oni-good game but too many glitches

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 0 / 0

this game was the first ps2 game i ever owned. overall it is a good game with a complex story and fun levels. My only critisim is that there are too many glitches. for example- you are playing the game and all of the sudden glitch it stops. This is a nusence because there is nothing you can do about it. If i were you i would deffinetly rent this game before i bought it .

A good game, but impossible to beat

Oni for the PC is a great game. But for the PS2, some of the thrill is gone. The gameplay is the same, but the controls are lousy. Generally, when you turn left or right you will accidentally nudge the joystick so that you look up or down at an angle that makes it hard for you to shoot. Level 3 is almost impossible to beat because of the [weak] controls. Another problem is the lack of ammo. You get very little to start, and the villians you kill have a very small chance of giving you anything. If you buy this, I'd spend the extra money and get it for PC. The game is exactly the same, but the controls are ever so much better...

This is a fun game and kicks... Oni has a lot of fighting moves and the game has great 3D graphics. Though, I personally find one major drawback in this game are the camera angles - the camera always stays at the same distance behind Oni causing the walls of a room to get in the way and block the view of what is happening. As a result many times when I'm fighting an opponent and I can't see what I'm doing. This is a flaw that needn't be.

Nice Graphics, Interesting Storyline, Frustrating Gameplay

Graphics. I first played this game in a PC demo, and it looked like a great title to me. Actually this game was the first I bought when I managed to get the PS2. I was excited wondering what the graphics would be in this new number-crunching-console and I wasn't disapointed at first.

Story. You are soposed to be a futuristic female cop. You don't know anything about yourself, but other character's dialogue let you know that you are not human (at least not completely). Your mission is to kick some butts and stop some kind of evil company who is develping some forbiden technologies. Your secondary mission (I guess) is to find out who you really are. I have gone through only 3 chapters (i'll explain next) so I just have seen the beginning of the story, which is, quite interesting.

Gameplay. The problem began when I tried to advance in the game. The first two chapters i did it pretty good, but then I was siply stuck in the third chapter. The reason: the controls are just too darn dificult. You have to use ALL buttons and sometime an odd combination just to avoid your enemies's bullets or trying to kick some bad guy. I guess I'll start cheating.

Conclusion. To those who used to like Contra-like games, this is just for you (with awesome graphics), but if not i defenitely recommend to rent it first.

Recommended but with caveats

First of all, this game is extremely fun to play. It kept me at my computer for hours at a time! The controls are tricky at first, and the special moves take practice (and patience) to pull off, but before long they become second nature. And the fighting...oh, the fighting is cool!

So why the three stars? Well, it's pretty much fight-jump-fight-shoot-fight-watch cutscene-repeat. Puzzle solving amounts to finding the control panels that unlock doors, and that's it. The weapons are unique, but can be difficult to use. Plus, there's no multiplayer (for those of you that care...personally, it doesn't bother me).

I can forgive those flaws much more easily than I can the largest one: most people (myself included) have had tons of problems getting the game to run on their systems. If you buy this game, you should be prepared to not be able to play it until you tinker around with settings, download new drivers, etc. I know Oni is not the only game that has such problems, but it is frustrating nonetheless.

But again, this is a really fun game, and I'd recommend it. Just be aware of what you're getting into.

This game (I thought) was going to be an action packed thriller with the best storyline to buy. Though, when I played it, It is an action packed game. Not really a thriller and NOT a good storyline. It has seventeen levels and once you get to each one it gets more boring and boring. Though, I would reccomend not to buy this, but to rent it because there's really no thrill in playing a boring bought game more than once. Beating it once was only for me, so It was sorta a waste of money for me to buy this. I especially love playing a game more than once. Like Resident Evil and Silent Hill are two games that are fun to play even more than twice. So rent this game, don't buy it...

When I first popped in this game and started to play I found it to be extremely frustrating, the controls were all out of wack. As I played on I found the game to be excitng with a great story line, and the controls were bcoming more familiar. Yet as I came into the more difficult levels the controls were again frustrating as hell. My advice... RENT IT!!! It's a great game don't get me wrong. However, I believe that many people will be done with it after the first week.
