5 STARS!?!?!?!?!? This game needs atleast 90,000,000,000,000,... well, u get the idea. this game is amazing. some of the best graphics for psx. you can hug walls, destract guards, snipe infentry, hide under cardboard boxes (fun stuff), fight tanks, a helicopter and even well, im not giving it away. its a great spy game, and u can still kik a little as... butt every once in a while. this game has several different endings and a prize for each of them. and when u beat it, make sure to listen to end of the credits... ;)

This is a great game and i really enjoyed it! It has a great storyline and its really challenging and has alot of cool scenes. It will take awhile to beat with the two disks but it is worth getting it. Trust me you won't regret it.

done like a spy drama
can go in 1st person veiw
a good portion of bosses are hand to hand combat for fighting fans
a story of betrayl death and deception
multible endings
other games than story mode
you have communicater
high replay value
Cons:
some other characters in the story get repetative
might affend gulf war veterans

I was introduced to MGS through a demo disk I had that came with my Playstation that I got in '98. Now I have a PS2 and I'm hooked on MGS2...BUT, this game is still more...well, I dunno how to explain it but its a lot longer and its kinda hard to understand the first time you play it but its fun. I learned more things from this game than what I learned in kindergarden! There are tons of different weapons including the SOCOM, Nikita missle launcher, granades, stun granades, and the FAMAS. There are also tons of cool items like the thermal goggles, rations, bandanna, cigarettes(you can smoke 'em), gas mask, and the ultimate one: STEALTH CLOAK (makes you invisible). The stealth cloak is hard to get without a gameshark so I'd advise you to get one if you want the best out of the game. And if you have the stealth cloak and get to the NDF (nuclear dissposal facility) go to the bathroom the use the stealth cloak. Wait for a guard to walk in and start peeing. Plant C4 under him and bye bye.

Well, the first time i heard of this game i thought it to be stupid. Then it was like when a three-year-old kid smacked by a bolder, when I played it and boy was i wrong!The plot, characters, and the whole feeling of the game is great. That is really all that counts, i mean it was sad to see Meryle go.. :'( . But then there is that humor to get your mind off the stress of the game then only to get thrown into a heated boss battle. Geez, i think all this game's creator does (Hideo Kojama is the creator by the way) is go home and write metal gear stories at night. This may be a little short but it don't matah!! Get this game!!!!!

The first truely cinematic game

Real time cut scennes, something that was practically unheard of in the day of Metal Gear Solid, and while the lips annoyingly refused to move the camera work was epic, sweeping, dynamic, and everything an action flick should be. Metal Gear Solid was indeed a revolutionary title and the first video game that I played with grade AAA voice acting. (Of course I hadn't played Legacy of Kain at that point.) The directing in this game is its biggest accomplishment. Hideo Kojima needs to do movies. If movies these days could be even half this good I'd be less likely to complain so much. This is another add to my "I wish they'd remake it for GCN."

Metal Gear Solid is Awesome

Metal Gear Solid was directed by Hideo Kajima [I think that is how to spell it?]
He made MGS more of an experience than just a game. You feel like your in the greatest action movie of all time, wile you playing it.
I won't spoil anything for you, because the story is a big part in what makes this the best game of all time.
As well as an awesome story this game also has realistic characters. Some of witch are freaken cool, Like Liquid Snake, he's sort of Solid Snake's rival, And Raven heýs vary cool.
This game invented the Stealth genre, and set a new standard for a gaming experience.
If your reading this review with cash in your pocket, and your wondering 'should I buy it?' Than you are already missing out on the best game you'll every play.

On another note: Metal Gear Solid 2 has come out. And though the game play has improved, MGS2 doesn't quite live up to the first one. The idea of living out the coolest movie ever is lost in the second Metal Gear Solid.

Anyway back to MGS.

I am extremely thankful that this is now on Greatest Hits, becoase my original copy is so over used and beat up that it doesn't work anymore. This time I'll buy several copies. And if you can also... Then snatch them up before someone else does.

after playing mgs2 how much the plant level was a simulation... i orriginally bought theses games for my grandson but woundup keeping them for myself. anyway this game is alot of fun, and i hate guns and violance.

This is probably one of the best PlayStation One games there is. This has the best storyline of all, again the characters are cool,the music is okay, and the action kind of blows. What I mean is that unlike MGS2, you can't switch to first-person mode and use your gun, and Revolver Ocelot is kind of lame to fight ( chasing someone in circles is not my idea of an exciting gunfight.) and you can't zoom in or out when using the sniper rifle, also can't use it while standing. Still, it is a good game, but the sequel is better. Not a bad game,but could have been improved.
