Got old fast

I enjoyed SimGolf for the first few hours I played it. Building a highly rated course was a fun challenge. I eventually learned the 'template' to creating highly rated holes, however this 'template' doesn't mesh with realistic golf.

I play the traditional three-click swing golf games, and I was not challenged with the method of playing the course presented here.

SimGolf is not a bad game. I got several hours of enjoyment out of it, but it then became quite tedious.

Fun designing and playing

I bought this game a few years ago for $20 and it is still one of the best games I've ever bought. The game lets pick a part of the world you want to build a golf course, lets you design it down to the last detail and best of all you get to place the courses that you build. I never get tired of this game.

Great golf game

This is one truly good golf game, and sim game, for that matter. I downloaded the demo version and found it to be quite entertaining. You don't need to enjoy golf at all to enjoy this game, as I am HORRIBLE at real golf, but thoroughly enjoyed this software.

It is fun to watch guests come in and watch them golf and hear their comments, and it is fun to watch your own character, which you receive at the start of your game, improve. I thought one of the truly unique features of this game was the ability to enter tournaments and play on your course as your character. You get to line up your shots, pick what type of shot, etc, allthough you do not get to putt, which didn't take away any of the experience for me.

The only things I would advise you to be ready for are the following:

1. There are occasional graphics glitches, although this may be a demo problem, I don't know.
2. There are frequent spelling problems by the programmers in game, as well as grammatical and punctuational. This won't bother most people, but it's something to watch for.

All in all, I would say to buy this game, or if you don't believe me, download the demo from EA's Web site, ea.com. When I find the right deal on the price, I am going to purchase the full copy. Enjoy!

You wouldn't think this could be all that much fun, but it kept me entertained for hours. This truely was a surprise to me. A cure little game like this, and it is just as fun as all the high-profile, high-budget games...

There are some shortcomings though. For one, the graphics would be much more impressive, if there were more zoom levels. There is all kinds of stuff going on, and I would like to see these things up close.

Also, I ended up running out of things to do on some of the courses. It would be nice if one could build more than one course on a property. For instance, I ended up building an 18 hole course on a lot that was a bit too small for it really. Therefore, I ended up building a course that was too short overall for tournements. But once I got more land, it was too much of a pain to redo it all. I wish I could have built a second 9-hole course, and perhaps even picked individual holes out of both courses, to make up an 18 hole championship course.

I also wished I'd have a bit more influence of the actual definition of a hole. While you are in full control of the actual layout of the hole, it is not possible to set whether it's a par 3, 4, or 5. It does so simply by length of the whole. If you build a very tricky hole however, the destination from the tee to the green may be short, but it may require to play the long way around. Therefore, par 3 clearly isn't right. Another issue is that each hole only has one tee. How about women's and champion tees?

Overall, constructing courses and holes is very straightforward. A very worthwhile game!

PS: There are quite a few bugs in the boxed version. Nothing too serious. Mainly weird graphical effects. Make sure to visit the web site for patches.

Warning! SimGolf does not work with IBM Thinkpads

I love this game. However, don't try to play it on an IBM Thinkpad. It will play for 4 minutes and then freeze up. Tech support still hasnt' solved the problem. Just a heads up!

For all the wait, it was worth it.

Sim Golf offers a great mix of money management, creativity, and actual golfing. Try the demo if you need to prove this to yourself, but more than likely you'll be buying this game.

The graphics are not the best in the world, but they top a number of timely imitators. The proof of a game lies not in its graphics, however, but in gameplay... and it is nice. The entire interface is graphical (with pop-up labels so you know what you're pressing) and nicely set up. It only takes a moment or two to get right in to things.

The main problem with the game is actually in the golfing. As a part of the game, you must play the courses you design in order to win prize money and prestige. The gameplay, however, can get dull rather quickly unless you make a variety of holes with any number of ways to play them. In addition, the controls for golfing are nothing more than selecting your swing and pointing to where you want to hit the ball. No swing meters or any other hand-eye coordination deals. This may be a let down to people who like the Links style control, but if you really just want to sit back and design a course or three, maybe this will do you. Still, it lacks flavor.

Overall, you have to try it to believe it. The demo will entertain you for weeks, but the game... probably until next year...?

Golf at its best!

This game is so addicting! It is like a mix between roller coaster tycoon and the sims. There is lots of things you can add to your course to make it unique. You can also hold tournaments at your course and challenge pros (whos names are slightly changed) for a grand prize cash amount. If your looking for a good fun game to spend hours on having fun buy it now!

Fun Except for the Crashes

Building the courses are a lot of fun. Loosing them due to crashes is not. I have yet to play a big-money tournament due to the repeated crashes whenever I try to launch one. Yes, I have downloaded the patch. Yes, I have reinstalled as tech support suggested. No, the problem will not go away. So be aware that there are some definite stability issues with the game that rob it of a lot of the fun. Otherwise this game is fun and surpisingly deep. Making consistently good holes, especially on larger courses, is quite challenging. This would have been at least a 4-star game if EA had taken the time to work out the bugs.

Great Fun, but gets old after a while!

Sim Golf is a great game. The idea behind the game is that you build your own golf course. As your course gets bigger, you can add more amenities to your course, such as a Cart Garage, Hotel or homes for your members to purchase. I had a great time building my first golf course and playing in my first few tournaments.

But after a while it all gets a bit old. Once you have built your first eighteen hole course, nothing really changes on your next course. You have seen it all at taht point. Also, it takes quite a bit of time to play 18 holes on your course and if you want to play hole number 18, to practice, you will have to play the other 17 as well. Also, the manual is not too helpful. There are a few things it does not explain, like what a gold member is.

I had a fun time with this game though, and would not discourage anyone from buying it. I am sure I will dust it off in a moth or so an d play it again.
