Homeworld 2

4 Rating: 4, Useful: 1 / 2

This impressive sequel to homeworld and homeworld:cataclysm shares the innovative game play that no other game can claim. With its new graphics and sounds and remade story, this game far bye stands out as one of a kind. All that are familiar with its predicesors will easily get back into the game play as not many features have changed. Ships and races seemed balanced enough as you go through the game trying to save your race once again. Overall, homeoworld two is just as good if not better then the previous 2, so as it stands its a great purchase.

Tough, but fun

I enjoyed this game a lot for many reasons, not the least of which is that it was quite difficult. I have to admit that it's been a while since I've played it so my review isn't going to be hugely detailed.
I know that some people might not enjoy the difficulty levels of this game, it does get very hard in some places, but for myself I enjoy difficulty. So many games lately have been a breeze, you sit down, you play, you win. That's it, you never have the chance to actually have to think, or face defeat.
The important thing to know, which will help a lot for those people who have a lot of trouble with this game, is that proper fleet composition is essential. I won't go into detail here, if you want to get some pointers on it, go to a place like [...] or something and read some of the FAQ's and walkthroughs, but with proper fleet composition, you will breeze through some missions that would otherwise be unplayable.
The storyline is interesting, though a bit odd and the end was a little unsatisfying, though the cutscenes are generally satisfying.
The graphics are wonderful, smooth and clean, the ship models are gorgeous and the weapons effects are also very nice. I enjoy zooming in all the way and watching the battles from up close and seeing all the explosions and everything.
Sound is pretty good, though nothing hugely special, it definately compliments the rest of the game well.
I think the game really stands out in the skirmish and multiplayer modes though. Where all of the options are available to you and you are able to use the whole map to your advantage, although the computer AI's don't use the Z axis in their strategy, which is unfortunate because it leaves them at a fairly big disadvantage as it is very easy to flank them from above or below.
Anyway, overall the game is quite good, a definate improvement over the original (which I liked a lot as well) in many ways. I think the gameplay was a bit better on the first one, (mission designs and AI design). I would certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys RTS games, and especially those who like space based RTS.

I love both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 - the game format is excellent, controls generally excellent, and the whole style of the game is simply superb.

My only gripe about Homeworld 2 was that it ended too quickly and without leaving me feeling that challenged, I finished most missions on first or second attempt, I think only one frustrated me and took over 10 attempts, but most were less than 3.

The final mission was interesting, but overall the variety in the first version was slightly stronger, and I had a real feeling in the first one of fighting for survival, whereas in the second although I sometimes took heavy losses and sometimes only just made it, I was confident most of the time and didn't have the feeling of fighting so hard.

Getting the balance right is difficult as it appears lots of people struggled with the second version. I can only guess that most of them were American (lol, I will burn for that I guess, but seriously... :)).

When I first played HW1, it set the standard of all strategy games for me. If HW2 is as good as HW1 I am in for a GOOD time.
HW1 was oft copied, never bettered. Hours of thought, fighting and fun.

Homeworld 2 a major jaw-dropper

You know, alot of people usually say a sequal, whether for a game or a movie or something else, is rarely as good as the first.Well my friends, I think we're gonna prove that wrong.

The first Homeworld was a beautiful spectacle, taking imagination, masterful graphics, and a complete immersion into the Homeworld Universe. On level 3,As you play out the level, seeing that first cryo tray full of over 100,000 people on board be murdered, I almost cried. Then, with burning hatred and revenge, See the kushan people chase after the fleet that massecred their home and their people, I cheered for them.

If Homeworld 2 can take us as deep into the video game as the original, watchout people, we got Homeworld zombies on the loose!

Phenomenal

Great game.

I didn't play the first Homeworld - thought it was too much of an insane clickfest. The interface and management enhancements in Homeworld 2 are incredible, to say the least with the ability to pause and issue orders tops among them.

The story is great, and voice acting superb. The fact that the story unfolds during, and not just between missions makes you feel like you're really taking part in it. This game goes to show you don't need high-budget flashy cutscenes to tell a story.

Note: This game is pretty darn difficult. As a matter of fact, so difficult that if you aren't absolutely sold on the premise, presentation, and story, you might not make it through. You have been warned!

Homeworld 2 - Collector Review

I collect RTS games, and this is a must have game. Out of the box the game is challenging, but not too hard. In addition, there are modifications you can download to spice up the game. The game has a good balance between strategy and action, which keeps the interest in playing fairly high. The AI of the computer opponent is okay, which is depicted by a good effort for variation of its tactics.

Once you finish the main story, you can come back and play against the computer or friends. In addition, you can create basic scenarios. This aspect of the game is what makes it interesting to play.

I recommend this game to those who want a challenging game, but also want to have a game that will keep you coming back to play.

Homeworld2 Demo does not live up to the past!

After playing the demo I notice that Homeworld2 Sucks in comparison to Cataclysm or the original Homeworld. They changed the controls for the worst. The AI sucks it seems they removed what made the original so unique in the fact that Tactics were very important. This game has become a C&C Copy. To win all you do is build up a massive fleet and in one big group you crush the other player the question is who builds and collects money the fastest. So unless Relic fixes the AI issue I would wait on this title till you see some real reviews. I could not believe how much they ruined the game! I was just Amazed at the incompetents of Relic or who ever actually created the game.

They should have done more testing with actual gamers!

Good, but not good enough.

Homeworld 2 is surely going to be a great game, but is it good enough?

Sure, it is vastly improved comparing to Homeworld, but the graphics of Homeworld2, from what we saw in prview-build release, isn't good enough, and even out-dated comparing to other 3d games. The blurry textures can be found throughout different sections of the ship models, and the texture itself look like color plattee, gives no sense of material.

The explosion and debris effects is good, but have you noticed that all pieces of debris look exactly the same? The effects are not convincing, either, for a powerful capital ship simplay disappear after it is destroyed, instead of releasing huge radious of destructions as we would have expected. Even a mod from the original Homeworld can do that, and I wonder what make Relic think that the fans won't want to see some realistic explosions.

The removal of fighter formations and refueling of the strike crafts are stupid. Without the limitaion of refueling, fighters will be flying everythere and no one is going to build a single capital ship. Without formation, it is impossible to organize the strike crafts into groups.

Homeworld2 will still be a good game, but it won't be excellent as it should have been.

BEWARE! High system requirements!
