Fantastic Game

Finally a great "squad" type game. Throw away the tom clancy garbage and get this game.

For the ...who say the AI ..., maybe you should try and produce some more brain cells and actually figure out how to play the game, its really not that hard.

But, there are 2 little AI problems, 1, enemy soldiers have ..., I mean, they just run out at you and don't really care about getting shot, but believe it or not, this does NOT make up most of the contact you will have with enemy soldiers, so its not that big a deal.

Much like hitman 2, you can spend almost the entire game undetected, and you are rewarded for stealthy moves.

The squad control is INCREDIBLE. I mean, it is so easy to switch between people, its simple to position your squad with easy commands. Many times you will stop in a "safe" spot, then personally position each member, slowly creaping up on certain areas, then sticking them there, then you can control individually who can fire or not. If you set them to do nothing, that is what they will do, if you want them to fire, they will do that. So the controls do actually work, and your squad members don't act on there own unless you tell them to... what a concept.

There is no tedious and rediculous mission planning like tom clancy's ..., it takes more than 1 shot to kill you (its a video game, you must have a medium between full out sim and non-frustrating gameplay), this is right in between.

The missions and levels are incredibly detailed, the graphics and textures are amazing, the controls are above average, and the squad control is PERFECT!!

This game is highly replayable, although a bit short. Due to the fact that this is probably one of the better multiplayer games availabe, i would recommend this as a purchase.

what is cartman talking about?!

This game is great for shoot and scoot games, the troops i fought with are not dumb, as a matter of fact i've seen them when needing to reload hump out a grenade, reload and re-engage before the grenade even detonates. As to SOCOM, want to talk about dumb, standing straight up when you are under fire, which they do more often or not, or go loud with a SAW or M60 on a quiet hunt, THAT is SOCOM, and SEALS are better than that! Cartman, engaging a main battle tank with any, and i mean any anti-aircraft missle system is as useless as spitting at it, grenades do not do squat against tanks or APS's, and you could rock the side of a MBT (Main Battle Tank for the non troop type) with a .50 cal M2 machine gun and all you would do is SCRATCH the paint. I have fought quite a few actions, and while you will never get realism from a video game, (including Ghost Recon, sorry) Conflict is pretty darn good, great small unit tactics. Oh, by the way, plenty of people have been shot in the face and not died, not only that, but kept on FIGHTING. Sorry this game didn't meet some peoples movie combat knowledge. Another thing, just about everyone in my unit thought SOCOM sucked. Conflict has so far been my favorite small unit tactics game.

The Best War Game I Have Ever Played!!!!!!!!!!!

I have very few words describing this game. I think this game is really good and hard to accomplish which is why this is a must buy game. This game has a 4 player cooperative game play for those who seek another game similar to Halo. The game needs a little more detail in the graphics but that didn't bother me that much when I was into the game amd that's why a give the game 5 stars instead of 4. You get to drive trucks, tanks and you get to call for air strikes. You get to control 4 player at the same time and this game will surely prepare you for the upcoming Brute Force game coming in January or earlier December.

Very entertaining

This game is great! The reason being that it is completely up to you to develop a strategy for a certain situation. Whether the situation is ambushing a base or destroying scuds, it all depends on how you set each member of your team to do a specific task. It has major replay value just on the strategy aspect alone. I hope the producer: Jack of All Games, develops more games with this type of genre.

Worth a second look.

Alright, I have to admit that the first time I played this it took me about a half an hour before I got bored and put the controller down. After a couple of days passed I decided to try it again. Having more time to get in to the game, I was able to master the controls and start thinking like a soldier. The graphics could be a whole lot better given the capabilities of the Xbox but the game play is rather addictive once you get in to it. I really like the promotions and the awrds that are given out after each mission. In the future I would love to see a sequel to this game that takes advantage of the full graphics capabilities of the Xbox. All in all, a fun game.

Close to 5 stars on this one

I really enjoyed this game...more so in fact than playing single player Ghost Recon. If a few of the minor flaws were fixed and the game length increased I would post 5 stars (as of yet, I haven't posted 5 stars on any XBOX games).

The GOOD:
- The control layout is fine and functional (although the interaction with the characters is sometimes sluggish or cumbersome)
- You have control (but sometimes limited) over 4 units.
- You can replace the existing game soundtrack with one of your own compliation.
- The graphics were fine (nothing spectacular) and the setting and enviroment were good.
- Thankfully they kept political tie-ins out of the game.
- Vehicle additions were a welcome refreshment (although the controls really were horrible)
- Great assortment of weapons and equipment.
- The missions are fun and engaging, and you do feel like a special forces team and not just a 4 man army.
- Some realistic weapon factors such as not being able to immediatly fire cumbersome weapons while crawling/running.

The BAD:
- Sounds are sufficient, but nothing to brag about.
- This game (like so many XBOX titles) suffers from a short game time.
- Aiming, especially with the sniper rifle, is difficult and the site will wander across the screen if not actively held in place.

The UGLY:
- My primary complaint: horrible, horrible AI for your team mates, as well as the enemies. No one uses any stealth, and your fellow team mates will not take cover (or even crouch) when caught out in the open. And they prefer to run and stand in the open whenever possible. They are also not very smart in their choice of weapons to use for a specifc encounter, and will waste your grenades on single targets and then switch to a pistol for multiple targets. They are also very, very loose with their ammunition and will fire an entire magazine at one target.

get ready to blast terrorist!!!

This is a great military game. It works like rainbow six or hidden and dangerous (a squad based WW2 game for the dreamcast) where as you control four soilders, each with their own specailty. You have a regular solider, a heavy gunner, a demolition expert, and a sniper. You can swap weapons any way you like and use some weapons you capture. You can cycle through any of your men effortlessly, have one or all follow you, or send one ahead. One feature I really like is the health packs. Each man has the typical "life bar".When your life bar runs out, your NOT dead, just critically wounded. You can no longer move or fight, you just lay on the ground rolling around. If you can get another man with a health pack to him, he'll be as good as new. If you dont get to him in five minutes, then he dies. This makes the game way more enjoyable. The game stores your stats, you earn higher rank, medals and skill. This is not a stealth game. You will shoot hundreds of rounds and score kills over 100 men (not in all levels, but most) There are 15 levels. 2 of the levels have your team fighting in armored vechicels. Fighting takes place in the desert, the streets of Kuwait, the streets of Bagdad, and a huge Iraqi held castle. This game also has co-operative multi-player. You and up to three of your friends can participate in all of the single player missions. The game is a third-person shooter, but with a click of the button you can play in first person mode. This works extremely well. If your a fan of miltary or shooters, this is a game I highly recommend.

Clunky -- Needs some polish.

Having been in an airborne infantry unit, I've always wanted to be able to play a really good squad/platoon based shooter based on light infantry tactics. When I first came across "Conflict Desert Storm" I thought it just may fit the bill, but unfortunetly it (like so many before it) falls short.

Graphics: I'm not going to nitpick on the graphics, as I believe that game play is more important than graphics. The graphics are relatively simple and lack a large amount of detail, however much of the game play takes place in the desert -- which naturally is pretty bare.

Gameplay: This is where I have the most problems with this game. The interface is a little ackward to get down. During a firefight, you don't want to be sacrificing precious time by having to scroll through your inventory -- especially when you are engaged in a firefight with light Iraqi infantry and T-72 armor makes it's appearance. Auto-aiming makes game play relatively easy, however I find it to be distracting. During game play, it isn't uncommon for your sights to auto-aim on the enemy before you even see they are there. This, I believe, takes away a sense of realism and has the player adopt tactics based upon it. Another thing I find a little unrealistic is how medkits are utilized. At one point in the game, I had each player carrying no less than 50 medkits! Again, tactics can be based off of this. Iraqi armor? No problem, just have one of your guys run up to the tank and drop a anti-tank mine directly in front of it -- destroying the tank and himself. As soon as he is down, have another one of your guys run up to him and administer a medkit, resurrecting him. Continue leap-frogging until all the armor is destroyed.

There are many good ideas that were attempted in this game, however I feel it still falls short of what I'd like to see in the "perfect" squad-based shooter. Until that game finally does arrive on the shelves, I will continue playing "Day of Defeat".

Well rounded tactical shooter

With many X-Box owners awaiting the release of other highly anticipated tactical squad shooters like Brute Force, Ghost Recon, and Raven Shield, this game really gets it done across the board. It doesn't do anything that leaves you breathless (like Halo) but it does satisfy your every need. Intuitive controls, realistic setting, and effective graphics make this a "must have" for those who were anxiously waiting for the aforementioned games. My only complaint was that while in 3rd person mode, your aiming reticle automatically locks on to a target, which is annoying. They should have left it "a la" Max Payne where it is YOUR job to aim all of the time. You can indeed aim on your own by switching to the 1st person mode but the controls are slower and they neglected to add the graphic of a weapon being held, it only shows a target reticle, which kills the sensation of being in the first person. Aside from these complaints, this game is worth the purchase.

Feed your thirst for OIL WAR

At first when I saw this game I thought, wow this is great, this is going to be SO realistic, it's an awesome idea to put out a shooter set in Iraq! I mean, it'll be just like Desert Storm.

Well, it's not exactly like Desert Storm. First off - there are no protests whatsoever featured in the game. It would have been more realistic if I had to politically "buy into" an Iraqi oil war. Second of all, after a few missions, my soldier didn't get either Gulf War Syndrome or even Post-Traumatic syndrome! I'm disappointed, the X-box architecture definitely could have supported a feature like this.

Look at the timing of this release. Look at the state of US foreign policy with Iraq. Then decide if you are being manipulated.
