Silent Hill is the first horrer game i've ever played, and it's great! The music that is played the entire time you play is creepy. It fits the game and the sceanery very well. The gore makes it that much more creepy. The entire time you are playing you wonder "what could have happened here, and how long ago did it happen, and how did the people in this town die."This is one of the best games i've ever played.as well as one of the best done games i've ever played. If your going to buy something here.Buy Silent Hill.

When I first played this game, I thought it would be just your typical "shoot as many monsters as you can" game. Oh how wrong I was. I quickly got drawn into the plot, and my brain got a workout from the puzzles that are placed in each stage of the game. And this game gets bonus points for being actually scary...I've never even come close to being scared by a mere video game, but this one made me stay up an extra few hours the first night I played it.
this scared the hell out of me

this amazing example of the horror Konami can and will produce in the future it ads the scariest stuff that was left out of resident evil and explores other dimentions and levels of sanity every part of the atmosphere has something that adds to your fear of viewing the next fmv sequence or turning a corner silent defenitely oputs all the horror it can into the 1 cd.

Silent hill has got to be one of the best horror games ever. The weapons are really good. Here are some of the best weapons chainsaw and jackhammer. The only problem is its not long enough.
Creepy but not gory

Silent Hill was a fun game and not overly long. The anticipation of the monsters sneaking up on you was worse than the monsters themselves. I highly recommend this game if you enjoy suspense and chills rather than blood and gore like Resident Evil. The dialogue was a bit silly and the big monsters were not very scary but the general uneasy feeling you have as you explore the game was exciting. There is such a feeling of relief after you complete anything in the alternate universe and it is daylight again. I wish the endings made more sense but it was still worth my time.

With creepy action games mimicing the RE genrea, because Capcoms success is all in it's own right, it was a breath of freshness when I found Silent Hill. Not only did Konami create a game that was magnificently eerie, but they blended so much into a game that you could play more than once. The way Silent Hill plucked their plot from just about ever great horror and science fiction writer, and blended it with hints of the occult, creating a story of absolute intrigue and suspense was amazing. They did their research when developing Silent Hill, and so few games can provoke your mind. But it was also exciting, and scary. Horror games aren't that big, yet Silent Hill made a cross over that was interesting. The perplexing puzzles and story draw you in, and the amazing CGM keep you in your seat playing. There are some draw backs, like the reletave short play time, but the replay value is emense, because they add things that you couldn't get each time you play, depending on how well you do. Play Silent Hill with the lights on, it's really that good.

A lot's been said about this game's abilities to shock, terrify, and creep out most anyone who's played it. What hasn't been mentioned - at least not that I've seen - is that this game has the best story of any video game I've ever played. It's smart, immersive, suspenseful, mysterious, and open to multiple readings. The closest thing I can think of is a David Lynch film, and the fact that so many things are left open and unresolved only adds to the game's power and mystery. The characters are well-drawn and sympathetic, the plot twists and turns in unexpected yet convincing ways, the music's wonderfully dissonant...all in all, a truly breath-taking experience, and the best example of interactive narrative that I've ever seen.

Silent Hill is just one in a long line of survival horror games. Res 1, 2 and 3, Dino Crisis etc. all focus on people stuck in a confined area with various monsters. The difference with Silent Hill is that this game is absolutely terrifying. Whereas in the other games in this genre provoke scares by creating sudden shocks (crows coming through windows, dogs coming through windows...) Silent Hill is atmospheric horror. As hero Harry Mason, you are frequently thrown into darkened buildings with little more than a tiny flashlight on your jacket. Thus, you can never see more than a few feet ahead, and often run into unseen monsters. The gamemakers add unnecessary elements designed specifically to freak you out. You walk into a room, and find headless dolls littered about. You discover a crucified body in the toilets. You receive an emotional phone call from your missing daughter. All this serves to disturb you greatly. Combined with the in-jokes (all the streets are named after sci-fi/horror writers; the teachers listed in the school are the members of Sonic Youth!) this makes one fantastic game.
Freaky!

This is one amazing game! It feels like a more adult version of Resident Evil (RE had a more Teen vibe while Silent Hill is very much an Adult game). The story alone is amazing, plus the creators know how to make a chilling enviroment. The lighting and the sound effects are freaky.
The main draw back is that the game is VERY gory. I am not talking like RE B-movie gore, but like Hellraiser-people without skin/crucified gore. Now while it does add to the enviroment it also makes it very hard to sit through parts of this game. Actually one part made me so sick (it is when you have to get the shotgun from the bathroom stall in the future school). They really didn't have to do that!
Otherwise this game is great. Although a little like RE, the feel of this game is darker and more mature. There is less action movie explosions and more horror movie moments (not teen slasher but like Argento horror). A must!
