The Nintendo Wii has definitely been one of the hottest toys this holiday season. Although the game system has been hot, many of the titles for the system, have also been issued for Nintendo's other console, the Gamecube. That has been the case with Legend Of Zelda: Twiglight Princess, Happy Feet, and recently, Need For Speed as well. Since its made its debut years ago, Need For Speed has definitely been recognized as one of the most popular racing franchises ever. The games have all done mostly well for the PS2, Xbox 360, and the home computers as well. Now that it has made its debut on the Wii, can it deliver as well?

Need For Speed Carbon for the Nintendo Wii, challenges drivers to face off in over 70 different races ranging from sprints, circuits, and the new canyon duels, where you go head to head against the vulgar street racer Darius, and his crew of speed demons. In the game, you and your crew have to battle your way to the top, as well as the thrills of the cahse against the police. The game also features automobiles ranging from classic muscle cars like the Dodge Charger, ans classic speed racers like the Chevrolet Corvette, the infamous Dodge Viper, and the Mclaren racers too. The game also features a challenge mode, where you are given the chance to prove you are more than just a winner in career mode. The graphics really handle well for the Wii and give out a better sense of gameplay. Although the graphics and the sound handle well, there are a few disadvantages to the game. The main disadvantage is the control. It takes awhile to get used to, considering the motion movement in the Wii controller, as you use it as if it is a steering wheel. The other disadvantage is the pursuits against the police in the career mode. There really isn't as much challenge against them as there was with Need For Speed Most Wanted from the Gamecube, which leaves a little dissapointment.

Despite a couple of flops, Need For Speed Carbon is a true delight for anybody who owns, or is planning to buy the Nintendo Wii. I love this game a lot, and if you are a Wii gamer, than you'll truly love the thrills of the chase here. This is a great introduction game for the system, and I loved racing with it, and you will too. Otherwise, you might be left in the dust.

The need for speed franchise seems to be a hit or miss with the NFS titles for PS2 were just awesome. Most wanted for DS wasn't so great and it seems that Carbon was a really good step for the WII graphic wise and concept wise, but it just feels like not enough effort was put into refining the controls. The controller is great to use in the situation of driving, (Try Excite Truck, you'll see what I mean!) so obviously the prospect of moving the controller in the steering wheel motion works out great. But I just could not get past the feeling of unresponsiveness from the controls. The storyline works really well and graphically, the game looks great. Maybe a little more technological refinement from EA would have sent this title to a higher level. If you're looking for a good driving game that is easier to play and exhibits more of a fun factor, I would recommend Excite Truck over NFS: Carbon.

You'll be hooked!

If you want a great racing game that makes great use of the "Wiimote", check "Carbon" out. It has a great story mode and the cars are fantastic. This is probably the best car line the NFS series has ever had. The graphics are really the only complaint I can possibly have but even those were surprisingly well done. I just can't stop playing this game, it's really on another level. I recommend it with full confidence that you'll have a great time. It's great for one on one gameplay.

Good but Not Great

I tried to like this game - I really enjoy racing games and I thought it would be fun with the remote to control the steering. It was somewhat fun at first but the story line and the controls eventually became tiring. A lot of things seem tacked on at the last minute. Even the manual was only a couple pages long and mostly black and white. I basically spent a lot of time trying to out run or ram into police cars. To me it's not worth the money that is currently being charged for it.

Poor controls make this game a bust

I love the NFS franchise and enjoyed NFS Underground on the PC immensely. The Wii version of NFS Carbon is a beautiful game, but sorely lacking when it comes to controls. The wiimote just doesn't cut it. Having previously had a steering wheel with accelerator which have now beeen replaced by the wiimote - this game is just a sad imitation.

Controls need refinement, but still fun

I haven't played any other racing games on the Wii, so I was excited when my wife bought NFS: Carbon for me for Christmas. In the first few hours of gameplay, I struggled to get the controls down. The default controls (using just the remote) seemed unresponsive. I found that the alternate methods were just as unresponsive.

I wish there were an option to try steering with the nunchuk's joystick, rather than having to tilt anything. The joystick is only used in the non-driving interface, usually to control the camera when viewing your car.

As for the rest of the game, I find it pretty entertaining and challenging. The last NFS games I played were Underground 1 and 2. The free roam of NFSU2 was a great addition to the franchise, but the ability to jump straight to a race from the map in Carbon is even better. Also, the reward cards add a different element to the game, allowing you to earn rewards for various gameplay events or actions.

Overall, it is a pretty good game.

Best Wii Game ever!

I just got the wii for christmas, and right away i bought this thinking
it would be fun.... I WAS RIGHT!! It is the best Wii game i have ever played! People who are saying it has poor control either onlyplayed the first scene, or chose a bad car. I suggest the mazda if you get the game. Best game ever!

Great idea... HORRIBLE controls!

This game has really cool graphics and lots of custom cars. The controls work most of the time, but it tends to mess up on sharp turns. Sometimes it would work and sometimes it would not. Even on cars rated with great control the stearing would randomly go out causing me to crash head on into a wall.

This game is fun, but at most I would rent it because it just makes you mad when you would have won a race but lost because your stearing went out. I would wait a little bit until the game developers actually make a full racing game designed for the Wii. Need for Speeed Carbon was obviously a game designed for another system thown out to be a launch title to make a quick buck for Electronic Arts. The Wii controls are obviously tacked on and dont work as well as they could have had EA spent more time developing them.

So to sum up all of this, you will more than likely be really disapointed if you buy this due to the buggy controls. Wait another few months if you really do want to buy it and it will probably be in the bargain bin at walmart for $19.99.

Damn Fun!

Having not played any car/driving games in quite a while, I thought I'd give NFS:C a spin. I was pleasantly surprised! The game is really fun. It's fast paced, has good action and can even be a little tense. Yeah, the controls feel awkward at first but after playing for a while you get a good feel for how to drive the cars. I'm driving much much better now than when I first started playing. I suggest starting with a "tuner" car like the Mazda RX-8, because the handling is much better and thus easier to drive.

Great game controls arent hard to learn people

ok everyone has been saying the controls are hard and wont respond to some. Ok if you stop turning the remote like a mad man and just take a second to acually see how easy it is to turn then ur set. Plus the only some what annoying fact about the game are the muscle cars because they have poor handling so dont pick them easy as that. Helpful hint to some use your Speedbreaker people it works wonders on the turns and saving alot of frustration in the end. Anyways great game, get it, have fun
