a great game...

I bought this game 'cause a friend of mine told me he got it and that it was really good. And so far it is one of the best games on the PS2, which iguess isnt too hard to be when the selection of games is so ... still.

It's a good anime style game, reminds me a lot of Fear Effect for the PSX, but its definitly better. The graphics are pretty good, and the controls can be a bit annoying at first, but when you get use to them you realize that every game should have this control system. By giving full functionality to both analog sticks you have complete (and easy) control over your whole environment. The only time i get into trouble with the controls is when i get jumped by about 3 enemy soldiers, which if i was smarter the first time around i would have been able to take them all out one by one.

There are some great characteristics to this game. The enemies in the game are very 'smart'. You are only allowed to carry one gun, so choose it wisely. And ammo is not so greatly in abundance. Which is all nice because it helps add realism to the game. Well, as much realism as an anime taking place in 2032 can be.

If you are anxiously awaiting metal gear solid 2, than get this game. It will tide you over.

Interesting Concept and Non-Stop Action

All the 7/10 reviews that I've seen made me more surprised with this game. I would give more like a 9/10 for the PS2 edition. It brings an interesting concept with many new features, merging Tomb Raider with a fighting game while keeping the anime style. Graphics are nice, not overwhelming, but appropriate. The game serves it's purpose, it's fun!

Imagine being able to do some kick-... kickboxing while desarming your opponent, taking his gun, and using it to finish the rest. She even have a few insults in bank for them! You learn moves as you go further in the game, as well as obviously finding new guns.

Ah, the so called weird controls... Yes, it's definitely different since they even found a good use for BOTH analog stick (pretty uncommon). Then again, you don't have a keyboard with ALT and CTRL either so they had to find something. All in all, I do not find that an issue but rather a challenge that can be overcomed quickly by practicing.

The difficulty of the game (easy, medium, hard) is well-balanced and should appease everybody.

This game is definitely something worth looking into on the PS2 at the moment.

I bought this game, and personally thought that it was one of the greatest games ever made. The game play is spectacular, and there are over 20 different moves to execute in this game, which makes for a lot of time to learn the controls. This game lets you switch between using a gun and using your fists to fight your enemy. The game has a large variety of attacks and weapons, only adding to the coolness. The only downside to this game is the odd way that the right analog controls your direction your facing, and the left controls where you move, but any player will catch on to that fast. All in all, this is an incredible game, with incredible graphics, play control, and plot. Any gamer that liked Tomb Raider will fall in love with this game.

Great!!!

Oni is one of the best games you can get for the PS2 right now! The graphics are great, and the fighting system is very cool! There are tons of cool moves that are pretty easy to execute, and lots of cool weapons. The storyline is also really good, and will really pull you into the game. Load times may be a bit long, but that doesn't take away from an otherwise great game. You may have a bit of trouble getting used to the controls at first, but they will soon seem like second nature to you. Casual gamers, hardcore gamers, and anime fans alike will love this game!

Except for Madden and SSX

i would buy this. The game is FUN and Exciting. I can understand people complaining about the controls, but hey, figuring out the moves is part of the game. Too bad if you are used to fighting with only one button doing one thing. Its a challenge. The levels are fun, the renderings of the characters are excellent, although the backgrounds are a little weak.

Too many people focus on the non-essentials of a game, like the controllers dont correspond to what im used to. The most important thing in a game is playability. This game has plenty of that so i highly recommend it. Sure as heck beats the other PS2 games that are out there hands down (except Madden and maybe SSX)

Too good!

I think that this game is great! I first tried it out on my PC, the graphics were quite decent. Then I went out and bought the game for the Playstation 2, and was amazed! Some of the textures looked better, and much more refined. The Control is completly unique, although this will take some time to master. The default is that when you want to turn your character in a different direction, you move the right analog pad. The battle system is nice too, as you can defend yourself from enemies in all directions. The only thing that's strange is the difficulty. I have had to try over and over to beat some of the missions, but to me, it makes the game last longer (usually). So I would reccomend you atleast rent the game, and give it a shot.

BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought this game for my brother and pretty soon i fell in love with it, though the graphics arnt the best at times, the enviroments which were designed by actual architects are very cool, plus the storyline is cool, i would say if you like cool games get ONI, there is also a PC version so if you are not good with complicated controles it is easier to controle the PC version

oni rocks
