Fun, but short

Although the game was really fun, I was disappointed in how short it was. I think part of it was due to a lot of the puzzles being too easy, but even without that it probably still would have been short.

Calling all history buffs!

If you love history, this is your game. Seriously. If history class is a drag, you'd be best off skipping this one. However, if you think you can stomach what seems like a 10-hour field trip, feel free to go ahead and play it.
I, personally, am not a history fan. It bores me to tears. If it were not for my determination to play all the ND games, I would've stopped playing. I mean, a mystery in a museum about Mayan culture is bound to be boring for someone like myself.
Another downside to this game was that there's actually no real MYSTERY for the first hour or so, making the first hour even more of a drag than the rest of the game was. I still remember my boss, Joanna, bursting into the room saying, "Beech Hill (the museum) has been hit! Sit tight, Nancy, the police are on their way!" And my sis and I are jumping around going, "YES! We finally have a mystery to solve!"
The puzzles were pretty easy, but there were a LOT of them! Why on earth I had to make my way past three levels of quizzes just to get to a place I've already seen, I'll never know. The only challenging one, I found, was those idiotic audio narrations, which were a bit TOO hard, seeing as everyone in my family confirmed that they were sevens when they were really ones.
They scaryness of this game was limited. Very limited. The only time I even got anything close to scared (I was only 12 when I played the game) was:
1. When one of the NPC's fell down a long flight of stairs and was knocked unconcious, resulting in amnesia and a very LONG hospital stay. I was very attached to this character, and, being the sap that I was, starting crying when I heard him falling down the temple steps and then seeing him on the ground.

2. The ending. I think HI was trying to outshine themselves. Either that, or they were trying to make up for the boring-ness of the rest of the game. If you can't stomach being trapped in an airless space with a half-rotted corpse, you'd best have a partner with you to finish the game for you. That's what I did!

Other than that, there is really nothing else of importance about this game I probably should mention other than the fact that it was long, boring, took me 3 years to finish because I kept stopping and starting, and felt like a field trip. Most of the NPC's were very annoying (I kept wanting to smack this one 'pillowhead'... if you've played the game, you'll know who I'm talking about! If he offered me a stale cookie one more time...) Anyway, if you love history, you'll love this game. If you don't... well... it's up to you to decide if you want to put yourself through hours of pointless puzzles.

The Her Interactive Team does it again!

I posted a review on the "The Secret of Shadow Ranch" that gives my overall opinion of these games - refer to that for a background on the games in general. All of the positive things said there apply here as well.

As I believe another reveiwer said, there is a pretty great ending scene to this story. The final environment is also very well done - I don't want to give anything away, so I will just have to tell you to see for yourself.

I am from the Northwest, so the different types of thinking represented by Holt, Jenna, Katie, and Andy were strangely (and humorously) familiar. Among other things, you can decide who you agree with regarding the fate of the orphaned Orca.

If you are from the Northwest (or any other coastal region) and like to walk on the beach, you will also get a kick out of all the little familiar details, like the little holes in the sand ("hmmm...") and crabs hiding under things. Very realistic and very well done.

It's a great game and a great series - and you can't find a better deal than those prices.

not as challenging

I've played all of the Nancy Drew games and found this one to be too easy. My daughter found it a little boring (except for the ending). I would get this as a starter game. If you are a veteran of these games I 'd suggest that you wait until it's on sale.

I have played all of the Nancy Drew games, and ecxept for Secrets Can Kill, I enjoyed all of them. When I bought The Haunted Carousel I thought it was going to be as good as the best of them. I was very dissapointed. It was very short, very easy and you didn't have to snoop at all. The puzzles were very easy and the new computer feature helps you out too much. In conclusion I felt like this game was a waste of money. I still feel like the best game was Treasure in a Royal Tower.

I can't believe how stupid I am. I've been working on this game for about 3 months and can't figure it out. I'm even reading the book for clues and getting nowhere fast.I've tried everything my mind could possibly think of. I'm 13 years old. I feel like I should be able to figure this out but all I've been doing is meandering the halls of the castle for endless hours sometimes up until midnight. I've read everyone else's review and most everyone say it took them a day or 12 hours or something like that. I don't know what to do.It's really stressing me out here. sometimes I have dreams about this game. It's scarey!Did you know in the book Prfessor Hotchkiss is a boy and in the game professor is a girl???I find that almost hilarious. If it wasn't for my stupidity the game is quite interesting. Although the music is scarey. What's with the banging sounds? How do you get outside? Why haven't I ran into anybody? It seems like the castle is deserted.

This game was just plain bad. A filler between the good games. You did not get to move around the park and explore, there were no good puzzles, we finished this game in a couple of hours. The final insult was the abrupt and non-sense ending. Just close your eyes and pretend it never happened. You could start with one of the earlier games or jump over this thing and move on to Danger on Deception Island.

not a good game

i thought that this game was awful.. it was wicked boring and there weren't many places to go and people to see. Mainly you were stuck on the lake and you had a boat to go to like two other places. To me having a lot of places to go is fun and this was not. Me and my friend did it in about 4 hours.. a waste of money and a waste of time, since it was suppose to be at least 21 hours of fun. A much better one i reccomend is Message in a Haunted Mansion. One other awful ones are danger on deception island (which i didn't even finish it was so bad). The others werent as bad though

The best one I've solved! I was sad when it ended. And I suddenly realised how much I loved carousel horses! I'm eager to do another!
