Fun to design and then play your course

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 0

I bought this game a few years ago for $20 and it is still one of the best games I've ever bought. The game lets pick a part of the world you want to build a golf course, lets you design it down to the last detail and best of all you get to place the courses that you build. I never get tired of this game. Works fine with vista.

A true review

I'm seeing those who are bashing and those who are praising.

So I'll direct my review at both views.

Pros:

You get to build your own golf course
You can play on your creation
You can hold tournaments
"Mini" RPG (You can improve your shots)

Cons:

Can get boring fast
Catch phrases get old
You can only build 18 holes, so there is a maximum capacity

My recommendation:

It's a Tycoon game, so if you don't like them, then you won't like this one.

I gave this game a 5 star fun rating, because it is quite fun to play. Though if you aren't willing to spend the money, then don't complain about it.

Fun designing and playing

Do yourself a favor and pass on this game. It's neither a good golf game or tycoon game. While you will initially have fun with this game the repetitiveness of it all will quickly bore you, it's just not a good game.

I think SimGolf is a great game. For the people who gave this game a 1 or 2 star rating... you're just jealous. You couldn't build a better game (unless you know games). The championships that you can hold are pretty cool, but too easy, which isn't a dissapointment, but it could get in the way of some buyers. The game has good course options, such as pot bunkers, waste bunkers, and some course options you know already (if you play or watch golf). A few dissapointments... there's not enough land on the sandbox (no money-hassle) mode. You can buy land on normal mode (but only a little), and it's still not enough to give you a good course, and like some reviewers said, there's not enough buildings, which is kinda dissapointing. For golf and sim fans, buy this game! Or borrow it.

I love this game! It is comparable to the Simcity and Sims games in graphics and gameplay. I have spent many hours of entertainment playing Simgolf. You start out with a piece of land and you get to build the ultimate golf course. You have to figure out how to keep your golfers happy and make money off of your course. All the little golfers have their own personalities and say different things as they are playing through your course. You can even personalize the players. I like to turn a few into people I know! There are so many great features to this game! You get to play your own course and build your own skills, then compete against other golfers or in a tournament! The golf course features for building are great! There are many features, landscaping and obstacles to choose from. Great for someone who is creative, likes golf and loves a challenge!

Sid Meier has yet to disappoint me!

I'm a big fan of Sid Meier's previous games - Civilization and Civ II being some of my all-time favorites! I can't even count the number of hours I've spent playing those two games - probably well in to the hundreds. Anyways, I normally would never pick up a golf game, I don't usually play sport-type games, but since it had Sid Meier's name on it I decided to give it a try. I was not disappointed!

It plays like most other Sim/Tycoon games - you start with your basic empty plot of land and build it up to a huge golf course. You build golf holes, hire staff, get different buildings and attractions (driving range, etc). One feature that I really enjoyed was selling plots of land to celebrities - they're a lot of fun to watch! You also can play in a tournament against another golfer, which is pretty easy. I am not skilled at golf games, so I enjoyed it a lot because it was not too complicated.

Another fun feature is to watch the patrons of your course.. because sometimes they'll start on a funny story. If you watch them the entire time they're golfing, they'll keep going on with the story. If they finish (a sign of a good course I guess!) then you get a special prize (some kind of decorative item usually).

I was surprised I enjoyed this game as much as I did. I played it for several days exclusively, but haven't played it since. It doesn't have the longevity that some other games do (namely the Sims for me), but it did keep my attention for many hours over the course of a few days and for the price, I say its worth it!

The Best "Tycoon" Simulation I Have Ever Played!

In short, this was the best simulation of a real life "tycoon" sort of game I have ever played. The game allows people who do not play golf to enjoy the exiting aspect of it, and actually play in-game tournaments and matches agaisnt pro's

At first, the most appealing thing of the game to me as a pre-teen was the "Sim" name in the title. Once I started playing, I couldnt stop. I loved the challenge of pleasing my members, the real life golf things like the hazards, and I enjoyed the actual golf games and skills you had.

In short, I loved this game, and I can see why "Sim" is still a leading producer of excellent simulation games!
