Disappointing addition to Nancy Drew series

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 2

For the record, I am a big fan of the Nancy Drew games and hope that Her Interactive continues to release them. That is, of course, assuming that future titles return to the previous standard of quality.

My biggest complaint about The Secret of the Old Clock is that the playing time is so short. It took me less than five hours of interrupted game play to solve the game. Even though I never get anywhere near the promised 20 hours of play (not a suprise, really, since I am an adult and these are games geared toward girls), I often get 10+ hours of play for a new Nancy Drew title. Other points worth mentioning:

Puzzles - very reminiscent of those used in previous Nancy Drew games; little originality

Setting - I enjoyed the 1930s feel and got a big kick out of the various literary and movie characters living in Titusville; however, there were very few opportunities for Nancy to explore her surroundings, which made the "world" of this game seem constricted

Plot - the ending was abrupt and several aspects of the story were left unexplored.

Overall, it showed promise early on but would up as a big disappointment. I give it a 2 out of 5, as compared to other Nancy Drew titles.

boring

This game was so easy I solved it in one day I would recommend the Nancy Drew curse of blackmoore manor that game is way funner. I think it's a waste of money

This was a lot of fun for me and my grandkids to do together but I found I am not a very good driver to the grandkids joy. It was hard for me to miss the mud and potholes. But a lot of fun to solve the puzzles. The grandkids and I have enjoyed all the Nancy Drew games.

Not the best...

First off i just want to say that i've read "The Secret of the Old Clock" and it made this game even more boring because i knew the basic outline.

I see in an above review an adult of the age 35 loved it, which i can understand. But I'm 15 and i found this game OVERLY boring. The puzzles were way too easy, and driving around in the horribly done car part of the game made me want to quit playing. It says youll get a pay if you do some chores for people...i didnt get anything. Although I love herinteractive and and i love all the other nancy drew games i would highly reccomend you dont waste $19.00 on it. I would only reccomend getting it if it was in a value pack of Nancy Drew games.

Fun, But Short

I really like this game, especially that you get to drive [having 4 more years before I can even touch a wheel, this is awesome! :-)]and that it is set in 1930 (awesome!), and that you get to use a 1930 payphone (don't ask me why I like this, I just do. Maybe because you don't have to dial numbers? YAY!),and that you can talk to Nancy's dad (first time ever!) and that in my opinion, Bess and George are really funny in this one (and they have "a nosy busybody", as Bess puts it, sharing their phone line), and that you get to go fishing (though it's not exactly hard. Strange, the fish is in the same place.....EVERY. TIME.) and that there's a minature golf course (which, though sometimes annoying, is actually quite fun overall)! Sooo... what don't I like? For one thing, saying the game is based on the book is exagerating. Hello? The game is nothing like the book. OK, there's a clock. Oh look, another clock. And- *GASP* - ANOTHER clock???? As I recall, the book had ONE CLOCK (that was significant) in it! Also, Nancy stays at Lilac Inn in........the FOURTH book! Plus about every other change you can think of. (Guess what? In the game, the banker, Jim Archer, is about 50 and married, and the president of a bank. In the book, Helen Corning marries Jim Archer. I can tell you this: the two Jim Archers are NOT the same person.) OK. I don't really care if it's not like the book, it would be cool, bubt also pointless- you already know what is going to happen! So, I can see why the game is nothing like the book, but saying it is based on the book is not true! (In case you read the book and you think you know what the game is like.) I didn't really like the ending. It's different, which is good, but...I don't like it. (It's a...chase. No more said in case I spoil the ending.) But even though I probably seem like I hate the game, I actaully like it. It has pretty good graphics, an "upgrade" for the most part, there are quite a few puzzles, none particuarly challenging but more or less interesting, I like all the characteres, though Richard Topham and Jan Willobee talk a LITTLE too much. Plus I wanted to... do something to Jane. She annoys me SOOOO much. But she's funny (not on purpose)at least, her eyebrows go waaaaay up. It's funny. LOL. See for yourself. I actually reccomend this game if you don't mind solveing it quickly (I solved it in 7-8 hours, about 3-4 hours per day). It's good for beginners and people who like fast-movingn games. Overall, it's not at all a bad game. I play it over and over again!

Fun but short

This game was fun but very short. The puzzles were much easier than The Curse of Blackmoor Manor and I completed this game in a couple of days. I did not find this game as challenging as the previous one but I still enjoyed playing it. My favorite challenges were the golf game and the driving parts. It was really neat that you could drive Nancy's roadster around town and during the car chase. I would recommend this game for all ages.

Short lived fun

This game is incredibly fun, despite the fact it only took me three hours to beat. It is definantly one of the shorter Nancy Drew's.
Though it may be short in lenght, it is not short in fun. The '30s flair, adds a nice touch to the mystery. Overall, not one of the best, but not the least.

Great Kids' Computer Game!

This game is a trip into the past to the very first Nancy Drew book. It's really fun because the game has 1930's stufff--ie the cars, etc. The game has all new puzzles & challenging tasks. This is one of the easier Nancy Drew computer games, and it's also not as scary as some of the others. Great for beginners and for players with lots of experience with the Nancy Drew games.

great game.

so, i won't say what all the other reviews have said, but on junior level, one of the nicest things about this game is the CHECKLIST that nancy keeps. whenever i didn't know what to do, there were always 1 or 2 things that i hadn't done on the checklist. and im sure im not the only one that gets like immense pleasure out of checking things OFF the checklist. so, if you get this game, don't forget about the checklist, its a life saver!
