Taking Dora the Explorer interaction to the next level!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 12 / 24

Greetings fellow Dora the Explorer fans from your favorite professor of semiotical dialectic!

For those of you not aware of the Dora the Explorer phenomenon, and I imagine the numbers are very few and have probably been living under that proverbial rock, Dora the Explorer is the title character and intrepid explorer of strange lands who, with the help of her ever-faithful simian companion "Boots" (so named for his enduringly waggish habit of sporting red boots), the astutely observant and conversational backpack (though it could be a mochila, which would be in keeping with the putative origins of Dora's peoples, though I, of course, consider her to be the Universal Everyimp) and lastly, but not leastly, the serially musical map, searches out clues, presents different options to the viewer, waits patiently for your response, and then with buddhistic grace and gnomic enthusiasm congratulates your discriminating acumen. It must be experienced to be truly understood.

Now Global Star Software has brought Dora the Explorer to the voluntary compliance of gaming enthusiasts everywhere, allowing anyone with a PS2 or GameCube consol the thrill of vicarious exploration through the self-actualized avatar of Dora the Explorer! My excitement was such that I may have temporarily lost control of certain sphinctating muscles and ever so slightly urinated myself.

More along the lines of a Shakespearean rather than an ancient Greek comedy, the plot of "Dora the Explorer: Journey to the Purple Planet" involves the befriending and aiding of a group of tribble-like aliens whose members each radiate the monochromatic hue of a single primary color. These poor creatures simply wish to return home, that Jungian longing to recover the lost Arcadia of a mythological past. Who would not be moved by such a plight? Certainly not Dora, and so you, as Dora, must help these wanderers return to the Purple Planet. Through six levels of gameplay closely resembling the animated series in their required completion of certain tasks, collection of vital objects, and, as always, the dexterous circumvention of that conniving pilferer Swiper the Fox, you, as Dora, must negotiate meteors, jet packs, cosmic jewels, and sundry other extraterrestrial phenomena in the most exciting space adventure ever devised by the mind of man.

I quite obviously enjoy this rollicking cosmic adventure, and I rather hoped my two-year old daughter would as well. But alas, she would rather engage the terrorists, mobsters, zombies, and profusely sanguinary martial artists of Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Resident Evil, and Mortal Kombat. To each her own, I suppose, but I will never tire of the experience that is Dora the Explorer!

A Journey That's Worth Repeating

Our 4-year old daughter loves this game. I wish there were more like it for the "early childhood" category. She is able to play it by herself and says she likes it because "no one dies in Dora and you get to explore every planet everywhere". It's a well done game with nice graphics (though I think Dora looks like those Bobblehead collectibles) and a happy atmosphere. It's a teaching game that builds skills and confidence and lets kids disappear into this fun world with bubbles and bouncing and fun kid-stuff. Plus, what kid of any age wouldn't like to fly a spaceship and collect treasure?

My 3 year old loves this game

My 3 year old daughter loves this game I have to limit her time on it so she doesn't become a couch potato! It is very fun and is educational!

As with any Dora collection when this game first came out, I bought it for my daughter. I played it first with her, and she ended up taking the controller away from me because she was too eager to play. Easy to follow through, don't worry about Dora falling off a cliff, because the game doesn't allow that feature. Even though she has mastered the game, she still loves to pick a planet and play. As with other reviews, just limit the time that your child plays with the game, and remind them that the good ol'outdoors also has adventures just waiting to be 'explored'.

Hi i am a 12 yearold and I think this game is the best game ever. It is very easy I played games like Halo and Sonic and they were too hard. But this game took me 3 months to beat and it was fun! I like the level were you have to collect the 4 aliens all you have to do is get them back from swiper and press A when they are on the screen and it's the hardest level ever!!! Buy this game it is SUPER FUN!

My 4 year old son loves to watch people play PS2, but can't seem to control most of the games. We bought Dora and the purple planet and it was great! He has no problems controlling Dora or figuring out what to do. What's great is that Dora can't just fall off cliffs or anything. It goes from level to level so it keeps from being boring. A great buy for a toddler just getting into video games.

I finally broke down and bought my family a video game system. I knew that my 4-year old daughter would want to play like her older brother.
Of all the kids' games that we bought, this one was by far the easiest. (I think this is the only PS2 game rated for early childhood.) The concepts are simple and it is not too tough to complete the tasks.
I suspect she will quickly outgrow this game, but I still think it was worth the money, just to give her a painless introduction to how video games work. It will increase her ability and confidence to play more challenging and exciting games.

This game is so easy and forgiving for my 3 year old to play and Dora the explorer makes him look at colors shapes and counting they even get to go into backpack to choose what item will work for them the best. It is a surprisingly long game where they visit several planets along the way.

My Seven year old helps him and then when he gets board of playing she takes over and of course it is too easy for her but she still likes it.

This game has been a blessing to my children. My 4 year old & 5 year old can play without my help and my 2 year old loves to watch. You can't ask for anything better than that. Good graphics and very easy. They just keep playing over and over again.
