It's a great game

I bought this game 4 days ago, and I haven't stopped playing. It's a great game, the graphics are incredible, the music is fantastic, the plot is cool, but the only problem of this game, besides a couple of bugs (sometimes Lara has a brown stick instead of a leg) is the control, when I'm in the menu, sometimes I take 3 minutes to choose, the health, weapons, save game, load etc. Besides that I think it's a must have if you're a TR fan and if you like great graphics and the best video games.

Angel of darkness is correct

This game is the angel of darkness - THe control system is impossible - The menu screens are ridiculous and bulky to manage - I have played all the tomb raider games - This one is near to unplayable - This thing went straight to EBAY - save your money for something good - THE TR people need to do something fresh with this character like send her to space or something - jeez - the franchise is getting old and stale due to lack of innovation and change.

My initial evaluation is "disappointing"...

I'm a die-hard TombRaider fan. I pre-ordered AOD way back in August of last year. It finally came today and I immediately installed it. I've been playing it for about 5 hours now. The game locked up my computer about 10 times already... Lara doesn't move smoothly as in the previous TombRaider series. She's a bit choppy and slow to react. She runs incredibly slow compared with previous TombRaider games. There's apparently a bug whenever she speaks to characters in the game because, nearly every person I speak with never finishes their conversation before the computer locks up and I have to shut it down and reboot. Keep in mind, that I have a very powerful computer, designed specifically for gaming. This shouldn't happen. And for you folks who have Windows XP; Home Edition, that's what I'm using. Also, for those of you who haven't ordered the game yet, I would suggest that you wait for the patches to come out first. I'm sure EIDOS is going to have to put out patches to correct these problems... And the main difference I've seen so far with this game as opposed to the previous TombRaider games, is that so far, Lara hasn't fired a single shot. No fights, no action. Just running, hiding and stealth. Boring... As I said, I've only played for about 5 hours now and usually the TombRaider games take thousands of hours to finish. So, hopefully, there will be some action here, someplace... I won't make any permanent judgements yet. But thus far, I'm not very happy with this game. Of her new moves, she can climb into windows, she can sneak up behind a guard like in Splinter Cell, and grab and punch the guy out. That's the most action I've seen so far... And yes, you CAN save the game anytime, except during cut scenes... So, if you get the game, remember to hit F5 often, especially if your computer locks up as mine did/does. Since I pre-ordered the game, I got the DVD free. It has a lot of cut scenes from all the previous TombRaider games, which I was delighted to see. But, they're so dark you can barely see what's going on... Still, when I played the earlier games, I never knew what was going on during the cut scenes because it was very choppy on my old computer. Comparing this game so far, with other games that came out this year, I'd have to say Steel Tide and Splinter Cell, as well as Sum of All Fears (a great game)thus far, are better... Sad, but true... I'll write another eval once I get further into the game... If I can tolerate all the lock ups...

Robocop dressed like Lara Croft

I was expecting Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness since last year, with a similar performance as Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb, but now when I receive the game, I saw this little girl that walks like with an umbrella inside of her pants.

The graphics and sound are great, but Lara rotates like a robot and when I try to make her run, she doesn't agree with me and moves extremely slowly.

I have a 2MHz PC with 500Megas RAM and GeForce4 Graphic Card, and there is no possibility that only this game needs to practice Ctrl-Alt-Del each 15 minutes in order to play it.

I'll find the way to sell my game and suggest Eidos to make a research in order to define how many of the customers are really satisfied with this game and determine if a refund to the customers is the better way to maintain the good image of Eidos until today.

It's a shame.

STOP. We waited 8 months for THIS ?

I was so looking forward to Tomb Raider: AOD coming out in November 15th 2002. Then it got delayed, then delayed again, and again, and again, and again. When it finally came out (8 MONTHS LATER) I was really excited. I put the game in my PS2. And was really shocked at how bad this game was. I was expecting something incredible. But no. Lara moves like a robot, it is very difficult to control her, loads of bugs and its boring. No fun. I am a huge Tomb Raider fan and have played them all. But I think this one might be making a trip back to the shop for a refund. However, the graphics are incredible (best i've seen in any game), lara looks amazing and the music is great. But overall I am very dissapointed. EIDOS, get it right next time.

Do not purchase this game!

Let me give you some advice that will keep you from pulling your hair straight out of your scalp... stay away from this game. Don't take just my word for it... alot of folks here feel the same way. Do not listen to those that tell you that all this game needs is a killer machine to run. Believe me, I have a good machine and the controls are still awful! You get tired of yelling at Lara, telling here to get her butt up them stairs! People around you will think your nuts for screaming at the screen. Laura has never looked better, that is true. The graphics on this game are amazing. It's sure nice to look at, that is for sure. But, even if had a ghost of a chance of making Laura go were you wante her to go, you'd still have to deal with bugs, freezes, Laura walking on air, and attrocious angels. Do yourself a favor... stay away.

Don't waste your money

I bought this game at a reduced price and still feel like I got ripped off. The controls in the PC version are an absolute nightmare and make what could have otherwise been a decent game horrible. Sometimes you feel like you have no control whatsoever. Good thing two successful movies have been made about this game otherwise EIDOS would've been out of business with this horrendous offering. In fact I'll think twice before purchasing anything with the EIDOS name or CORE DESIGN name attached to it.

Do Not Buy This Game

Inspite of the two patches offered by Eidos the game crashed very often. Lara's movements are hard to control and choppy in stairwells. You will be nothing but disappointed if you spend your hard earned money on this game.

Best Tomb Raider ever!

When I first got this game I was disapointed. Both with the grafics and the game play. But I got a new grafics card and it looked amazing! I had no idea that a small update would make it look so good! And the controls are confusing at first, but within an hour they're almost second nature. The story is very involving, and the characters are cool. The enimy in this TR is a perfect villian! The levels are well detailed, and I only got stuck twice in the game through the whole time I played it. But I was able to get past those hard spots in the levels.
The music is awesome in this game, it even has a sound track!
This, the first tomb Raider (Classic) and the fourth tomb raider are the best. But TR6 is probibly THE best tomb raider ever! It's very fun! The grafics reminded me of Enter The Matrix, but the cutsceens in tomb raider are much better. And some levels reminded me a bit of Resident Evil. I think that any fan and non-Tomb raider fan, should get this game!!! It's awesome!!!! :D

There are ups and downs to this game. You decide:

Glitchs/bugs that you'll find: If you don't find bugs in games a problem then you'll be able to play this game and be happy with it. If bugs bother you alot avoid this game.
Diffrent computers will handle this game in diffrent ways. You'll probibly get at least one or more of the following when you play:

-Some times you fall through the world, this mainly happens in Paris.
-when you turn around really quick or get too close to the camera you'll see a flash of the inside of Lara's head (Or if your playing Kurtis the same thing will happen).
- When in Prague sometimes Lara's leg or hips will strech and dissapear in some angles. This only happens a few times.
- As Kurtis you have one gun, but when you punch sometimes his glave will flash into his hands for about 2 seconds. But you can never use it.
- The sound effect for the shot gun won't work. (Patch will fix this)
- The FMV's disapears.

Frusterating things:
-You have to have goofy power ups. Basicly Lara is not strong enough to do much anything, so she'll move a box and say her chessy one liner "I feel stronger now". After that she can open a door or something.
-Some area's are hard to get past, like trying to take the painting out of a statues's hand while being attacked endlessly. It took me 5 hours to get past that and I've only gotten it to work once.
-Another chessy thing is that you often have to fight two bosses in a row. Boaz mutant 2 and then right after that Boaz mutant 3. And the dumb thing about that is you're character get's stabed and you just leave him there and got back to Lara. Fighting two more bosses in a row happens again at the end of TR6 too.

The really cool things:
-The story line is involving and you get sucked into it and want to find out more.
- The lip sync is perfect.
- It can be emotionaly grabing at times, very cinimatic. It's like playing a movie!
-The motion it great, some games they don't look right when they walk. This game has great motion.
-Characters are good, Lara and Kurtis are the main two, and the bad guys a really evil and you want to defeat them.
- The textures and the whole world you play in looks beyond awesome. Great lighting too.
- Good gameplay and fun.

Fun. But not what it could so easily have been.

The first thing I noticed about this game (compared to other Tomb Raiders) is the absence of a training level. Instead they've made the training part of the game story itself. You have to do certain physical tasks before you can procede. Nice idea, but completely implausible and irritating. I mean... come on, how many people do you know who can gain that much muscle strength in 10 seconds simply by pushing a box? The Lara moves are a bit on the stiff side. It's an ordeal trying to run from enemies in this game. Not that it matters much, there isn't many enemies in the game. It's more about puzzle solving than anything.
Other than that, the game itself plays brilliantly. There's a story here that was very well thought out. The levels, while limited in scope by their locations (Paris and Prague- Not the most exotic locations for a great adventure), are mapped out nicly and well detailed and actually look like the cities they're meant to be. The twist ending was good, if a bit too predictable- Kurtis isn't axactly a trustworthy looking character, is he? Thats another thing: Once I knew who Kurtis really was, it left me wondering why he was such a slow mover with so few acrobatic skills during gameplay. You'd think he'd able to kill that 'Proto' in a heartbeat. And why couldn't I use that Ninja-style disk to kill things?
But my biggest complaint is with the bugs. It seems rushed. They could have at least checked for missing textures before releasing the game on the market. Then there's the occasional walk through the walls problem. And an array of other problems that come up.
In short: Great idea, great levels, but badly executed.
