I bought this game, installed it, and became instantly addicted. I tried to make them happy and then I killed them. I tortured them and got them pets. They had sex, they got abducted, they drank gross potions and moved up in the crime world. THE BEST GAME EVER!!! Eat your heart out, first person shooters!
A great game..

The sims is an incredible game.. It really feels like you are playing yourself in the computer, but except for a few things, whenever they are in need of something and you order them to do it before they need the "need filled" they will turn around and immediatedly delete what you told them to do, and they just stand there and wave for a loong time, I couldn't imagine doing that for five minutes..
And one of the bad things.. The graphics are the most low-detailed graphics I have ever seen in games. They look kind of like cartoons. But when you upgrade to the sims 2 or the sims on console, they all look incredibly real. And another bad thing, you CANT have a third floor, and you really can't get close up to your sims to see their faces. And I mostly like games with good graphics.
And also, the create-a-sim was a little weird for me, I really couldn't see the sim that much. But that doesn't matter anymore unless you buy a dive and do a dive and you'll be able to see your sims, and notice that they are actually flat.
Oh well. The sims 2 is a huge improvement to this, but if you don't really like highly detailed games, I recommend this game.
terribly addictive

This fun and interesting game allows you to make a mockery of your own life, reveling in the commercialism that captivates every American.
The game is almost a satire. You begin by building a single person or family, choosing personality and appearances. With 20,000 Sim dollars you can begin by buying a lot, building your home, and buying necessary appliances and furniture. A large part of the enjoyment for me is playing interior decorator with all the architecture practice, wall treatment and flooring options, and great home furnishing and toys. These people must get jobs, to get money, to get more fabulous things! Career success (and raises) depend upon attitude, controlled by your Sim's health and happiness barameters, number of friends, and skills. Marriage combines the income of the partnering Sims, so it really encourages Black Widow behavior.
The game is highly addictive because it takes time for your Sim to earn enough money to buy the decorations and furniture YOU want. The add-ons encourage the habit.
The game is awesome, and there is quite a following so be sure to hunt online for cool looks, appliances, and objects to download into your game.
Super Fun Fun Fun!!

I absolutely love the Sims. It might possibly be one of the best games of all time. (In my opinion anyway) I love being able to control people's lives and create anything from a humble, little cottage, to a spralling, forest estate. What makes the game even better is, that you can download more skins, objects, and homes off the internet. I wasn't pleased with the small selection of furniture so I went online and found tons to download for free. This game is very addictive and you'll most likely go through spells where all you will want to do is play The Sims. I can almost guarantee that you'll tire of it after a while, but don't worry, you'll get addicted again. ;)
I am so happy with this game!!!

In a word I LOVE THIS GAME!!!! Okay that's four words, but really I had been looking forward to buying The Sims for my new computer for school and decided to wait till after Christmas when it was on sale (which saved me 10 bucks btw) and I am a very satisfied customer.
The game itself is just as addictive as everyone claims, I can't help but daydream in class that I can play as soon as I get home, I keep trying to figure out new ways to dress my Sims up and what kind of design to use for their houses it's just that much fun and it's a great way to relax before homework. I highly recommend getting this game.
I love this game but a couple of things drive me nuts!

This is a great game and it allows you to be very creative in your choices. I love it and have spent many hours creating my characters, building their homes, forming their relationships, etc.
Just a couple of things drive me nuts, though! I hate it when the characters get "stuck" in a particular spot because one of the other characters won't move! Also, the design options for furniture, paintings, etc. are kind of limited in my opinion. It would be great if they developed expansion packs just for those items...unless they do and I just don't know about it!
But would I recommend buying it? Yes!
Best original Sim game!

This is an excellent sim game. It's actually simulation at its very best. This game simulates real life. You buy a house, get a job, build relationships, furnish your house, grow in strength and intelligence, etc. It's a very well thought out piece of software.
Here's my pet peeve (and it may be a user problem rather than a software problem!): Everytime I have a baby it gets taken away by Social Services! The baby cries and the lady shows up and takes it away. I can't get past this, so I can't improve my status. I also don't know what to do about the people in the other houses? That's not clear to me.
Be warned: when starting out, you will play this games for HOURS on end. Eventually you will tire of it, but until then, watch out!
Entertaining

I had heard a lot about SIMS and had read an article on the advantages of video games to kids, so I bought is for my kids and they enjoy it. I have tried it and find it interesting and entertaining. Great time management excercise and it forces you to make decisions based on information presented and see the results of those decisions.
