One of the finest games ever to grace the PC.

This game was first released in November 31st back in 1998. It was hailed as one of the best PC games of all time. Everything about the game was perfect. Now, in 2003, the game shows no signs of wearing down as Mods are continued being made by fans of the series. Counter-Strike, which you may have heard is the number #1 most played game on the net, is available free to download to any owner of Half-Life. On any day, you can see over 10,000 servers filled with players working like a team(well, most of the time) to kill the opposing forces.

And what about the original game? It still rocks! The storyline, in which you must escape a testing facility after an unusual invasion occurs inside is just brilliant, just wait till you play see it. The graphics are still good even though the game is almost 5 years old, and the sound used for the effects are amazing. Be prepared to be amazed, to be scared, and to have fun with Half-Life and it's 100+ awesome mods!

Here's my ratings...

Graphics - 5/5 - Awesome graphics for a 1998 game. Gory, bloody, horrifying, everything you want in a shooter. If you have a Voodoo3, the graphics will look amazing. The explosions are one of the best, too.

Sounds - 5/5 - One of the first shooters to have crisp clear voicing that doesn't sound bad! The gunshots and explosion sounds are timed accordingly to fit the animation. There are hardly any music, which is cool. Especially when you're not sure if your head's gonna get blown off, you REALLY don't want to be hearing some catchy song. Hehe.

Gameplay - 5/5 - Incredible. After I played Quake 2, I thought to myself... 'there couldn't be a better game.' But then I came upon this game two years later. It revolutionized all 3d shooters. Without Half Life, there wouldn't be a Return to Castle Wolfenstein or a Red Faction. The gameplay is awesome. Its better off playing in Hard mode, that way you get to play the game like its real life. Just a couple shots and you die instead of forty shots. That's what I like about this game, the realism.

Misc - 5/5 - The story is wonderful. It's old but it's still cool. The game is very user friendly. I believe it is the first 3D Shooter to use the mouse for look and shoot, the keyboard for movement and other stuff. I really liked this option, it's PHAT!

OverAll - 5/5 - Great game, if you've never played it, you must!

Buy it if you want, but i dont reccomend it

First of all, the graphics STINK! The game play wasn't that bad.
The story line was ok. After a while it became one of those shoot at everything you see kinda games. Im sure it was awesome when it came out but this is now, not then! If you want a good fps game get Ghost Recon or Medal of Honor Allied Assult, those are two awesome games. If you want buy it, go ahead, I won't be the one throwing my money out the window.

I'll admit, the only reason that I play this game is to get to Counter-Strike, the best realistic first-person shooter ever devised!

When first played this game I had high expectations. The game was a let-down though. This is a typical run-of-the-mill shooter. There's nothing terribly revolutionary about it. OK graphics, OK aliens, OK weapons, and OK gameplay make this an OK game. The only thing above average is the AI for both friend and foe alike. Buy UT instead, it's great, not just OK.

this game is mind blowing. the story is awesome and the aliens actually have alien like features. Unlike other games, the arsenal is realistic and the setting is realistic. you can use your surroundings to help you kill the aliens. Warning: this game is very addicting. The only minor flaw was the graphics. don't get me wrong. the graphics were great but not up to my standards. After playing games like Morrowind, Splinter Cell, and the Unreal series, the graphics weren't that great. Another thing that bugged me was some of the wierd things you have to do. Sometimes you have to go back to where you started because you got lost. It happened to me once. The bottom line is if you like first person shooters (fps) then get this game.

This is a classic shoot 'em up game. ive had it for about 4 years, mabye more. its ALWAYS been fun for me. recently ive been more into internet gaming (with my new cable modem to thank for that)! the counterstrike mod is SPECTACULAR, and so is 'The Specialists'. it is fun all around!

There are traps in this game where you always die no matter how good you are. Things such as the floor falling out from you and thing falling on you always kill you the first time. Only after you know about it can you avoid them. This game is also still full of bugs. The game control itself also is bad.

When I started playing, I thought it would be boring, but, it was one of the funest,intense, and frightining games I've played ever. I would say that it is a master of epic proportions.
