this game rocks. unlike your run-of-the-mill action game, where:

you walk into a room

bang bang

either you kill all the enemies or you die

in Metal Gear: Solid, you depend on stealth(good thing too, considering you start off with no weapons)to get past.

you interact with allies, banter, and do alot more-for instance, in one level, you can ricochet bullets off the walls into enemies- with many, many things to do.

***tip:when using the stealth suit, punch a guard and watch the reaction***

one of the best games of all time

played this game a lot, maybe too much, sort of have an alter ego now but that is everyone elses problem, all beware i am snake lol, you need to put it up for a little while when you start having dreams though for the sake of society

You are Solid Snake master of stealth as you try disarm a nuclear weapon Metal Gear Rex, and also to rescue the DARPA chief and the Armstec president. in the beginning of the game you don't know much
as you fight against the genome army. I highly recomend this game. The Storyline is great and you can't take your eyes off the TV (I wish Books were like that) The music is awesome and the graphics are great to. the controls are easy after you get used to it, and you'll love your new hero solid snake. A great game [for the price].

I rented Metal Gear Solid at a movie store once, and couldn't put it down. I just had to buy it. I returned it to the movie store, and as soon as I did, went shopping and bought MGS. It left a mark on my heart. Tobad in MGSII they didnt use the same orcrastra that did MGS1 but they all are good games. MGS is the BEST game every created. I recommend buying it!

I borrowed this game from a friend and absolutely loved it. I had to buy it. this is just one of those games you have to have. Totally worth the $20.

I got this game a few years ago and was unsure of it for a while. For me, the controls where kind of hard to figure out since I only had a few other games at the time. I also thought it was hard in general.
But then I figured out all the controls, and once I figured out what I was doing, I loved it.
The main character who you play as is Solid Snake from the old Nintendo games: Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2. (Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2 are not re-makes of them)
Solid Snake is a tough, ruthless guy who isn't afrid to take someone down. Your arch-nemises is Liquid Snake along with his main henchmen: Revolver Ocelot, Sniper Wolf, Raven, and Psycho Mantis.
You can keep in touch with other characters who help you throughout the game on a "codec". Two characters that are actually at your side during the game are Meyrl and Otocan.
Anyway, the plot is very detailed and there was obviously a lot of thought put into it.
The graphics aren't that great now, but at the time I bought it I thought they where pretty good. But it was made a few years ago, so of course the graphics were not as good then.
If you had a Nintendo and owned Metal Gear and or Metal Gear 2, I highly recomend playing this.

This game was made a greatest hits game for a reason. It
has everything from suspense to romance. They game has two
possible endings which makes the replay value very high.
The games VR missions also keep people occupied. Im my
personal opinion MGS was better then its predeccessor. MGS
is longer, has more gameplay, and a better environment. I
MGS2 has amazing graphics and a storyline that will amaze
you surprise you and confuse. MGS has better character
developement, much more of snake and overall better gameplay
If you like action games then this is the type of game for u

If you own a PSX then you have to own MGS

MGS is the best action game ever made. Cool weapons, a compelling story, great graphics for it's time, and some top notch voice acting make this a classic that everyone should own. If you don't own Metal Gear Solid you can't call yourself a gamer.

Metal Gear Solid is probably one of the most sucessful Konami games. In this game you will find even in the "easy" mode you must use strategy to win. Also there is so many surprises. You must think ahead. This game is great. Though I do think once you beat it 2-3 times the game gets boring. Also on this game there is VR Training. It is where Konami got the idea for the Metal Gear Solid game "VR Missions." So that is a plus having the VR Traing on the game. You will find that the VR training is adicting. Once you start you will wan to finish. Once you finish the VR Training it will make the actual game easier, because the VR Training teaches you how the terrorists work. This game also has a great story behind it. Solid Snake's(you) brother, Liquid Snake, has a nuclear weapon ready to launch if the president doesn't meet his demands. You must expect the unexpected.
