awesome game but could be better

Oni is one of the first ps2 games ever to start off which means this is before it started to get the extremely beautiful graphics but this game has good graphics for ps2 at the time. Brought to you by the infamous Rockstar games that brought you such titles such as GTA Vice City and Midnight Club 2,it chronicles the career of Konoko an officer who learns that she is part of an experiment started by her late father and when she starts to uncover the truth about what she is everyone turns on her. Now she must fight for the truth and her life.Great plot with good anime cinematics the whole thing is reminiscent of ghost in the shell. The game play goes from descent to somewhat difficult at times and the game does have a few glitches but all in all it is a good game that just didn't realize its full potential.

I bought this game for my brother and pretty soon i fell in love with it, though the graphics arnt the best at times, the enviroments which were designed by actual architects are very cool, plus the storyline is cool, i would say if you like cool games get ONI, there is also a PC version so if you are not good with complicated controles it is easier to controle the PC version

Better than average

This was one of the first games I bought for my PS2. I bought it since you could fight with and without guns and you could these awesome fighting moves. The game is awesome in every way. The story is very simple and the controls are a little hard for an unexperienced gamer. The length of the game is decent and the camera occasionaly gets in the way. This is why it is getting a 4 star rating. Other than that the game is good. It's not to violent and it is a lot of fun once you get the hang of the controlls. I recommend this game to most people who are able to learn the controlls of a game easily.

In this game you play Konoko who appears to be an agent for a special police force of some type called the TCTF. As the game progresses she finds out the truth about herself and the people in charge of the TCTF.

You fight your way through this game with martial arts and weapons. I used a combination of a guns blazing approach and sneaking up on people/sniper.

There are 8 or 10 different kinds of weapons and as the game goes along you learn about their best use. The hold different amounts of ammo and ammo is pretty scarce in the later levels so you have to take that into account. There are lots of places to fall to instant death in the later levels but you learn to use this to your advantage by throwing your enemies off the buildings.

It is a little rough around the edges as the review mentions. Sometimes beaten enemies sort of hang through the walls, you can go into the next room and see legs sticking through the walls. Sometimes the enemies appear to just lose track of you during combat. You can also sometimes hit people through walls and doors (I learned to appreciate this as the game got more difficult).

I just finished playing this game through (. . .)I'm not sure exactly how long it took because I did it over the course of about a month. I have played only a few games through to the finish but this game is such an adrenaline rush I was compelled to keep playing. This game is a STEAL (. . .)

Good. ^_^

This is a great game. The controls may be a little hard at first, but I managed to do it and I'm the world's biggest klutz. ^_~

It's a little bit too hard, though, especially in the beginning. They could've made it a little easier for new players, but it doesn't take away much from the overall enjoyment of the game. There are also a ton of cheat codes, which add to the replay value.

The levels are HUGE and, for the most part, interactive. Most of Konoko's moves are easy to pull off, and there is a wide selection of guns for you to use.

One minor problem are the cut scenes. The characters don't move around too much, and you can't skip them. The loading times are also a bit long.

All in all, this is a great game for fans of the action genre who are looking for something a bit different. ^_^

Its Ok so far

I haven't gotten to far on this game yet, but I thought I otta say something to make you like it.(Cause most of the other reviews don't!) The controls on this game aren't the easiest to get used to, but their cool. The graphics are good, but I,ve seen better. As for the game play, it's awsome! The only thing about it is that you could shoot a guy 40 times and he still wouldn't bleed! The backround story is sweet! I do have a suspicion about Konoko, but I wouldn't want to ruin the fun!

Too Much Trouble for the Money.

Oni was way, way too difficult to control. I found I had to set all of the controls to my own ways because otherwise there would be no way I would ever get through it. The only real value to the game is that is good looking and has a lot of freedom. Unfortunately, the effort to give you freedom gave the game ... controls. The game also lacked originality and a sense of adventure that I hoped would come with it. Instead, it was a game where if you were patient in playing it enough you could get through it. I think if this was the first version of the game, as the manufacturer I would be pleased, but would have long conversations on how to improve it. As a result, look elsewhere to spend your bucks.

good bang for the old buck

I really like this one. The controls are a bit complicated, but I think that's one sign of a complex game that takes a while to master. Once you got the controls, uh, under control the game takes off and is REALLY a blast!

Big levels. Really smooth graphics and interaction. Good sound. Not too cheesy, etc etc etc. A really balanced and good game.

The graphics aren't the best the PS2 has to offer, but they're suited to the type of game Oni is. I've never been one to be balk at a game just because graphics aren't cutting edge...there's way more to this game than it's cover appearance.

Buy Oni and get into it. For the price it's now going for, it'll be well worth it.

A grown-up Tomb Raider

The Tomb Raider series is great, but by TR3 was beginning to get repetitive. Oni is essentially a darker, faster, more challenging, futuristic Tomb Raider game for those who have outgrown the Tomb Raider series.

This was my first time playing this type of game on a game console (I had previously played the Tomb Raider series only on Macs). While using a controller and not a standard keyboard was a little odd, the controls were easy to learn, aided greatly by the interactive training stage before the main adventure begins. Oni also includes actual hand-to-hand combat, which is often a much better option than using the various weapons. The enemies are also far smarter than in the Tomb Raider series. And the multiple levels of play provide increasing challenges for expert players.

The action is fast-paced and thought-provoking, the storyline intriguing, and the music excellent. This is certainly not a Gran Turismo 3 or an SSX, but Oni is still a wonderful game with good replay value.
