.R. and doom 3 yet.. but my new PC is on the way..should have it in a week.. an athlon 3500, 1 GB ram and a 6600 nvidia geforce.. have already bought the games and cant wait to play half life 2.. it has been rated game of the year and i'm sure they already have a platinum edition out for it yet. They are just taking games to the next level!!
Thank you valve. We'll never forget this game.. It is a classic!!

BEST GAME EVER. SEE THE PERIOD???

This game is the best game to ever grace the human race. I bought this game three years ago, and haven't bought another shooter since. The story line is awesome, with about 6 hrs of gameplay IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. The first time through, it took me, a FPS (first person shooter) expert several months to beat. This game features many great puzzles, monsters, guts and more.

Replay value? Its got it. With the best multi-player games avaialable, and also being able to download "modifications" of the game - it has kept me and thousands of other gamers lovin' it! Free for download, or hundreds of different versions of the game, with new missions, guns, etc. Using the basic Half-life engine, there are hundreds of great games out there that are totaly unique! And all this for free once you buy half life! Right now I'm into the Mod (modification) called "Day Of Defeat" it like medal of honor, but much better because of the realism, gameplay. Counterstrike, (#1 Internet Game In the World) is free for download, and also a mod for half life. this game has kept me busy for 3 years and counting. The graphics are pretty good, but outdated now. Don't let that stop you, though. Go for it, thousands of other gamer's have, and never regret it!

Did not like this game too much

First I have to say I had just finished Deus Ex before playing this game. The graphics are a bit dated by today's standards. I must say I did like the interaction with the scientists and the security guards, the the voice for the scientists are perfect. Also the military guys were fun to fight. I enjoyed fighting them more then I did the monsters. The game's strongest point was the characters; it was a fun game in that respect.
As far as gameplay goes, I was not too impressed. Most of the "puzzles" were nothing more then jumping or moving from one place to another in a certain sequence, killing monsters while you were doing so. Plus the puzzles did not seem to have any reason for being there; they just were, so most of them added nothing to the story.
I am sure if I had played this game when it came out, I might have liked it more then. If you are looking for a good game, get Deus Ex for story gameplay and graphics. Or get Unreal for eye candy. Either one blows half life away.
