Legends of Wrestling is a pretty good game since the roster has some superstars that you will know (Hulk, RVD, Bret Hart, and a few others). The gameplay is pretty slow because the controls are not like WWF SmackDown!. It is hard to reverse moves done by other wrestlers. The move list is hard to figure out you have press buttons over and over again. The graphics are like EA's WCW games. THe modes in the game are few think WCW Mayhem (CAreer,Exhibition, Tage, Special Referee, Tournment, Create a wrestler). It's like WWF Attitude you play career and tournment mode to unlock hidden wrestlers. There is no commentary like in WWf Attitude, You can get weapons in any match and use them in the ring. I hope that LOW 2 is better than the first when it comes out. I will save up for the game if the reviews are good.
Excellent gamplay - No WWF License

When I first saw it, I had to have it because I grew up on old-school 80's and early 90's wrestling. However, the cast of characters and their representation is a bit dissapointing. First, I don't think this game is endorsed by the WWF because if you notice, the entraces don't feature their theme music, which is a HUGE letdown, and also the wrestlers are reffered to without use of their ring names, e.g. Ricky "The Dragon" STeamboat or "The Million Dollar Man" are known only as Ricky Steamboat and Ted DiBiase, respectively.
In addition, a large number of great stars were left out, such as Shawn Michaels, Big Boss Man, Ultimate Warrior, and Macho Man Randy Savage, just to name a few. Also the match types are pretty limited to basic tag teams, one-on-ones, and 4 man free for alls.
But enough bashing this game. It is actually pretty decent if you disregard all the stuff I mentioned above. The gameplay is very solid, and the controls are very much reminiscent of the old NES wrestling games that we all love so much. The career mode is outstanding, too.
In short, if you don't expect too much and just want a game that is fun to play, pick this one up!
It's un...It's in...It's...It's...it SUCKS to heaven!

Ok,I am a huge fan of modern and old-school wrestling and I always thought that I never ever could hate ANY wrestling game on ANY game station (I even liked WCW Nitro on PSOne),but since I experienced this [game],I changed my mind.
First of all,the graphics are beyond bad. Many people complain about the strange look of the wrestlers in Smackdown!3,but THESE look even more strange and additionally, they don't even move their face.
The controls are quite complex and every wrestler has the same moveset. They remind me of WCW Nitro. The moves are animated very well, but that doesn't matter if you can't use more than 12 moves in all.And the dirst review says that you could win a match fast.Well, that's Ok,but that's not what a wrestling game is supposed to give to you.A wrestling game should try to produce balanced matches. Two opponents shouldn't work against each other but WITH each other and I think WWF Smackdown3 does it very well and certainly better than THIS.
The Create a wrestler-mode is poor.Sorry, can't say it in any other way.You can only choose between the body partd that are already given by the "legends" included in the game.
And the most shocking fact is: there are only 12 different match types!Good god, even WCW/nWo World Tour on the good ol' N64 had more. Hands off this game!
How do I say this? . . . It Stinks.

I am a fan of the Hulk Hogan days of wrestling and was looking forward to this game. I bought it, played it once, and sold it. Some people have said you have to play it more to get it, but I don't even want to look at it anymore. It is that bad. It is just no fun. It's slow, really slow and sluggish. And I never thought sound effects were important in a game until I played this. It has none. And did I mention it's sluggish? I really wanted to like it, but it is just bad, really bad.
Great game if you take the time to learn it.

This game is great, but you have to learn the controls and all that each character is capable of doing. I played this game for at least a month straight compared to 1 day for Smackdown. If you want a game where you only have 3 or 4 moves in each situation, get Smackdown. If you want a game where dozens of moves are available if you know how to do them, this is the game. The booklet with the game is very brief. You definitely will need the strategy guide but it is worth it.
Can't wait for Legends II!!!

I rented this game, and I'm glad I did.
The first thing that bothered me about this game is that the choosing of the roster is pretty bad. OK, Hulk Hogan, Bret Hart, Ted Dibiase, Legion Of Doom and few others, they belong in the roster, but hey, this game is called "LEGENDS of wrestling" so what do wrestlers like Nikolai Volkof, Greg "The Hammer" Valatine, One Man Gang, Koko B. Ware(???) doing here? No disrespect or anything, but they aren't even close. And speaking of REAL legends, where's Randy Savage, Ric Flair, The Undertaker or Shawn Michaels?
But that's a minor complaint, because after all the actual game is what really matters. And I'm sorry to say, this game is boring. Most of the wrestlers have a very similar set of moves, and that doesn't mean a lot of moves either. The controls aren't comfortable and the game is kinda slow and just isn't fun to play, it's very uninspired and unoriginal.
The graphics are OK, nothing more, it's not even close of taking full advantage of the Playstation 2. The wrestlers faces don't really look like the actual wrestlers.
The ring entrances are also very disappointing, I understand they couldn't get the original theme music of each wrestler, but at least show the wrestlers enter the ring!
The music in the game is repetitive and there aren't any announcers.
Perhaps the only good thing I can say about this game is that its career mode can keep it interesting for a while. That's probably the only thing this game has over Smackdown for the PS2.
Don't believe people who tell you otherwise, this game isn't worth buying, and it's definitely not better than Smackdown for the PS2. I got tired of this game after less than an hour. So far Smackdown is the only wrestling game worth buying for the PS2. Let's hope Legends Of Wrestling 2 will be better.
You will have more fun playing this than any wrestling game

While the graphics aren't as realistic than Smackdown, they weren't supposed to be. Do you want Hulk Hogan to look 50 or like he is in his prime? I love the graphics in Legends of Wrestling.
But what I like the best is the realistic gameplay. It makes the game very enjoyable since Smackdown is very arcadeish.
Overall I would definitely suggest purchasing Legends over Smackdown especially when you factor in that Legends has the best wrestlers ranging from Hulk Hogan to Rob Van Dam.

Ok, so they left out a few wrestlers who deserved to be in the game. So what stop your whining and make them up yourself. The game play is great (unless your worthless with comp games) I stomp all who challange me. The game is worth the money, its a keeper and brings back alot of memories of the good old days when wrestlers were men and not these whining punks that call themselfs pros. Get the game, enjoy.

This game is the biggest ripoff on the market today. I got it last week and it sucks. Slow gameplay, medicore graphics, and every wrestler has the SAME MOVES(except for the finisher). It is basically your standard 1980's "player 1 and 2, mash the buttons as hard as you can and whoever presses hardest gets to do a move". For Playstation 2, that is inexcusable. Some of the "legend" choices are a bit ridiculous("Mr. USA" Tony Atlas???? Tito Santana???? Rick Martel????)This game was a total waste of $.... Buy Smackdown:Just Bring It, it's 100000x better.

I read the bad press this game was getting before I bought the game, but had to go fork over the cash and buy it anyways. The roster is really good and would have been better if Vince McMahon would let THQ make some of the other clasic wrestlers but oh well. The wrestler roster as it is is worth it. But everything after that is questionable. When I looked on Acclaims web site it listed some match types and said plus many more, when I turned the game on I was surprised to find that the match types listed on the website was it. LOW only has , single , tag , tiple threat , and 4 player battle royal, and special referee and that is it. No other match types could be found , even Amazon listed a ladder match in its review but it is clearly not on the game. There is no create a stencil mode as listed on the website either. Dont look for it cuz its not there. And the interactive entrances are just a joke. The graphics glitch and skip , and hwen you go to high five someone you high five air. The career mode is the high point of the game, it is long and interesting. It makes you feel like you have accomplished something rather than SMACKDOWN/s three match long career mode. But overall , if your not a fan that needs 25,000 match types in a game you will like this game. The wrestlers are cool , the wrestling is pretty smooth, and the finishes are cool. The weapons also take a lot of damage to your opponent, plus you can do RVDs VANDAMINATOR! So if you want just a interesting roster and just want to plain ol wrestle LOW is for you, if you want 200 match types and a lack luster career mode go for Smackdown.
