This is a weird game. I bought it even though i heard it really wasn't worth buying, and i am still on the fence with that in my own head.
The graphics are just amazing, but its squaresoft so that is expected. It's definitely the best graphics yet on the PS2, that i have seen. The storyline is pretty good, the more i play it the more i get into it.
The reason though it only gets 3 stars from me is that there is a lack of gameplay in it. It's a lot of movies and very little fighting. And when you do fight the controls are extremely easy but the camera blows. There are quite a few times that the camera is facing you and the enemies are behind the camera, you have to stumble blindly into them at times.
If and when the game goes down in price i recommend it, but if you are looking for a fighter with a LOT of replay value get DOA2 or Tekken Tag (if not just for the bowling game).
Just Rent the damn thing, its the worst since RES on the PS1

The truth is... this is the shortest and possibly worst game I've seen since Resident Evil Survivor. It plays out the same all the time. All you ever do is fight. You watch a movie play (which by the way takes advantage of the DVD features), then you battle. What's up with that?
This game is also short. You can beat the game in 30 minutes at the least. Unless you watch all the movie sequences, it'll only take you that long. It takes 2 hours watching it. This game could've been so much better if you did something besides fight, and if they have a movie after every battle. They had one part that made it seem action/adventure like. Other than that, the game is too short to buy so you should rent it. The game is also to easy to need a players guide (but I got one anyway). I was actually disappointed with it. Being that since it was SQAURESOFT I thought I could count on a good game, but now I know never to go by the creators again.
Just rent the game. WAYYYYYYYYY to short and easy to buy.
ok game

this game is ok. well first of all, there is no gameplay except for the fight scenes which are all pretty easy (Dauragon 4 is the only character who puts up a fight). Square promised a lot with this game like being able to interact with the environment, but i've never been able to, oh say, pick up a chair or a pool stick and hurt the enemies. during some of the loading scenes, they show dialogue about the character's past which is really interesting, EXCEPT THAT THEY ONLY GIVE YOU 10 SECONDS TO READ THE WHOLE THING! lastly, i beat the game with Kou in about an hour and 20 minutes, Sion in an hour and 20 minutes, and i beat it with Volt in an hour and 10 minutes! now let's move on to the good points. this game probably has the best graphics on PS2. the loading times are only about 10-15 seconds long and by doing certain requirements in story mode, you can unlock secret characters in the multiplayer mode. the multiplayer mode is also pretty good. the voices match the characters too. All in all, this game has great graphics, ok story, and little gameplay. i actually liked the game, but that only lasted about a week or two because i had totally beaten the game by then. if you want to take a chance, buy this game, but i suggest it as a rental because you can totally beat it in two days if you try. hope this has been helpful(it seems to me that the people who designed these characters, also did FFVIII, seem to have lacking games. i really hope they don't mess up FFX!)
excellent game

A lot of fun... that's how I would sum up The Bouncer. The most amazing thing about this game is the graphics. They simple amaze me every time I see them. This is by far the best graphics I've seen on a game yet. Sitting and watching my brother play the game reminded me of watching a movie. Well, not a hit movie, but definately one worth watching. The story could have used a little bit of work.
The sound, however, is not as great. It's not bad by any means, but there is definately no one song that really catches your attention. The music can sometimes make or break a game. It's a good thing that the music in The Bouncer was no worse than it is! The voice acting isn't too bad... but it might get on some people's nerves. I've never really had problems with american voice actors.
The gameplay is a little bit of a problem with this game. If you enjoy hitting random buttons and praying that you win, you'll have no problem with this game. I believe that to be the biggest drawback of this game. From the begining of the game, I just started pounding buttons, and I got about half-way through it. Games aren't supposed to be like that. Of course, I still had fun just beating up on guys. If you're like me, you won't mind the gameplay.
The only other things that really bring this game down are the requirement for PS2 controllers and a PS2 multitap. I'm definately not buying the multitap. I did, however, purchase another PS2 controller. When it comes to multiplayer fun, however, I say it is best to stick with the people who do that best... Nintendo.
I'd also like to say that this game is pretty short. Perhaps renting it would be a better option... but I'd still like to have it in my collection just so that I could beat up on something every now and then. :)
its an alrite game but...

This game could have been a lot better. The graphics are tite and stuff but u cant really interact with the backgrounds. ITs just there fo sho, and the story is pretty lame also. Most of the game is the cut scenes. Ive been playin this game for about 3-4 hours and im done beatin the game with all 3 players. The controls and move are basic and simple and the game is pretty simple too. it reminded me of final fight with better graphics and little more of a diverse story mode. The best part of the game was just fighting people like final fight. other then that it pretty much sucks. due to the games short length, i suggest that u rent this game and beat it over the weekend or somethin.
One of Sqauresoft's best.

This game is a mix between Squaresoft's fighting system used in Ehrgeiz, today's best Cinematic's technoligies, and the great storyline quality from Final Fantasy. This game is definatly worth getting. It has a great replay value. A must for all PS2 owners.
Fun, but not worth it!

I am glad that I rented this game to try it out first. It's pretty much just a 2 hour movie, and you get to play the fight scenes. You get to choose the point of view that you experience the adventure from - thus revealing hidden secrets of the three different characters. Graphics are wonderful, but long and drawn out. If you die during a fight, you have to skipthrough many movie scenes to get back to where you were. The plot is a bit predictable and overdramatic. Don't be fooled: this is not really a "Role Playing Game," you have to actually fight in live action, but you gain levels and special abilities as you go along. Overall: a fun game, but it wasn't even worth renting because I rented it for five days and I beat it in one sitting.
Good for new gamers

This game was highly anticipated and the fact that it has not lived up to its initial expectations (hey, this is a SQUARE game - Final Fantasy!!!) has probably caused it to be bashed unfairly. If you were a fan of final fight or double dragon, this game might be right up your alley. It is definitely built more for a novice gamer than the hardcore crowd. Gameplay is simple and the graphics are incredible - probably the best on the system right now. In "story" mode you join your two friends to take on a group of terrorists and save a girl (very old school). There are only a couple frustrations with the game. First is length - it takes about 1 hour of gameplay (or 3 hours in all with a bunch of cut scenes) to play through the game. Secondly, there is a limit to how much satisfaction you take in you and your 2 buddies beating the daylights out of a single enemy you have surrounded. Thirdly, there is an interesting feature that when you get clocked esp. hard it knocks your controller out of analog mode. This causes numerous occassions where you get beat up while lying around. You do get used to it eventually but... Finally, the gameplay itself is pretty repetitive. The Bouncer walks a strange line. If it wasnt for the graphics, the interesting story and the old school gameplay I would probably give it a 1. On the other hand, if it wasnt for the repetitive nature of the game, mediocre characters and the lack of options/replay value the game would be a 5. Rarely has a game had such high highs and low lows. In the end it is a solid game for newbies to check out their PS2s with.
Rent it.

I read that this game was really short and it was. Shorter than I even anticipated, actually. I rented it and beat it within an hour & a half. Also, I only died like 2 or 3 times..so it's really easy. You can get through the game just running around hitting one button (use triangle to punch). It takes absolutely no skill to beat this game. OK, now that I've basically trashed it, I'll say what's good about it. The graphics are great. Without a doubt the graphics are some of the best I've seen in a video game. However, just having good graphics doesn't make a game good. Zelda 1 has horrible graphics and I still consider that one of the best games ever. Anyway, the game reminds me a lot of "Final Fight" that was in the arcades years ago. Picture that game with better graphics and it being a lot easier to beat. Then throw in some movies every other minute. That's another thing I don't like. If I wanted to watch a movie, I'd do exactly that. When I playing a game, I want to play it. This game is basically fight 3 guys, watch a movie, fight 3 guys, watch a movie, over and over again til you beat it in less than an hour and a half. Anyways, definitely rent this game before you buy it.
