The Secret of the Old Clock is Fun Time Spent

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Its no secret that I'm not a fan of point clicks. They seem to be harder, in general, on my computer than 3-D action games, which is something I'll never understand (unless it has to do with the copy-protection software).

I've played through three or four of the Drew games. "Secret of the Old Clock" was the most fun for me.

I liked the golf game, and the sewing project...I actually was proud when I finished the sewing side quest. I liked driving around in the car. In retrospect its analogous to guiding a magnet through a maze. I had fun none-the-less. I stumbled a little with the CB radio...that got a little convoluted and bizarre, but I did it.

The other games were either too hard or too easy. This one will keep you occupied for a little while...this one will employ an element of fun.

Nancy Drew's First Adventure

Although this doesn't follow the original book, it's a combination of several stories, it holds the 1930's flavor. The design of the scenes are appealing and there are enough puzzles throughout the story. I don't know if this is with all the DVDs, but with this one I had to keep the mouse pointer a half-inch or so in front of the car in order to move it which sometimes proved a bit annoying. In playing it twice, now, I've discovered that you can solve the clues in a different order and still come to the same conclusion. Nice.

Best Game Ever

I had been wanting a Nancy Drew game for a long time, and I finally got this one for Christmas. Some of the puzzles are pretty hard, but I finally figured them out. I'm 14, so take that into consideration. Doing the intelligence test was hard, the answers are so easy!!!! Just think simple, whats obvious. Some of them I didn't do when I was suppossed to, so that would have helped. I don't care what anyone says, this is a great game. I think the plot was pretty good, it could have been played out longer, but it fits. Be sure to take everything into consideration! And take the job at Tubby Telegraphs, despite what some say, it's a fun to see what some people say.

Not as good as some of the others.

I love Nancy Drew games and was looking forward to this one. It was okay but not as good as ones like, Curse of Blackmoor Manor or Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake, which are my favorites so far. Some of the puzzles, like the golf game and sewing were just plain dumb. If I wanted an arcade game I wouldn't being buying an adventure game. I did like the 1930's setting and the characters were okay but if this is your first experience with Nancy Drew games I would try Secret of the Scarlet Hand or one of the others I already mentioned.

Newest game disappointing

Our family has been playing Nancy Drew games for years. This one is a big disappointment. There was very little humor (especially after the funny LuLu of Blackmoor Manor). The games were too easy, no real good puzzels and the games were very derivative of the other stories. Also, driving the car and playing putt-putt made the game too arcade-like. We hope the next one is better. Play Blackmoor Manor if you haven't already and give this one a pass.

ironically unexceptional

I am a fan of the Nancy Drew games in general, but not of this one in particular. My dad bought Secret of the Old Clock for me for my 27th birthday this summer and I discovered that the much-hyped 75th anniversary commemorative game was uninspired, inferior, and seemingly incomplete. I very much liked the 1930s setting -- especially the slang and the soundtrack -- but the storyline was scattered, the puzzles were derivative, and the environment was too restricted. The general outline of the game is great, but ideas are not fully explored and it comes off feeling abridged.

a bit disappointed

Very short!

Not enough places to explore!

Since Nancy solved the puzzle in one day, I think she would have felt it was also to short.

I'm looking forward to the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew game in September.

A great addition! but a little short!

I am a nancy drew game LOVER!! I think that even with the shortness it was very interesting! The 1930's setting makes it feel different then the other games so you don't feel like they are using material over. You get to drive Nancy's Roaster and that is way fun!! Their are about 10 characters (a good amount I think) and they are not easily confused! The end has a weird little twist that is just very funny! You get to play mini golf, which is a challenge, but not one that makes you stop from playing the game. As far a Nancy drew's goes this a mild one. There aren't many scary parts. You have to use your brain in this one but it isn't too hard!
The included hints are a wonderful thing. In this game you have to look around and scan. So if you are looking for constant adventure try a different game.
With they wonderful design of the game you kinda start to feel like you are in teh 1930's yourself!!
It may be a little short but it is one that you can play over again. It worked well and was very intesting...I really enjoyed this game and I think that it is worth the money!!

I gave this game to my 14 year old granddaughter because she has all the other games and all the N.Drew books, old and new. I am afraid that she has become too technologically sophisticated for your games. She finished it in one day! I wish that you had different levels of difficulty for older girls. She loves mysteries and loves to solve them. I still haven't figured it out. I love mysteries too.

Sadly disappointing

I was so disappointed in the new addition to the Nancy Drew games. I solved the whole case in two evenings and never once had to check with the online community to see if I was doing it right. The puzzles were not near as challenging as the other games and I was disappointed that the body of the games involves having to drive around and deliver telegrams! I have come to love these games because of the challenging aspects and the mind-bending puzzles. This one did NOT make my list of favorites.
