A good game, but way too short!

This game actually scared me a couple times, as I witnessed supernatural phenomena via the various monitoring devices, and I wondered what was going to come find me....This is a great game to play if you've ever wanted to be a paranormal investigator--you get to play with some of the funnest toys since the Ghostbusters movie! The only reason I didn't give it more stars was because it seemed way too short. It's still a great buy, however!

Loved that Game

When I first started the game I was amazed to witness several wierd and unusual hauntings like I saw a bloody knife floating in midair in the kitchen and it then floated up the stairs I thought it was neat how you could set up the equiment and go to different portals in time and trying to help the spirit find out hw it died I hope that I can find more games like it and I think that it is a long interesting game with good grapics and a plot that keeps you hooked for hours. I highly recomend this game to anyone who enjoys the supernatural or just plain likes computer games and mystery.:)

What a surprise!

I picked this game up in the bargain bin at our local software store. What a surprise! The plot was intriguing, the graphics and scenery great, the music was wonderful. I agree the only thing wrong with it was it's length. We were sincerely depressed when it ended! This game is seriously underrated. I am amazed (for it's quality) that it is not more popular. Just enough challenge, and creepy enough to draw you in! You'll love it.

Great game. Wish it was longer.

I found this game in the discount rack at an office supply store. I love these types of games. The graphics and sounds were great, though some was hard to understand. I loved the era shifting and experiencing different 'hauntings.' Only wished it had been longer.

Lightly creepy but not great

I found that the game was interesting, but I wasn't pleased with the ending. I'm a person who likes multiple endings and Amber doesn't have it. Besides that, your co-worker, Roxy, is a very "perky" person who tends to become annoying while watching her on the videotape and at the finale. Edwin's story was heart wrenching, and Margaret and Brice's stories were tragic as well. The only thing I have to complain about was how shallow the stories were. Margaret, for instance, touched lightly on World War II but her story never gets any farther than a few rooms with a radio. The graphics were great, as well as the music and techno babble of the paranormal. I just wanted some multiple endings and a new co-worker, but besides that, it was a good buy, but not great.

A Challenging Game

I love ghost stories, especially those with a mystery. This game did not disappoint me in that area. The graphics are good, the story somewhat perplexing. I would've liked to know more about Brice. Margaret and Edwin's stories were tragic, but Brice's was downright creepy. The two heartstopping (the knife bobbing in the air and the spirit flying up the stairs) episodes involved him. The techno stuff, I found pretty interesting, too. Let's have a sequel, please?

A good value!

There's a ton of first-person adventure games out there thanks to Myst, but there's nothing wrong with that! What matters is if the game is enjoyable to play, and in the case of Amber I'd most definately say yes.

Amber: Journeys Beyond is a first person adventure game with somewhat simple graphics and animation... but at the same time the plot and story hold your interest. The premise is that you are 'checking up as a favor to a friend' on a woman who bought a haunted house so she could study the paranormal. She uses a headset called the Amber device so she can observe the ghosts and actually travel in the spirit realm. When you find her she's in a catatonic state, trapped outside of her body with no way of geting back.

Your job is to help your friend by guiding the other spirits in the house to their final rewards by either helping them realize that they're dead, finding an item that they lost, or helping them finish something they never completed in life. There's three people you need to aid before you can help your friend, and no particular order in which to do it.

Although the game is only on one CD, and the graphics are simplistic Amber is still an impressive game for the value. It has enough ambiance to make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up more than once (imagine walking into the bathroom and seeing words write themselves on the mirror). Amber can scare you, but it does it in a subtle way instead of shoving a bucketload of gore in your face. The gameplay is a bit short, but still much more than you'd normally expect in a single CD game.

If you want an inexpensive yet interesting adventure this is the game for you.

Great Price for cool game

This is a cool sort of supernatural type game with good graphics and interface. Love to play it and the price is unbeatable.

If you are easily scared, don't play this game.

Amber sets a wonderfully scary mood that may just give you a few chills while you play (and, maybe a few after).

The plot is fairly good, but the puzzles are only mildly challenging for an experienced adventure gamer and the game is rather short.

All in all, the game left me satisfied with what I had done, but wishing there was a few hours left of play.

So, if you are a hard core adventure gamer with only limited interest in the paranormal, I would not recommend Amber. But, if you love a good ghost story, get the game, dim the lights, and enjoy the experience.

Great idea, mostly good execution

I'm not into the puzzle games as a rule -- myst and such are nice to look at but I don't have the patience for them. It was close to Halloween when I picked up this game, looking for ambience and mood-setting. I got that in abundance, and really enjoyed the settings and effects. Unfortunately, I found many of the puzzles rather contrived (as they seem to be in most of these games) and didn't fit in with the story. Still, it did pretty much what I needed it to do. No over-the-top slasher/evil beastie/summoned demon bad guys here -- just low-key trapped spirits and bits of paranormal phenomena. It was worth the money.
