Lame Game

I love mini-games. I love casual games. I love multi-player games. I love Mario games. I hate Mario Party 8.
The game was so lame I tried to take it back to the store for a refund. The controls are sluggish and there is hardly anything to the game. Instead of getting this, get Super Monkeyball (with it's large collection of mini-games, some good and many lame), or Big Brain Academy (all good), or something else, anything else.
This game moves so slow, that my son wanted me to make the game start, while we were towards the end of playing a game.

Mario Party again...

Wow! The 8th Mario Party is already out. I just got a wii a couple of days ago and this is my first game I bought besides Wii Sports. I have played Wii a lot before buying it so I do have some experiance. I only have the fourth and fifth though.

Gameplay: Fun, but even 15 turns is very, very long and gets boring
Mini Games: Too easy, but fun with the wii remote
Overall: Good, this game could get boring soon but it is fun for now. There are a lot of unlockables which makes the game fun. Where are Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Super smash bros. brawl? The wii will rise up in front of all other systems even more when those games come out.

This Game Could Be Better.......

First off, I preordered this game from Amazon a month and a half early and it was delayed a few days.

I've really only played the game by myself but I can tell this game isn't as much fun as other "party" games for the Wii. The game play is slow and there is TOO MUCH time between games. Maybe I'm used to the fast paced action of Wario Wares, but I don't think so.

There's no way to fast forward or skip certain things. One part of the game has you riding a dolphin for a shortcut. The ride takes almost 10 seconds to complete and there's no way to bypass it! You have to watch it! Then another time you get picked up in a car by a turtle for a shortcut and you're forced to watch the turtle drive around town to the shortcut! Why can't we BYPASS this stuff!?

What's with not having any voices in the game? I don't really feel like reading all that the MC guy has to say, why can't he simply SAY it. Then the few voices that ARE in the game are hard to dechiper. If Mario wins a game then I could swear he says "I'm a weiner!" lol

I'm also not happy about the amount of times you need to hold the Wiimote as a standard controller to use the analog control pad. Not cool at all.

I don't know if I'd spend the money on this game to get it new. Wait a few weeks for the current people to get sick of the game and then buy it used.

so far, not so good

I have played this game three times trying to get a good feel for it. So far, not so good! It is probably more of a kids game or a parent with kids game, but does not seem like a good party game for adults. I think, to be fair, the hype had me expecting more than what the game actually offers. Unless it is for kids, I would wait and get a used copy for less or at least rent it to see if it is the type of game you would enjoy for the money.

Quite a bit of fun as a holdover kids game for Wii

We recently finally got our hands on a Wii, and have had a month of greatly enjoying playing the Wii Sports and Wii Play. We probably could have just gone on playing those two games longer, but I thought it might be fun to have at least one other game for the family to play! Mario Party 8 fit the bill. It's not a spectacular game, but it's fun. If you've played other Mario Party games, you will not find this much different, for better or worse. Of course, there are games that use the special features of the Wii remote, but somehow they all sort of feel like you have played them before anyway! I am not a big graphics person, but to me, the graphics looked good---sharper than Game Cube ones. The unlockable mini games are only okay. My favorite is the scooter race, just because you get to race against pretty much all the Nintendo Mario type characters that exist! The boards are fairly well done. My sons love the train one, and like the Boo one also.

Overall, worth the money just because it gives you so much more to do with the Wii, but I do think it could have been more than it is. With the Wii capabilities, this could have been a really wonderful game. However, it's still a good, solid game.

Honest Review from a serious Mario Party Fan!

Mario Party eight overall is a good game, with some painfully obvious flaws. I'm sure you've heard enough about the sickening plaid bars that pop when you play anything in the game. Another flaw is that alot of the games are not taking very strong advantages of the wiimote. Also some of the minigames are really boring and only about half of them have good replay value :-(! Now for the good points! Story mode is actually quite fun, the minigames that are good, are actually really fun. Graphics hold up well, and are nice compared to the gamecube versions. Of course it can't beat 7, beacuse of it's lack of new innovaitive modes.

This is a nice game, but Nintendo cut far too many corners and added nothing new. You are not likely to get any minigames on the boards, which themselves are short and uninspired. The graphics are, if anything, a step back from the last Mario Party, and the minigames themselves are derivative and sometimes just plain boring.

That being said, this isn't a BAD game, especially if you have small kids. I just think they, and you, would enjoy Mario Party 7 just as mucha nd pay about half the price.

Mario Party 8

Never having played the previous 7 Mario Parties nor having known a single thing about the game itself other than its a 4 player game with mini- challenges of skill, I was expecting something a little more entertaining. Its perfect for kids age 4-9 maybe but as far as adults, not so much. The graphics are overly colourful and showy. The gameplay is painfully boring. The video that Nintendo is showing of people still on thier couch and watching the screen... pretty much sums up the game. You sit and wait for the graphics to animate on and off then after a few minutes you can stand up and actually do something. Then back to sitting. Its basically a board game with very few and far between moments of action.

Good game could be better, however great mini games

Cons: The ever repetitive mini games that we are all so tired of; why can't they make one that plays through out the game?

There are only six gameboards and they get repetitive and tiring. Why can't they make them lengthy game boards? I mean it is only 6 of them. NOTE: The game is played via gameboards, ala candyland style. When you hit a specific spot, you might get minigames. But i warn you these boards get really repetitive.

You can not skip many repetitive scenes which really slow down the gameplay.

PROS:

If you love Mario Brothers, then you have to get this one

These minigames are actually fun; unlike Wario Smooth Moves

4 player means even more fun

Mario Party 8 - About What I Expected

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 1

Pros: The game makes creative and interesting use of the Wii remotes motion sensing capabilities. The mini games are fun and plentiful, and the new characters are good additions to the series. The effects of some of the candy powerups are good for a chuckle the first time you see them (vampire, bitsize). The Tycoon Town board is a great Monopoly style twist to Mario Party.

Cons: Obviously the bars on a 16:9 TV (Although I don't think it's as big a deal as some are making it out to be). The overall pace of the game seems to have been slowed down from previous installments. Also, there are no online features to utilize the Wii's internet capabilities. I realize that Nintendo said launch titles would not have internet play, but this is a title based on multiplay released 6 months after the console launch.

Overall the game is fun, and is a solid addition to the Wii library. Hopefully Nintendo doesn't go too crazy with additional Mario Party titles, but MP 12 on the Wii wouldn't surprise me.
