Eerie, great graphics, and not overly difficult

I really like this game. The monsters aren't too hard to defeat once you get used to the way James uses each weapon, and you get just enough ammo and power-ups to get you through, if you use them conservatively. The puzzles are challenging, but not overly so. You can change the difficulty level of the monsters you have to fight and of the puzzles you must solve. I know this has been compared to the Resident Evil games, but while I just couldn't get into those, I was immediately [drawn] into the world of Silent Hill 2. Two minor complaints: 1. There is a little too much fog! The fog makes it so you really have to scour all areas for your power-ups, and sometimes you know a monster is near, but you can't find it! Which actually adds to the scariness of it all, since often they're lurking right behind you. Aaah! 2. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it gets a lot easier as you get used to how the game works. But it's still fun to play, don't get me wrong. I'm just used to games increasing in difficulty toward the end. A great psychological thriller of a game!

This is an Awsome game, from an avid game player, I don't just buy any game so it has to be something unique. The storyline is remarkable, and the fact that you can customize the game as you see fit, plus there are so many different endings. The graphics are astounding, and the plot is frightfully moving.

This game was a lot of fun to play. Do yourself a favor and play through it at least once without the use of the strategy guide. You'll have a much more enjoyable experience without it. I have played throught it three times, and have seen three different endings. This is the only weak part of the game, as none of the endings I have seen so far live up to the inner game story and they leave you wondering about far too much at the end of the game. Other than that small complaint, Silent Hill 2 is a great game that horror genre buffs will have a hard time putting down.

Rarely a video game sequel comes along that can meet the standards of its predecessor, and Silent Hill 2 fills the shoes of the original by far. It is rated Mature for blood and gore content, but it is worth it for all of the incredible game play, brilliant movie clips and a high-definition sound that is unequaled. The game is set in Silent Hill where the original took place. You play as James, an "everyman" protagonist answering a note from his wife to meet him in Silent Hill, a rather unusual request since his wife has been dead for over three years. You go through the game finding objects such as the pistol (a favorite from the original), and a giant six-foot long sword to slaughter over 10 new monsters that get in the way of your search for his wife. You also encounter many frustrating puzzles and a difficulty set at a level that is just perfect. Silent Hill 2 was a welcomed addition, and a great video game to see this year. A definite must play fir veterans of adventure horror gaming, and those newcomers looking for a good scare.

you have to give this game five stars because it is five times better then resident evil and way scarier than shadowman you get a chain saw guns and other neat weapons (...) there may even be some nudity on it who knows (...)

Scary, but way too short

This game has its scary/weird/intense moments, definitely, but it is so short that it is not worth the (dollar amount). With 10-12 hours of actual gameplay, it's better to rent it for three days and beat it for $5, trust me. I was also very disappointed by the puzzles - there were much too few, and some of them were so ridiculously easy (even on the "hard" setting) that they hardly even count. This is the sort of game you might want to get in order to show off your PS2 to your friends for a few minutes, but secretly inside you'll get that empty feeling that you should have bought yourself something else.

Silent Hill 2 Is One Of The Best Games I've Ever Played. It literly scares you, it's the kind of game that makes u wanna play with the lights on, the sound is scary, the envirnment is scary, and so are the monsters, the puzzles are hard but they not so hard that you can't figure them out. the people are cool and weird and its cool how u figure out why they're in silent hill in the first place. the story line is good and the reactions and the way the characters talk is realistic. if you liked the first one you'll love the 2nd. Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 are one of my favorite games. I Recomend it to anyone.

This game is great. I only gave it 4 for the story but it is srary. Graphic today make games so much better. The gore effects are awsome, and the weapons are standard to today other than a ultra-electro-frying-brain-gun. This game is a get for REAL gamers.

overall it was a good game,i just thought the storyline was extremely depressing and the ending had you wondering why james sunderland and yourself just went through all this... for nothing!!!
