A Review Of "Dora the Explorer Journey to the Purple Planet"

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 3 / 4
Date: December 29, 2005

My 5 year old daughter received this for Christmas, finishing it within two days; it's a short game, but she enjoyed it and is still playing it. The game has all the elements from the TV series: Boots tags along with Dora, Map provides the directions, Backpack provides the tools you need when the time comes, and all the familiar songs are there. The goal is to help some aliens find their way back home; that is, the Purple Planet. To get there you have to follow set paths on different planets, solving simple puzzles along the way, such as matching shapes or colours.

This was the first Playstation 2 game my four year old daughter has played and the controller was too big for her hands; she placed the controller on her lap, clutching the left joystick from the top, using her right forefinger to press the Action button. She asked for my help once, when a path wasn't obvious; otherwise, she spent six to eight hours playing it, finishing it in that time.

I was disappointed that the game didn't take long to complete, but my daughter doesn't mind, and that's all that matters.

Hi i am a 12 yearold and I think this game is the best game ever. It is very easy I played games like Halo and Sonic and they were too hard. But this game took me 3 months to beat and it was fun! I like the level were you have to collect the 4 aliens all you have to do is get them back from swiper and press A when they are on the screen and it's the hardest level ever!!! Buy this game it is SUPER FUN!

My 4 year old son loves to watch people play PS2, but can't seem to control most of the games. We bought Dora and the purple planet and it was great! He has no problems controlling Dora or figuring out what to do. What's great is that Dora can't just fall off cliffs or anything. It goes from level to level so it keeps from being boring. A great buy for a toddler just getting into video games.

purple planet is a smooth introduction to video games

I finally broke down and bought my family a video game system. I knew that my 4-year old daughter would want to play like her older brother.
Of all the kids' games that we bought, this one was by far the easiest. (I think this is the only PS2 game rated for early childhood.) The concepts are simple and it is not too tough to complete the tasks.
I suspect she will quickly outgrow this game, but I still think it was worth the money, just to give her a painless introduction to how video games work. It will increase her ability and confidence to play more challenging and exciting games.

Once my son beat it, that was it!

My son is five and really enjoyed this game. He has not been playing the PS2 long and this was the first game that he actually beat, which made him very happy. However, now that he has seen other games, he is not so intrested in playing Dora anymore. The graphics just are not as good as other games, but it is excellent for younger players. There is no violence or loss of life. There is counting, colors and music. It also helped build his skills for other games, though I do not know if that is a good thing, because now he wants to play all the time!

It's a good interactive game...that will require assistance from a parent or older sibling. Is truly adapted from the show.

My 4 year old daughter loves this game! She can play all by herself and she got so excited the first time she won! Even though she has beat it repeatedly, she still loves coming back for more.

My husband and I like that she can play without "dying". She doesn't have to keep starting over. It is very kid friendly. I just wish there were more children's games like this one. We actually went back and bought the dora game for the ps1 for her because there are not many games like this for kids.

Santa got this for our daughter last christmas, it worked great until April (the warranty was only 90 days so I was out of luck there). She was 3 at the time and she could do everything (unlike Curious George and other 'preschool' games). In April it started making that terrible noise another reviewer mentioned, so we got our PS2 serviced. Worked great for about 10 days. I have now had the game resurfaced and cleaned and it still won't work. I called support for Take 2, the manufacturer and they told me that it is a jewel case DVD and older PS2's tend to have trouble with this game either due to the drive, the laser or both. So I called Sony, they didn't know anything about it and have now offered to let me exchange our PS2, on which EVERY other game we have, and we have upwards of 4 dozen, works fine, for a refurbished model and it will only cost me $45 additional dollars.

So I now have spent $40 on a game that did work but now doesn't, another $35 or so getting the system and game checked out and still don't have a game that works. My daughter is upset and I'm just aggravated. We love the game but unless you have a newer PS2 - steer clear.

this game has many levels, but if your child is older than about 4, they probably will be very bored. There isn't really much to do, and all the buttons do one thing, plus it is kind of slow moving. Very cute game, and my 4 year old loves it, but she beat the game within a couple weeks, and hasn't touched it since.
