This game is amazing! It's great on a big screen with surround sound and the lights off with a few people (make sure you exclude idiots) and it will be amazing fun! The idiot will make you think the game will suck and destory the mood of the horror he will make fun of it because he does not understand! So play it and have fun

Silent Hill 2 for the Sony Playstation 2 is more creepy and scary than one would call it "pure enjoyment". Where this has the goods you'd expect as a Silent Hill title (the creepy, scary atmosphere), it also has the bad stuff you saw from the first game (back-and-forth searching and backtracking).
Graphically, the game is top-notch. The sound and ambience completely accompanies the horrorfied backgrounds. The thick fog and the pocket-sized flashlight for your walks in the dark are back. The enemies are very original and creepy. Where most are meerly there to scare you rather then make you fight them, there can be a very violent battle or two if you do choose to tangle. Puzzles are here and there, but nothing too complicated (and the levels of puzzle difficulty can be adjusted).
Some problems one can have with this game is its backtracking and mindless wandering. You end up going back-and-forth in Silent Hill far too often to make this a perfectly enjoyable title. The voice-overs could be better, but they aren't all that bad and are a much improvement over the first Silent Hill. Also, the camera angles tend to not be in your favor at times. Too often, enemies are in a blind spot and cannot be seen until it's too late.
Will this game scare you? You bet it will. Because of this, it's MATURE THEMES, and because it OFFERS NOTHING TO CHILDREN, it's strickly an ADULT game. The excellent storyline will suck you right into this game and the creepy atmosphere will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Silent Hill 2 is a visually stunning survival horror game for PS2. The game displays some of the best graphics I have ever witnessed in a video game, nearly mesmerizing me during the cut scenes. The story told through the game is so good that we actually feel sympathy for the characters. We meet the various unstable characters throughout James Sunderland's quest through Silent Hill, and are taken away by their problems and the sadness they feel. The only problem I really had with the game was the monsters in it. They're nothing special and it looks as if the developers decided to not worry about this too much, and just throw any old blob out there at James. The monsters are disappionting, but the rest of the game is not. The surroundings, such as the fog, the cars, and the town itself are stunning, as are the cut scenes, like I said before. Silent Hill 2 is also probably the scariest game I've ever played, throwing the player into a black hole that only a small hand sized flashlight can guide you through. Truly a creepy experience, Silent Hill 2 is a well made game, with a touching story, and superb graphics.
This game is amazing!!

Silent Hill 2 is definatley one of my favourite games on the ps2. The graphics are amazing - the whole town looks real. The only problem was the characters mouths didnt fit with what they were saying, but thats only a small problem in the game. The game is really puzzles, and the plot can be quite complicated. It took me a while to understand it.
I loved the disturbing atomosphere though. This game disturbed me a lot. The monsters look great, and make me jump a lot, but its the whole place, the atmosphere and sound that really scared me. The use of sound plays an important part in silent hill 2. The radio when a monster is approaching adds a great effect. And each place has its own sort of 'sound' which is great (you'll probably see what i mean when you play the game). Silent Hill 2 also has this really cool music that rounds the whole game off.
The game is quite short, but i'd say its definatley worth buying, its the most terrifying thing ive ever played or watched and its just amazing.
Silent Hill 2... welcome to Hell.

Murder, vengeance, lust, and betrayal. These are only a few of the dark and disturbing subjects explored in Silent Hill 2. When you talk about scary video games, you can't help but mention the Residet Evil series. Resident Evil basically jump started the survival-horror genre of games with gruesome scenes of blood, gore, and "pop-up-say-boo" scares. Silent Hill 1 turned style and substance into a experiance through the darkness of almost every persons nightmare. Silent Hill 2 only improves what was great in the first game. With a more focused; less confusing plot and much better character development due to excellent voice acting and Hollywood quality computer work, the story really comes to life to mess with your brain and tug on your heart. Secrets, lies, and half-truths are the norm in this story. Just when you think you know were it's headed, it spins in a new direction that's even more scary and intense than the direction before it. What is really great about this game is that it's scary on a psychological level. The whole time, you feel as though your stomach is eating itself due to the tension, nerves, and fear of what may be waiting in the darkness for you.

I LIKED THE FIRST SILENT HILL A LOT. COULDNT WAIT TO GET THE SEQUEL. THIS GAME IS GENUIALLY SCARY, ESPECIALLY THE SOUND EFFECTS, DONT PLAY ALONE AT NIGHT IN THE DARK LIKE I DID! THE ONLY NEGATIVE ASPECT I FOUND, WAS THE CONSTANT RUNNING AROUND, IT WAS THE SAME IN THE FISRT GAME. MAYBE ITS BECAUSE IM NOT A VIDEO GAME EXPERT, BUT I SPENT SO MUCH TIME RUNNING AROUND FINDING THINGS THAT IT GOT KINDA BORING AT TIMES. BUT I GUESS IF YOU TAKE NOTES AND REMEMBER WHERE YOUVE BEEN ETC, THIS WONT APPLY TO YOU! GREAT GAME.
An Unforgettable Classic

This game is both disturbing, terrifying; charming, and fascinating at the same time. The story is brilliant; confusing at first but very deep and original as it unfolds. Sound and atmosphere are unparalelled. Settings and monsters are bizarre and twisted. Controls and camera angles are a bit annoying, but don't take out a bit from this excellent game; 5 stars nevertheless.
It is easy to lose your patience and dump this game alltogether early on. But if you hang on, you are in for one hell of an experience. I myself couldn't get out of the first room (bathroom) in the game's opening! Also, don't miss the map in the car! As you can see, I had no experience with the game's genre from the beginning, but I still ended up enjoying this game and in fact it is my all-time favorite. Remember, there are spoiler-free FAQs and message boards in the internet which can help if you get stuck. As the game progresses, you will get the hang of the controls, puzzles, and objectives, and you can progress through easily by yourself (depending on the skill level you chose in the beginning).
Another thing to note about this game is the variety in skill levels that you can choose. You can set the game to be a piece of cake, so you can play through and enjoy the story without too much fighting distraction, or puzzle madness. Or you can set it so that it is really a challenge to stay alive or to figure out the darn puzzles. There are also multiple endings and secret items; which add to the replay value of the game. Some endings are better than others, in terms of understanding the deep meaning of the story. I was lucky to get a good one first. Doing things differently will alter endings. These actions are subtle, so I recommend you check the internet's FAQ's or message boards (or the strategy guide) for pointers.
And finally, there is the game's superb graphics, sound, and atmosphere. The graphics are truly a work of art, albeit a dark and twisted one. The fog which many people complain about is there for a purpose; and that is to scare you more (you don't know what's lurking ahead), and to confuse you. The sound is the best I have heard on a game; realistic, terrifying at times, with a beautiful soundtrack and good (for a game) voice acting. The monsters are bizarre, although I wish there were some more variety of them throughout the game.
As for scariness, I found Silent Hill 1, which I actually played later, to be more scary. SH2 is better described as more spooky and mental than scary. Both games explore the concept of hell which in the first one is more demonical, and in the second one more mature and psychological. The stories of both games are completely independent of each other.
Have fun and enjoy this excellent masterpiece!

At first when I heard all the hype about the game and decided to give it a try. The Graphics are almost realistic (just under the level of the Final Fantasy movie). The creatures are bizarre (in a good way), and the human characters are almost more creepy than the creatures. In my eyes there is a downfall, now don't get me wrong, I enjoy games where you do some aimless wandering around, I'm a big fan of the Tomb Raider and Metal Gear games, and they have a lot of that, but the downfall is this takes it to the extreme.Another thing is, is the lighting is very, very, very dark and in some cases even non existent.I like the game a lot, BUT it does have a few drawbacks. And from time to time, the activity within the game is like watching grass grow.
