I thought the game was dull. It wasn't even scary! The storyline was weak and really didn't have a point to it. The playing screen was also small but the graphics were good. It needs more excitement and adventure. Overall, I was disapointed.

Even though the game was relatively short and easy, it was a good game.

This is a great game, if you like Myst style games, this is a must buy. I liked it a lot. Very well done.
A few good scares.

To modern eyes, this adventure is bound to look somewhat primitive, but just like a good text adventure, its evocative storytelling transcends technology for those who can get beyond the dated graphics and movement model.
It is a point-and-click game, with a little too much point-point-point-point-aha!-click, and it suffers from mild adventure-itis, but there are some downright spooky moments, and great ambient noises which build and maintain an atmosphere. Here we see one of the adventure game's basic flaws (inability to render sentient characters realistically) used cleverly to create a "haunted" feel. We also see one the adventure game's primary strengths (the ability to compel the reader to piece together a story) used to good advantage.
A good one for late at night with all the lights off and the headphones on.

I love adventure/puzzle games and wouldn't mind seeing other games like this. It is 4-year old technology (which shows)and I found this to be a problem. I could only get the game to be visible in about half of my screem (even in 640X480 mode)but other than that had no problems.
I wish the game play was a bit longer as well. But I did find the ghost story line pretty frightening. I only played this game when my husband was in the room.
I gave the game only four stars for the problems I mentioned above and the simplicity of a few of the puzzles. If you haven't played that many games, I would add a half star.
Please do a sequel

I've played a variety of games over the last few years and Amber left me wanting more. There are not too many games in the offering such as Amber but there certainly is a market hungry for more like them. Amber was suspenseful and fairly challenging. Also a "Best Buy" for the money. The plot's concerning the home's different owners over the years was creative.

Amber was a tidy little adventure. Not an epic on the scale of Riven or Myst, but definitely entertaining, and a great bargain. Consistently encountered problems in the 3rd story: alwyas extremely slow running and occasionally the program would freeze. Not the kind of game to keep you thinking about it when away from the computer, but nice graphics and occasionally pretty creepy (even scary). At 10 bucks you can't go wrong if you are looking for some light entertainment.

The game has extremly good detail! The game is easy but the clues are very hard to get. This game could be scary in the night for children.

Amber begins as "you", a friend of a friend, to a paranormal researcher named "Roxy", is asked to do a favor and go to her house/research office to check up on her. That is where your journey begins..... The absolute fun of this game came to me as quite a surprise as I had bought the game on a whim from a bargain shelf at my local dollar store! I wanted to pass some time and figured I'd give it a shot. I wasn't expecting much , but was sure glad that I had decided to load it and play! Although the interface is quite simple in todays computer world, the game is very engaging and the "puzzles"/problem solving are conducive to brain exercise. The exploring of the home and the surrounding areas makes the game very interesting and fun. The plot and storyline are very well written and make the whole experience of Amber Journeys Beyond that much more enjoyable.

The game itself is beautiful: graphics, soundtrack, story. . .but it's too short! I finished the game the same day I bought it. I was also hoping for more creepy stuff; the PeeK device allowed you see the weird stuff happening in other rooms, but nothing ever happened while you were actually in the room, which I found mildly disappointing. It seems as though the game has much unused potential, like the designers could've given the whole things more depth and longevity, but--for whatever reason--they didn't. They have a wonderful base to work from, and the story could have gone in a multitude of directions. I recommend this game for temporary entertainment.
