I don't know what the editor was talking about when he said SSX tricky had better graphics. Amped is about one hundred times more realistic. Also, having snowboarded in real life at both Brighton and Stratton, I can tell you that besides some embellishments to enhance gameplay (towering rails and some jumps) these levels follow very faithfully to their real life counterparts.
The one thing I have noticed is that this game plays MUCH better on a big TV. I've played on our 60 inch rear projection (mitsubishi diamond line) and our 36 inch sony wega and also a smaller 27 inch tv and I must say that the big screen makes a hugh difference. It's strange because the Wega is technically the sharpest picture, although I wasn't using the high definiton pack (like i'm gonna drop 20 extra bones to play on a SMALLER tv) Also, I must give props to X-box for the sound. I plugged it in to the home theatre and it blows PS2 outta the water. Much nicer sounding. Also, I like how microsoft included the fat "monstercable" composites. Sweet move.

Amped is a Valium-fueled take on snowboarding, but the time-limit free missions to the open, looser runs. You're free to do what you want, when you feel like it, and while you're under stress in the middle of a mission, the overall experience is oddly relaxing, especially early in the game when there's no real pressure to beat every goal in order to unlock new levels. Just as in games like Tony Hawk, the only frustration comes in the repeating levels to get a specific medal -- but even then, you can always restart in a flash.
Match that with the open air feel of the levels, the breathtaking coolness of sliding through powder, and the breezy sound effects and in-game chatter, and you've got yourself the gaming equivalent of sitting in the hot tub after a long day on the slopes. Amped is a new way to look at snowboarding, and it's fun and large enough to keep you interested for hours and hours. Sure, there are some problems with the way the game controls, but the overall package is well designed, and most of all, totally charming. Amped manages to be simultaneously epic and down-home at the same time, thanks to the mixture of cool presentation, easy to navigate goal structure, and time-free boarding on giant mountains. You won't sweat while playing a game of Amped... but then again, we're talking about snow, aren't we? Enjoy the powder.
Great Game!!

This is an excellent game to play. It does take a little while to get down the controls and can be frustrating. Once they are learned though, it is an awesome game. The graphics are killer and the replayability is excellent.
The scoring system is pretty cool too. Not only do you need to get a high score(different tricks score points), you have to do them in front of the Media and sponsors to advance in levels. The sponsors like different tricks which forces you to try different things to make you a well rounded player.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves graphics and replayability. It was the best money I have spent on a video game in a long time.
ONE OF THE BEST GAMES EVER

Amped Freestyle snow boarding is easily one of the best games for XBOX. It gets my vote for best game of the year. There are 19 real moutains and several ways down each moutain. Each moutain has several goals. You move up in the rank out of all the other real snowboarders. You can evan make your own snowboarders! If you get sponserd you get new clothing and gear.
this is easily the best game of the year.

Okay , I dont have this game , but I played it . Its awesome . I am a big fan of extreme sports video games , so I amost like amost all of the extreme sports game but this is on my top five list . If you dont like extreme sports video games you schould get this game if you have some extra money to buy an game . Well its your desision . You cant really depend on my review .The levels in this game are hard and they have alot of levels , so even if you have only this game for your xbox it will keep you playing for about 2 mounths ( thats what I think )
I am getting this game . O forgot to tell you about the one think is kind of annoying in this game is that every time you
fall you erase alot of your time and its very hard to land a tailtrick but I still give it five stars . Well this was my opinion of this game.
Only 4 stars because of repetition...

I got to about the 4th course from the end and the sponsor was ridiculous.
The create a player function is good. Although the clothing looks much the same.
Gameplay is tight with good controls. We are talking snowboarding here, though and it's bound to get a little repetitive. I had a lot of fun with this game for a solid month.
This isn't a bad title to begin with, especially for the X-gamer in your family.
You cannot continue to live with out this game.

This game is awesome. It may take a few minutes to learn the controls but after that it is all good. You can board to your own soundtrack. Or it comes with it's own soundtrack with 150 songs. It is awesome multiplayer. You start your own career and then impress the media to get sponsers and then impress the sponsers to get stuff like clothes and gear. It is to cool, You know it's good if they made it a "platinum hits" game. Try this game you will not be disappointed plus they're coming out with an amped 2 so you know the first one had to be good.
One of the best if you are the patient type.

I personally enjoyed this game a lot more than any of the SSX games. The tricking is simpler but deep, the soundtrack rocks (with over 200 songs) although i use the custom soundtrack feature when i play. The graphics blow most other snowboarding games out of the water, and the particle effects are perfectly done. The sound is also very well done. Aside from the good soundtrack (which is a rare thing in a game), there are many sound effects that add to the game: The noise of the wind blowing in your face, the sound of your board carving, and my favorite...anyone you pass on the slopes will have something to say to you, and they rarely repeat themselves. The cameramen and other boarders say things according to what you are doing when you are near them. For example: if you bust a 30,000 point trick near a camera guy he might say "Wow! that was sick, this will be in the mags".....and a snowboarder might say "Hey can you teach me that later?". If you pull of maybe a 15,000 point trick or so, they will say something like "Hey that was good but hit the sweet spot next time" or "Yo you're gettin there, bend your knees more". Then if you fall, coming from a camera guy, it would be something like "Come on man! i can't use that" or from a boarder "Hey wheres all that talent you were sprayin' about?" then of course they will occasionally throw out a blunt "YOU SUCK!"
One of the only downsides to this game is that if you want to get anywhere in the career mode, you will have to spend sometimes hours on the same challenge, especially in the later levels...the game is easy to pick up and play for fun, but EXTREMELY hard to master for the sake of scoring huge tricks for media points and high scores etc. Also i found that the trick scoring system is very random. I do the same trick 2 times on 2 different runs (so its not worth any less) and the first time is might give 35,000, then the second time it would say 9,000. It bugs me when i need to pull off a sick trick at the end of a level to beat a chalenge and i bust a triple corkscrew with an indy to tweaked stalefish and it slaps me with a 7,000.
I really didnt have any problems with the difficulty because i have a lot of patience, but if you get pissed off easily i would suggest renting this game first. However it does make for a very long and in-depth game if that is what you r looking for.

Amped's gameplay is centered around a career system where you advance through the game by impressing the media, beating pro riders and achieving high scores on each mountain. The game has a bit of an RPG element in that you get to "upgrade" your character as the game progresses. Initially you are given a certain number of points to allocate to your characters skills (speed, jumping, spinning, etc). As you progress through the game you earn more points and get to choose how to use them to grow your character.
The career mode is very well done and the challenges are varied enough so that you must be good at all types of riding to progress. In some challenges you'll have to impress a sponsor, while in others you must follow a pro down the mountain and beat them at their own game.
I found that I wanted more than just a career mode. It would be nice if you could just work on a single skill, such as half pipe. I found older games, such as the Nintendo's snowboarding game for the N64, much more enjoyable in this respect.
After a few days of the "learn new tricks -> progress -> learn new tricks" cycle I was pretty bored of the game.
Very Cool, Fun Game

Ok, my wife got the XBOX for me with this game. Now, my best friend has PS2 and I LOVE SSX. However, Amped is far superior and much more difficult than SSX.
First and foremost: Graphics: are outstanding. Everything from looks of characters to jumps, to the look of the snow. Very cool.
Secondly: Sound: The soundtracks are awesome. Now, I am a rock n roll freak but this has everything from Rock to Ska to Hip Hop. I listen to it all.
Third: Fun factor: The quickstart is good for getting the feel of the game. I immediately went for the career and I learn and find something new everyday. I LOVE this game. But be forewarned: you need to land almost perfectly unlike SSX. Definitely pick this game up if you're in the mood for something addicting, fun, and want to jam to.
Happy Boarding!
