I have completed this game, and I felt I had to give it five stars because of the storyline. This is the only game I have ever played that I thought of almost as a book in that I was always anxious to see what would happen next. It is the only console game that has kept me interested enough to the very end to enable me to finish it--with all others on any system I have gotten bored partway through.
The game has some interesting but perhaps little-noticed features: The particular armor, weapons, and clothes you equip your characters in, for instance, show up not only as they walk around, but also in the full-movie sequences!
The main negative about this game is that it starts out very slowly. In fact, when I first started the game I really hated it and wouldn't have kept playing had I had another game to pop in. However, once the backstory and tutorial are covered and you gain your first extra character, gameplay and plot pick up enormously. It's well worth the wait. I did feel that the characters could have been more attractive (they are very ashen-looking), but it didn't affect my enjoyment of the plot.
There is a lot of entertainment value here; I clocked over 70 gaming hours (probably over 100 real life)playing the game and still did not complete every quest, though I believe I missed very few. The game can be completed much faster, though, if you choose not to do the side quests.
I enjoyed this game.
Summoner summons the fun within you.

This game will rock! The team Vilition is making great strides with their first crack at an RPG.Hey,they solved the anti-alising problem with thr Ps2,and the games id in Hi-Res!Its unique because you can summon(or call out)monsters to help you fight. You can control 5 people at once(and monsters)! The battles are all done real time and you can chain attacks to make combos(think of Vagrant Story with this feature).Very nice!
RPG Innovation...

This game is indepth and graphically amazing. The fight scenes are Zelda like, while experience growth points can be applied according to the player's wishes, rather than assigned level-ups in Final Fantasy type games. An awesome option in this game is a quest journal. It keeps track of all the quests your player is sent apon. Encounters are fun also. You run around in a mini-map covered with 20 or so enemies. You can fight, or leave...if you can find a yellow line.
Any negatives...a lot of loading, but it is worth it. If you can find a memory card, this game is a blast.
This game is da bomb.

I love this game. The very beginning was a little slow, and the fighting system takes some getting used to, but the story is absolutely amazing. Just when you think you are going to beat the game, think again. The plot turns keep the game very interesting. I haven't been "addicted" to a game for awhile, but Summoner changed that for me.
If you dont love RPGs, this may not be the game for you, however. But if you love RPGs, pick this game up.
Cool Game

Although the game isn't Final Fantasy 7, it is incredibly impressive. I think that this is the best American made role-play game ever. It has great original music, interesting plot, thousands of hidden quests, and a unique battle system. It is similar to PC rpgs, and in fact is one, but the console version still impressed many of my die-hard console rpg friends. This game launched with the system and is still the best rpg for PS2. If you haven't played this game and you have a PS2, you're obviously not an rpg fan.
I loved this game

This was the first game I've played in years. My friend lent me her copy when I finally bought a computer.
After a few hours I was completely hooked and played it non-stop for days. Then I went back and played it again to complete all the subquests. Yes, the combat could be a bit boring, perhaps because I had it on auto-chaining. And Joseph did look somewhat cadaverous. But the graphics were amazing, the load times were no problem at all, and I loved the story.
The water around the Temple of Urath, the music in Iona near the end, and the falling snow were particularly beautiful. The Caverns of Wolong are incredible and have the most haunting music, but you have to spend a lot of time in there before you stop getting lost. The first few acts in Lenele have a powerful sense of impending danger.
I read some of these reviews and bought games like Baldur's Gate that everyone is raving about. I just don't get it. The graphics were gloomy and flat, the characters whine when you move them, and they all get stuck in rooms and can't move around each other. I spent so much time reorganizing my characters so that they could all get up various staircases that I gave up. How can you say this game is better than Summoner?

Alright we aren't looking at a MGS2 here, maybe not even a Dark Cloud. But this game is a must own for PS2 people that are getting bored of the same old games. It is a very challenging game, with a [subpar] plot, but awesome gameplay. Definately at least worth a rental from Blockbuster. This is an awesome game and shows some more capabilities of PS2.
I definately recommend this to people like me who beat Bouncer like 20 times before getting a new game, now actually a game that is long enough to enjoy. Very fun, very challenging, very different. Don't count on Final Fantasy gameplay, look for different buttons, different plots, different characters. But I love the complexity of the cities and all the quests you can embark on, reminds me of a Baldurs Gate/Icewind Dale like game (which I both beat and loved). So pick it up, try it out. You'll definately enjoy it.
Where's the next creature!?

At first I played this game for a while and I only had the ability to summon one creature. I stopped playing it for a while but then gave it another shot and now I'm really into it! You don't know what the next ring will bring you or how many creatures it will bring. You ask me? It's an amazingly adictive RPG game; and that is hard to find.
This game is great

The game has everything. THe movies are exellent, the eniemes are challenging, the story line is decent is okay and the game is so addictive I could play for hours. It isnt gory and is a safe and fun investment. Warning though when you get this you'll play for hour. What it declines in graphics it makes up in everything else.
