Wow! To Deception Island to the Hawaiian islands, Nancy Drew's still got it! From a book to your computer screen in this lifelike mystery adventure, starring nancy Drew and Joe Hardy!

A good ND game

Replayed it twice so far. A good game. Only hard part was analyzing specimens. Guess that's what walkthroughs are for. LOL

Educative but not spell-binding

Nancy Drew, the young girl private detective, features nowadays in books, films, and games. The games, some of the best of their type, have been played recently by three generations of my family. They provide elements of adventure, detection, co-ordination skills, and problem solving. Individual choices and interests probably govern which games a user will prefer. One that has been played by various family members this year is No 15: "The Creature of Kapu Cave". The setting is Hawaii. Go for it, if you wish to spend an imaginative escape amongst lush vegetation. Anyone with an interest in botany will enjoy this one, but those who respond to the magic of story-telling and the lure of mystery will be disappointed.

What Happened?

I own and have played all of the Nancy Drew games prior to this one and loved them all! NOT THIS GAME! What did happen? This game not very good! It lacks puzzles, story, and fun. I was really excited by the interesting storyline presented on the box, but it certainly wasn't a very big part of the game! Enough ranting, here is my review.

Plot- D+ What plot? I never really figured out the plot. There is no creature, so don't get your hopes up there!

Graphics- A++ The fact that the graphics were beautiful was the only reason I gave this game 3 stars. From the waves lapping the beach, to the lush forests, the graphics were incredible! A++++++++++ (This is practically the only good thing I have to say about the game, but it was great!)

Puzzles- C+ There were very few puzzles to actually solve, and you spent most of your time sorting... frass. Frass, in case you don't know, is a fancy way to say insect poop. Lovely. My dream way to spend a few hours! Oh, and you get to study it under a microscope! Aren't you excited already!

Ending- B This game took me about six hours to solve total. Then it ended very abruptly. It was a very, very, very, very short game. There were only four characters in the game, and two of them were involved in the crime. How can you be surprised when they reveal the culprit!

Content A++++ The only other good thing about the game besides the graphics is that (unless sorting frass for hours would somehow be against your principles) it is clean for everyone. No language, no violence.

Overall- C Don't waste your money on this game unless you are a die hard fan of the Nancy Drew games like myself. At least then you can tell yourself that you are being loyal to the games that you used to love. I do still love the old games!

Too Short

We own all of the Nancy Drew CD-Rom games and this game was very short compared to the others. The graphics were good, the characters were good, but the game play was not long at all. Both of my girls finished the game in record time and were also disappointed with the ending itself.

Another lousy game in a long string

Yet another utter disappointment from Her Interactive. This game, while considerably better than Danger by Design, is yet another boring, time-wasting game in a long string of Nancy Drew inspired PC games. What happened to the creativity and intrigue of The Curse of Blackmoor Manor, or The Secret of the Scarlet Hand? Get your old game creators back Her Interactive! Your four most recent game STINK! I've completely lost interest in ND computer games since The Secret of the Old Clock, and just sold my entire collection in our yard sale. The Creature of Kapu Cave had no substance whatsoever. I played, lost interest because nothing was happening, and then solved the case without any of the excitement that I used to have for past games. This is the last one I'm ever going to buy. My interest in Nancy Drew games is officially expired.

kinda short

this game has good graphics, characters and story line. kinda hard puzzles- like this one puzzle I'm not going to spoil for people who are thinking of getting it and haven't played it yet. like the only thing bad about this game (why it's 4 and not 5) is that it's short, yes, short. shortest of all the nancy drew games but no other nancy drew is as short as this one. i would of given this a 4 1/2 but the rating thing won't let me.

Disappointing!

My favorites are still Scarlet Hand and Deception Island- and I also loved most of the others- but these last few in the series have just gone so far downhill that I doubt I will by the newest one. Hard to believe, because I have been a diehard fan of the games...

Fun at first, but a disappointment

This Nancy Drew game started out fun, and it was pretty good until the ending, which I think was the absolute worst ending in the whole series. There was nothing scary or clever about it, and it came much too quickly. Everything up until the ending was pretty fun, though... I was expecting it to be bad because of other reviews about it, but really the only horrible thing was the ending. If you are looking for a Nancy Drew game that shows HerInteractive at their best, I would suggest Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake or Secret of Shadow Ranch. I had fun with this one, but I do have all the other Nancy Drew games.

My grown daughter and I have enjoyed doing all the Nancy Drew games! We're always amazed at the new challenges and clever mysteries. This latest one ended too soon.
