The controversy.

This game is the sleeper hit of the PS2. To people like me who were dissappointed from the unfulfillment of of Smack Down Just Bring it, I submit to you this game. First of all, the most important aspect of the game is the career mode. You go from territory to territory within the United States to win belts. Once you win all the territories belts you unite them all into the United States belt. From there you go on to the world circuit and win the World Championship. After this, you defend that belt a few times and become a legend. A brief biography will be told about your given wrestler then you unlock some more legends that you can play as. The grappling system is what makes this game unique in which you initiate a move and your opponent will try to counter you if you're successful in preventing your opponent from countering you, while executing the move you have to have good timing to execute a combo as well. It sounds difficult at first, but as you play the game for awhile, you'll get the hang of the grappling engine and will love it. The action is not as face paced as Smackdown is, but you can execute alot more moves than on JBI. This game is akin to No Mercy of N64 in which you have a weak grapple and a strong grapple. You can pick up your opponent while still groggy and initiate moves from the front or back. THQ needs to drop the arcade style wrestling of the Smackdown series and adopt the grappling engines of the N64 and Xbox WWF wrestling games in order for their series to survive. Until then, this is the simply a superior wrestling game than Just Bring It. The naysayers to this title will tell you this game is not worth your time. I say give this game a whirl, stick with it till you get the hang of things, and judge for yourselves. If you don't like it that's fine we all have our own tastes. If you do like it then you'll be able to enjoy what so many people will be missing out on by not owning this game.

Miles Better Than SD Just Bring It

After being extremely disapointed by SD3 I was exstatic to see another wrestling release.

The chance to play as Bret Hart was fantastic to begin with and the fact that the career mode lays the smackdown on SD3's Story mode is what makes it better. It may not have as many match types or Backstage brawls like SD3 but you have to bear in mind that in the classic matches the ring was were the action was.

This is a must for any wrestling fan who like me watched it since they were little 4 year olds.... buy this game and go show people why it is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be!

The big complaint seems to be who made it in and who didn't. Doesn't matter. The game is actually pretty good, once you get past the move learning curve. It gave a very nice impression of working in the regional promotions, back in the day. I also like that, in the Create-A-Wrestler, you can actually make up a name, and have the Ring Announcer use it. I like the Career Mode, and having to work (literally) around the world made for a nice change from Raw or Smackdown. The "get the crowd into you" factor was a VERY nice touch. Over all, not too bad. I'm looking forward to the next one.

Better than SmackDown

I rented this yesterday. I was bored and decided to rent something. I saw this and said finally. This game is about the best wrestling game I'v played. Iwas impressed with the roster even though I'm only 13 and barley knew any of them. My father told me about most. There should have been a few others though such as: Andre the Giant,Ric Flair.Boss Man, The Undertaker, etc. And I kind of figured why Rob Van Dam(great superstar) was in it. ECW was built around him. Anyway on with my review. Fighting in this game is great fun. The best part is using various weapons that are used correctly. Like the trash can. In SmackDown they swung it like a baseball bat. In this they use it like the acts on TV. Also the weapons are effective. Your opponent falls down on the first hit. In SmackDown you had to hit them about 20 times before they fell for 5 seconds. Also Create A Legend mode is great. If you like today's stars as much as yesterdays you can make them. And you don't have to hunt around for caws. It's simple. I'v already made The Rock,Kurt Angle, and Steve Austin. And the anouncers can say those names. In SmackDown(3) you had to pick a name like wolf or something. Doing moves is alot easier than most people think. I thought I would do terrible but Ilearned how to kick in about 5 seconds and won my first match. Also submission moves are better. Here you hang on til your opponent gets to the ropes. In SmackDown you held on for 2 seconds. Well that's my review. Oh, just to tell you...I am a SmackDown fan.

As soon as I heard from my friends that a game called "Legends of Wrestling" was out, I immediately went to pick it up. I was anticipating playing with Sting, Ric Flair, Ultimate Warrior, Andre the Giant, Randy Savage, Shawn Michaels, and "Old-School" Undertaker. Unfortunately none of those legends are in the game. There's nothing Acclaim could have done about that due to copyright issues, but I was still disappointed. Instead all 6 Von Erich's are in the game among other never-has-beens such as Tony Atlas, One Man Gang, Rick Martel, Tito Santana, Koko B. Ware, Bob Orton, Eddie Gilbert, and Billy Graham. The create-a-wrestler is a little on the shabby side, luckily they had Sting's and Warrior's face paint and I was able to make a good Andre and Jake the Snake. The ring entrances are very brief, the entrance music is poor, no commentators, limited game modes, and the arena's are cheesy. The only strong point about the game is the career mode. I'm going to have to pick up Smackdown to see how it compares. I'll just hope their create-a-wrestler is a little stronger so I can create my own legends for a much better game. Acclaim could have done a much better job with this game, it seems like they rushed it just to get it on the shelves before Christmas.

Not so bad

I like this game a good bit, since I'm a fan of 80's wrestling. I think that the quality of the moves you can do is good, and that the ease of gameplay is quite good.

I am however bothered by a couple of things. There should be more wrestlers. The WWE needs to make games in this format, since a lot of those guys are some of the best ever.

The format is a bit odd. I don't like that you have to remember which characters you have games saved with in Career mode, and that there is almost no easy, clear-cut way to delete the game files that you don't want. It can only be done on certain screens, and not the way that you'd think.

The Career mode itself is frustrating because you have to win regional titles in different parts of the country, sometimes playing tag-team, 3 way dance, or whatever, and work your way up, popularity-wise so that you can challenge, and defend once, the title. After that, you move on to other regions. I'd prefer that there were a little bit more sense to it all, because I just wind up wrestling the Von Erich family more often than not, and there is no real excitement to the buildup of the title match.

Other than that, this is a fun game. I like the 'create a wrestler' feature, and that you can change your character's moves in a detailed way. More moves would be nice, but hopefully they build on this game the next time around.

This game is just wrong. The intro movie is horrible and disrespectful to wrestlers, fans, and gamers. The legends are all unrecognizable cartoon characters. It's missing legends and has legends with questionable credentials. I would have much rather had The Rockers than the Rock and Roll Mullet Xpress. Where's Strike Force? It's got like the whole damn Von Erik family for some reason. There's too many WCW guys. Rob Van Dam? Worst of all there's no authentic entrance music, I really wanted to hear "Real American". The create a legend feature is pretty stupid for obvious reasons. The most laughably stupid part is the random wanna-be Matrix camera angle, I laughed like hell when I first saw that! The crowd excitement meter is pretty accurate though, it was always in the red for me. What a tribute.

Definately not a pick-up and play game

I, like a few of the reviewers here, was saying 'what's this ...?' during my first LOW match. I kept playing it though (after I had turned on the Blood and turned off the ring entrances) and uncovered a deep, fun game.

The main problem with this game is that the instruction booklet [isn't good]. If you can pick up the PRIMA strategy guide do so. After reading through it I was like 'OK, so they didn't forget to include this' and 'Hey cool! Tiger Suplex!' Buy the way, this game has hundreds of moves so if you do get a little bored you can always interchange them with others.

Acclaim didn't make it easy for me to get into this game. If any game needed a tutorial mode this would be it. Anyway, stick it out guys and girls. There is a really good game in there.

Not Bad...Acclaim shows sign for great improvement

To put it simply, the game is a bit difficult to learn at first, but after you play it for a few minutes, you get the hang of it. The game can be frustrating at times though. To be honest, I got (mad) the first time I tried to play but it gets easier. THE CAREER MODE IS THE BEST ONE I HAVE EVER PLAYED IN A WRESTLING GAME. This is a great game but takes some getting used to, especially in tag team matches. Overall, it is worth getting.

Dream matches abound!

I love this video game! A lot of the old greats are here, and even though several of the better ones are missing (Roddy Piper, Lex Lugar, Sting, Ric Flair, Andre the Giant, etc), you can create them with the Create-A-Legend feature! This is the thing that sold me on this game more than any other. It's detailed enough to work, yet not so detailed that you have to spend hours figuring out how the thing works. You can create just about any wrestler from scratch in less than 10 minutes once you get comfortable with it, then create the dream matches we never got to see in the 80's. Remember the WWF vs. NWA vs. AWA rivalry? Well, pit Rick Martel against Hulk Hogan, create Ric Flair (the CAW's are all over the internet) and throw them all into the ring at once in a 3-way dance to settle who truly was the best world champion of the 80's! One feature I love is that you can become the referee in the match, so set up any match you want with yourself as the referee and then sit back and watch the fun. The match won't end until you count someone out or end it on a submission hold, so make it last as long as you want to. Here's just a few of the dream matches I've created: Steve Austin vs. Roddy Piper, Sting and the Ultimate Warrior vs. the Road Warriors, "Weird Al" Yankovic vs. Hulk Hogan (ok, that match was just for fun and really didn't last long, but it just proves you really can create just about anybody!). Even if you don't create any wrestlers, the choices here are great for the 80's fan. LOW2 is supposed to come out in the fall and offer more choices of match types (only 5 are supported here) and more fluid wrestler movements - and more wrestlers! Until it arrives though, pick this one up! One request to the developers, how about making sure we can use the legends we created in LOW1 in LOW2, ok? Definitely worth buying!
