Hands down the worst game I have ever played

Don't be fooled by the seemingly positive reviews that ... seems to give this game. The thing that realy does this game in is the extremly awkward controls. I'm sure they were trying to be inovative by coming up with a new way of doing things but in the end the game is supposed to be fun, and it isn't fun dying every 10 min because you couldn't accuratly turn around and hit the guy behind you. Add this in with a "been there, done that" storyline and you have a game you definetly can do without. This game is so bad that I rented it, only played for two days, forgot I had it and ended up having to pay the late fee when I didn't return it in time.

Fun Gameplay outweighs all

When I started playing the game, I easily got used to the great controls. As I began playing the levels, I realized that this game is complex and fun. Each level is complicated and challenging while incorporating action and fun. Many games have produced beautiful graphics while still being pitiful, boring games themselves. X-squad, Timesplitter, NBA Live, Rc Revenge and many others for the Ps2 have supplied nice graphics with bad gaming. This game is far from that dreadful list. I recently played Rayman 2: Revolution and felt highly about it. This game surpasses its gameplay on many levels. Firstly, I beleive that the topic is just generally more fun. The cross breed of fighting and first-person shooter really works nicely. You beat up and shoot down your enemies in vivid, task-related levels. Graphically this game is only above-average. The game holds its own visually but no stunning awe like in SSX or Madden 2001 is present. Knowing and excepting this is nothing of a task. I barely noticed anything bad when playing this. Some may find the backgrounds a tad pail, but they don't like games, they like special effects and the replays of any game. If you want a fun game with action buy this.(You must note though, that the graphics are similar to a good dreamcast game. If you want graphics, buy Rayman 2:Revolution.)

Great game once you get the controles down>

This is really a great game. the graphics are pretty good the game play is intence and fun, but the controles are quire aquerd. Its not easy usein the left analog stick to go forward backware and side to side and the right analog stick to tern and look up and downand to punch kick jump and crawl with the L and R bottons. but once you get use to is you'll be able to dodge a guys fire wile kicking his buddy in the head with ease wile at the same time recharging your health and drawing your wepon all in the same motion. To wrap it up I'd recomend this game to any one who like fast paced action in an anime style area.

Good story, odd controls, decent playability....

I'm a hardcore fan of action martial arts style games. When I saw ONI I had to get it. At first, I was dissapointed by the controls, but they don't take horribly long to get used to. If you use the pad and the right analog stick, it's not that hard to control. I didn't feel that there was enough mixture in martial arts moves or weapons. And fighting the same enemies over and over get's boring after a while. And the more complex moves, were usually near impossible to pull off when you REALLY need them to. Throws were pretty much useless in actual combat unless you were lucky enough to get one off. And the ending was somewhat of a letdown. But despite it's bad points, it is a very well done game, storywise. But replay value is low. Decent to own, but not recommended to buy. A good weekend renter though.

Use the D-pad!

If you're planning on buying this game, be warned: You will HATE it for the first hour or so. The controls are unlike any other game I've ever played. Once you get used to them, though, the advantages are clear. mainly, you can do several things simultaneously. For instance: you can slide across the ground into an enemy, knocking him down, while using a hypo spray (i.e. med pack) and picking a gun up off the ground all in one motion! If you ask me, that's worth the time it takes to get used to the weird controls.

One word of advice: D-Pad. You use the D-Pad or the left analog stick to control Konoko's movement forward and back and strafe left and right. Use the D-Pad it's a lot easier.

The basic gameplay is really strong. The story, up through the first 1/3 of the game is pretty typical anime kind of stuff. The voice acting is decent.

Where this game really loses points is in the details. The levels are huge and really cool structurally, but the textures are bland and and don't change much. The ground is often too dark, which sometimes makes it difficult to judge distances. There are places where there should be lots of civilians, but only a few show up. The cut scenes are also really disappointing.

On the whole, I would rate Oni as more of a 4- rather than a 4. It's a great foundation and fun to play, but as a total package, it could be a lot better.

BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!

this game is fun not only do u fight using a hot chick with martial arts u get to fight with weapons each weapon serves their own purpose you can fire poisonous gas into a room and u can run away and wait for ur enemies to die you can shock someone you have a 45. that fires just like a real gun ofcourse it feels real and yes it hard and the controling isnt too bad at all .. to all the haters rating this game its because they have no skillz ... ooo and the cheats are awesome u can shape shift into the guys are u are fighting soo soo cool def. not very replayable but for 2 or 3 bucks of buying this game ITS DEF. WORTH IT !!!!!!!!!!!

Why 3 stars: No multiplayer !!

Good controls, gameplay and graphics. Actually, the concept and execution for the story-driven game are great, but what about after you beat it. A mulitplayer portion was supposed to be included, but the game was rushed to market to coincide w/ PS2 release. Also annoying is the amount of time it takes to load a saved mission and/or return to the game menus. Own it and love it, but I play RF2 and UR Tournament more than Oni. So sad.

luvved it on PC and Playstation even better

What a great game this is. The only reason I don't give it a five is the lack of multiplayer mode, so that you could use all the aforementioned 'complex' moves you learned on somebody else. But it has a great story line, great artwork, great combat feel, and good looking heroine.... what more could you want, especially for the price these daze.... BUT I WOULD PAY 40 BUCKS FOR A MULTIPLAYER VERSION..... ( hint to Rockstar )
