Totally Frightening

When I got Silent Hill for Playstation, I knew I was going to like it, but I didn't expect it to be so scary! The opening was really cool. It got the scariest when I got to the school and little zombie children were chasing me around with knifes.

I played this game with the lights off and I slept with the lights on. This game is about a normal man named Harry, who is looking for his missing daugther Cheryl in a town called Silent Hill I think that this game is not for the queasy at heart, this game contains scenes of violent images and has a lot of jumpy parts.

Unlike Resident Evil, which I do love too, the control are not awful, and Harry is just a regular guy, with no experience with a gun, and he has no idea what is going on, which makes it 10 times scarier than ANY Resident Evil game. I think if you want a game as close to a horror movie as possible, this is the game for you. Go buy it when you can.

Stuff of Nightmares

There are many excellent survival horror games on the market, but there are very few games as disturbing as Silent Hill. Whilst playing, there are moments when you will be completely freaked out by the bizarre and nightmarish things that are happening to your character Harry Mason, as the game charts his search for his missing daughter, lost after a car accident in the deserted town of Silent Hill. Don't expect an easy time in this game, the town is filled with horrific beasts and apparitions, which will chase and attack you. As in most games of this nature, you're aim is to explore the eerie town and delve deeper into its secrets by solving puzzles (usually morbid or goulish in nature!) and collect ammunition and weapons to help you survive the onslaught. But even during the quiet moments, the sense of dread is so realistic that you will be completely drawn in to the game. The story is bizarre to say the least, and often very distressing. Even the "best ending" to the game (there are several) is downbeat and elegiac. It might sound like I am exaggerating about things here, but I can clearly remember several sections of the game when there was nothing to do but panic, a feeling that no other game has since produced. Some events in the game are completely surreal, with strange noises and phantom figures appearing with no explanation, the result being that playing Silent Hill is like living inside someone's nightmare. This game should be experienced by everyone brave enough to take the challenge.

Shadows will move with no explanation

The off-season's always dead in the lakeside resort town of Silent Hill, but not THIS dead. It seems that the entire town is deserted except for Harry Mason, a distraught motorist in search of his missing daughter, and Cybil Bennet, a beutiful police officer from a neighboring community dispatched to Silent Hill to discover why all communication from the sleepy resort town has ceased. Where has everyone gone? Is the small, shadowy figure that constanly eludes Harry his daugher, Cheryl? If so, why does she run from him? Bracing himself against the winter chill, Harry sets off into the unnaturally thick fog to investigate..

REMEMBER: You'll get scared with this game, you won't sleep at night.. Be sure before buying this

I was a relative chill game virgin until I played this game.
I remember sitting in the dark of my room with my portable telly hooked up and a blanket over my head.
I thought I was ready, I thought I had come well prepared.
Mist engulfed me - I think I have been lost ever since.
Devil dogs - alternate worlds, an unborn heathen God - chaos.
Beautifully made and timeless - no wonder the movie gurus have nicked it for the big screen.
Atmosphere in abundance - crippled corpses and radio interference.
There are hours of despair waiting here for you and a sense of time well spent - I enjoyed every moment, my heart has never been the same!

You WILL buy it!

This game simply rules. The characters, the plot, everything melts together into one concentrated, spine-tingling, pure horror. Sometimes I even don't want to play it because it's so scary! But I gulp and slam the disc in my Playstation. The main character, Harry Mason, is just a normal person like you and me, not a military weapons expert, so he can't shoot very well. This game is very realistic. This game finally has NORMAL weapons. I mean, in RE, where the heck are you gonna find a bazooka or a machine gun in a normal city? In SH, you can find an arsenal of pistols, shotguns, rifles, just normal weapons your dad has. The plot is really good. Play it in the dark, in the light, wherever you are! Beware, this game has disturbing images, just like the pre-game screen says. Blood, blood, Satanist cults, and blood corpses infest this game. For example, open up a bathroom stall and you might find a hanging, skinless, inside-out corpse! But wait, what's under it? A shotgun! A little bravery in this game can get you far. If you're looking for psychological terror, don't answer the phone, don't dump bodies in the lake, for god sakes, BRING A CELL PHONE WHEN YOU GET LOST IN THE WOODS, and then buy this game. $20 for giving you nightmares and sleeping with the lights on is worth it.

I loved it, (Well most of it)

Was it scary? Yes it had some tense moments. It also had some slow moments. I don't expect a firefight around every corner; but there were times when I spent several minutes just running around the streets. If you want a non stop shoot em up, this is not your game. If you get frustrated easy, this is not your game. I only gave four stars because of the relentless empty hallways and locked doors. But, if you want to be absorbed into the atmoshere and feel like a characture in a horror movie, this is well worth your time. (The fog, snow and distant sirens were very effective) There are many riddles to solve; and it will take time. But the overall story line is very engrossing. Its true, you will be remembering charactures like Sybil and Lisa for a long time (especially Sybil). The story, the charactures and the overall atmoshere is what makes this game, not the action. I have played all the games mentioned above and below (includind different endings). I feel sorry for those who put it down and quit so soon.

Brilliant and Chilling

Oh my god, this game was scary! The designers did a brilliant job in setting up a sort of drowning, oppressive atmosphere of fear and darkness. I played this game with the lights off, and couldn't get to sleep until I turned the lights on that night!

The graphics, while a bit grainy, support the dreamlike state of this game. The lighting effects used were simply superb.

And the sound is the clincher. There isn't any real music to speak of, just the background sounds of a nightmare world. This even furthers the creeping dark that pervades every scene in this game.

The plot, while confusing, is very intricate and extremely brilliant. I asked an English grad student to play this game once, and we talked about the story...there are so many complex layers, it could easily the plot of a well written horror novel.

I loved it!

The scariest game I've ever played! This game has what Resident Evil lacks. Good atmosphere! Ok Resident Evil give you the occasional shock but in Silent Hill, the surroundings are so eerie and dark that you're scared to go around a corner. Also Silent Hill is much more realistic than the Resident Evil series because in the Resident Evil games it is always too bright. From your first meeting with deformed babies with knives to possesed nurses in a hell hospital.

This is quite possibly the most creepiest game ever! Well, it is the most creepiest I have ever played.. The ultra-realistic graphics, amazing CG sequences, spooky ooky musick, and overall feeling to this is truly *evil*! I have played this many many times, and it never gets boring.. and plus, it has great re-play value, not to mention the mega-kool *Alien* ending! ^_^ This is a must for all hardcore gamers..Pros: -Realistic grapics- Creepy musick- Great replay value- Great storylineCons:- NONE!

My favorite game

I absolutely love this game. The only thing about it that dissapoints me is the fact that many people have never heard of it! They start talking about survival horror, and as soon as I mention Silent Hill they go "Huh?" To say the least, this game chilled (and still chills) me to the bone!

I literally cannot play this game alone. I have to have someone else in the room, then I pretend like am enjoying blowing zombie-nurses heads off, but in actuallity, I am pretending not to be absolutely terrified.

This game is so addictive and persuading, that when I showed my friend the game, he bought it the next day, He (and his parents) loved it!

Overall the best thing is the storyline. I've seen Scream, I know what you did..., and lots of other horror movies, but none can top the excitement and intrigue of Silent Hill. After playing the game, I still had questions about the story, so I searched day and night till I found a Silent Hill complete story assessment. It was, like, 50 pages long. It took me hours to read. For my purposes, It was a horror novel.

Just buy the game allready! Sheesh. You'd think I can just sit and praise it all day!
