Poor Game

It is funny. I read the reviews and totally disagreed with them. I found this game to be silly. The flying trucks and loud music were annoying. Luckily, we rented the game to discover this instead of paying for it. Essentially, you can crash and destroy your vehicle many times during the race and still win. It does take practice but it is so unrealistic that it bears no resemblance to actual truck driving. Is this where video games are going?

Rent before purchase

For parents looking for games for their kids, this one is better to rent before purchasing. I noticed others have posted good ratings for this game. My teenagers and all their friends did not like this game and they do not play it.

No all it's cracked up to be in the other reviews

The game is mildy amusing in single player mode but the novelty really wears off after a few hours. The gameplay is just not engaging enough to keep you coming back for more. Where this game horribly falls down is in mutiplayer or "versus" mode. First, you are locked in side by side mode and the view feels very cramped from right to left. There should have been an option to change to a stacked view. It's like trying to drive without peripheral vision. It wasn't like I was trying this on a TV that was too small either (61 inches). Second, there are no other cars out there competing except for you and the person you are racing against. With the huge jumps and turboing off into the woods, that pretty much means you'll see your opponent about 2 or 3 times a race. It feels like a time trial on a screen that's cut in half. To sum it up, the game is fun for a day and multiplayer is worthless. Without replay value and the ability to enjoy the game with friends, I feel my money certainly could have been invested better. Caveat emptor.

Mediocre and overratted!

Game is ridiculously overrated. I thought it would be a lot of fun to play but it's just repititous point A to B type of arcade "racing" like in a game from 20 years ago; no online play option at all (In 2007? With a console that has internet access built in? Hello?). Graphics are just mediocre. No realistic physics model, poor choice and of little differentiation between vehicles, only a small handful of actual courses so the graphics are ho-hum. This is a $20 game, at best.

Decent use of the Wii controller, but gets old fast

OK I admit I'm not a big fan of racing games. I liked Burnout 2 on the Xbox, but that was mostly because of its crash mode. How much fun can you have driving in circles over and over again? Yeah the courses change and there is the competition aspect, but really in the end you are just sitting there holding down the accelerator button and tilting the controller. There's no real strategy, suspense, or thinking. Oh and the physics are weak. Explain to me how a car can turn in mid air with no wheels touching the ground? This may be fun for parties for about 5 minutes at most.

Not a racing game

I got Excite Truck for Christmas, and I was pretty glad. I hadn't asked for it, but I like racing games, generally. Reading the box, it looked pretty fun, and so I began the game. After figuring out the name entry process (you need to hold the controller sideways) I began a forced tutorial. It was a bit of a pain, but I finally unlocked the races. So I jumped to them right away, figuring the rest of the tutorial wouldn't be needed.

But Excite Truck, as it turns out, is not a racing game. It can help to finish first, but what you really need to do is manage to get a certain amount of "stars", acquired by such amazing feats as crashing, running into trees, and turning. I was pretty confused; the box says nothing about this and calls it a racing game. I don't like the game's alternative. Driving games are supposed about reaching point A a certain number of times: it keeps your concentration going. Having to do tricks makes you constantly worry if you are going you have "enough" to get a good rating on the race. This is not a good thing.

So where's the "Excite"? In the controls, sadly. The Wii remote is used very poorly in Excite Truck. You hold it horizontally, and move it like a steering wheel. Unfortunately, the kind of steering wheels the developers had in mind seem to be very erratic. Turning is a game of chance: you will either not move at all, or you will make WAY too sharp a turn. Perhaps the only saving grace of this game are the graphics: they are beautiful, and everything is wonderfully textured. But if you're looking for a fun game, this is not the game you are looking for. Stay away!

I've played better "racing" games

The control scheme is great, but the game gets old. Once you have earned all the trucks, there's really nothing to hold your interest. This is not a game that I wanted to keep coming back to.
Maybe they'll port Burnout to the Wii - that would be fun!

Beware this game

If you got a Wii for Christmas with only the included Wii sports or with the Wii Play package, Excite Truck could create household issues. The bottom line is that this game is lots of fun. In fact, it's a whole lot more fun than the basic Wii games, which will mean that your kids won't really find the basic Wii games to be all that interesting anymore. They'll just want to race. That may be just fine with you. But if you got the Wii because you wanted a video game that was more active and less like a traditional arcade game, this may defeat the purpose.

On the other hand, the game is a blast . . . .

I received the product quickly, in good order and for a good price. However, I cannot adequately give a review of the fun or overall experience as my kids have only played it once so far. They are currently enjoying the sports package that came with the Wii...

People who enjoy real racing go somewhere else....

This is arcade fun at it's best. Excite Truck is just plain fun. It takes a while to get used to using the Wiimote as a steering wheel. After you have played this game for a few minutes you get used to the non stop fun. This game is pure arcade based aderaline pumping fun. There is no realism here and that was never the intent. This is a perfect example of what Nintendo is trying to accomplish with the Wii. Simple fun...It's hard to believe that something so simple has eluded game designers for so long. Now with the full interaction you can be steering your monster truck over jumps going crazy distances. The game has this feature where if you hit a bonus the terrain changes before your eyes. Bumps turn quickly into hills. It's an amazing site and adds more fun to each level...Just because I have commented on the fun factor doesn't make this game simple to beat. The non stop speed and the terrain will have you facing quite the challenge. If you are in the market for new games for your Wii look no further than Excite Truck.
