Spare yourself (and your computer) the grief...

The demo for this game {if one could call it that) was on the Sims Hot Date, or some expansion for the Sims. It seemed pretty fun, and since they restricted you to 3 courses, I really wanted to know what it was like to build a big golf resort. And so, I got caught in the trap. I went out and bought Sim Golf... The worst waste of money in my life. I quickly became bored with the different buildings (there are so few!), and although the course building tool was kind of interesting, it was far from addicting...The actual golfing aspect of the game required no skill, and the houses you build for celebrities are a plain waste of time...It is a plain waste of time, money, and of course, megabytes. I can't wait 'till the Sims Superstar comes out...Don't make the same mistake I did, and get a better game. This is just a plain disgrace.

Do yourself a favor and pass on this game. It's neither a good golf game or tycoon game. While you will initially have fun with this game the repetitiveness of it all will quickly bore you, it's just not a good game.

Warning! SimGolf does not work with IBM Thinkpads

I love this game. However, don't try to play it on an IBM Thinkpad. It will play for 4 minutes and then freeze up. Tech support still hasnt' solved the problem. Just a heads up!

Quality cake with nasty crisco frosting

Sure, this game is fun in a progressive, construction set way. Civilization simplfied and narrowed to keeping your golfers amused, not playing too slowly, and well fed and rested. No doubt, building a golf course and watching the little guys take it on is fun for a while. The game is cake.

But... Entering and exiting the game is a pain, it takes forever considering the modest graphics and sound. I'm using a new, fast P4, why does it take so long to load, and why is EA so paraniod about priracy that you have to enter a code, and then, everytime you start up, the CD has to be in your CD drive. Also, why can't a simple tap on the enter key skip over the intro, and why two screens and an animation just to get out of the game. The frosting is just sickenly sweet and greasy. Oh, and all this is after downloading the patches from the website.

The basic game is great (after patches), but the stupid, stupid stuff that EA (apparently) did to it just annoys me. I suggest you skip the hassle and look at something else.

Fun... for a few hours

This game was fun when I first got it. I am not a fan of golf, but I am a fan of sim games, so I thought "What the heck. why not?" BIG MISTAKE! The game is NOT worth the price (money) because after a few hours of watching little sim people play on your course, you get a little bored. If you are not a fan of golf I do not recomend this game for you. If you are a fan of golf, you will probably enjoy it.

Merely OK, and a bit buggy.

This is certainly not the best game Sid Meier has ever put his name on, a long shot from the civilization series. But I like golf, and I like sims, so this game seemed like a natural. The interface is very similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon, though the game offers far fewer options in terms of locale types and amenities. The "golfing" element of the game is a bit silly as well. The game offers you the opportunity to golf against a "pro" or to compete in tournaments to raise money for your course. The thing is that you are given very little control over whether you win or lose. You click in the direction you want the ball to go, and the computer decides how successful the shot is based upon the abilities your player has earned through various accomplishments throughout the game. Overall, it gets a bit boring after a while as there is only so much you can do to spice up a golf course without driving your sims nuts, and only so many times you can play your own course. It's a good idea, but not quite worth the money they are asking.

Another issue with this game is bugs. This game has more than it's fair share. Out of the last 20 times or so that I have tried to play, I have had to reload the game or reboot my computer at least 3 or 4 times. That's not horrible, but it's certainly more than avaerage and definately enough to ruin the experience, especially after builing up a cool course.

Promising but too easy

The game starts out where you need to conserve money and build your holes just right. But after you've made three holes the money starts to pour in and you can make any kind of hole and people will love it. Way too easy. The most annoying part of the game is that you constantly have to wait for the county commisioner to come and allow you to buy land. The waiting gets tedious when you have no room to build, and therefore nothing to do. The game starts out well but quickly becomes a tedious bore, fun but boring.

Good game.....for about 3 days.

First of all, why do people review games and give 5 stars months before a game is released? Some reviewers haven't even played a demo.

Anyway, I am a big Sid Meier/Will Wright fan and always expect great games from them. This game is average at best. This game is graphically pleasing, but there is no depth. At first I was surprised at how little documentation came with this game. The manual is tiny. However, I think it is because the game is so 1 dimensional.

Yes, you can design a golf course and tend to a limited number of your sim golfers' needs. But, where is the replayability? Am I going to want to play this game again so I can have a 3rd hole with a dog leg left instead of a dog leg right? I don't think so. I guess I expected more strategy; something I could sink my teeth into.

Very disappointing.
