This game brings out the fun of space games, it definitly lives uo to its prequels of Homeworld and Cataclysm

This is an excellent sequel to the other Homeworld games. I found no flaws or problems with the game other than I had to upgrade my TNT2 video card.

Playing a tight game gets in the way of watching

I throughly enjoy this game - its everything a space RTS game should be. The battles can be huge - just in my fleet I might have a over a dozen major capital vessels surrounded by 40-50 fighter, corvette and frigate squadrons providing cover across a map where I have to pay attention to 2-3 fronts at once. My only regret is that in tight situations I find myself stuck at a high-level view managing all the activity when I just want to dive down, attach my view to a single corvette, and watch it careen in between frigates and battlecruisers in a major head-to-head clash.

The ships types are balanced, I feel, a bit more than in the first game - unguarded capital ships can be decimated by a well-time attack by bomber squadrons, and constraints on constuction modules make you plan how to best configure your capital assets. Give this game a try..

HomeWorld 2 is a great space simulation, sci-fi, real time strategy game. It is played in 3D space with spaceships and space objects, such as nebulas, planets and stars in great detail. The graphics are breath-taking and the cutscenes and music truly engulf you into the world of the game. It is truly mesmerizing.
The game is difficult with a steep learning curve, I had to cheat to get through the whole game, but if you are a sci-fi fan, this is a must-buy, must-have.

Totally Awesome

I bought this game for the sole purpose of using the mod, pds(point defense systems), and it totally rocks! talk about eye-candy, watching tracer fire being shot out of every side of a ship. a must buy if you like watching spectacular fighting between capital ships and dogfighters.

Homeworld II

Homeworld was a tough act to follow and although HW II performed admiraly, it didnt compare to the original.
they story dosnt follow the stories from either the HW or Cataclysam. the gameplay is to choped up with the storie and the gameplay is alot more linear than the original. You dont expect the sequel to a best selling game to have fewer ships, more restrictions and apparently inferior tecnology(in gameplay).
The new game engien is great, but the rest of the game needs work. If they would have kept to the original story, made more ships, and had fewer restrictians this game could have been another amazing addition. but as it is, i can see why HWII didnt make a big splash.

Incredibly disappointed...

What in the world have they done to my favourite series!?! Homeworld brought me back to RTS games and never let go! It was an absolute breakthrough in gaming - a new genre altogether. The expansive fully realized 3D environment was (at the time of C&C and Star Trek Armada) ahead of everything else. Cataclysm built on that and made for an excellent sequel (albeit maybe a bit too easy). I've been anticipating this release for the last three years, and frankly, I want that time back.

In short, this game blows. They have only slightly improved the graphics, the sound still sucks, and the gameplay is utter BS - every single mission is an exercise in frustration...not enough RU's to make up a fleet, if there are, you don't have enough time to make up the fleet, if you do, it gets smoked almost immediately in the next board - assuming the damn game doesn't lock up on you or boot you back to the desktop or, my personal fav, does nothing! (i.e. you "pass" the mission, but it doesn't let you move on) Buggy as hell.

IMHO (from an ex-avid Homeworld fan), give this one a miss and pick up a copy of Hegemonia: Legions of Iron. Much, much, much better.

GREAT!

Homeworld 2 is a great game. Simple as that. The graphics are stunning, and the gameplay is sharp.

The graphics are detailed to such a degree that it is actually worth zooming in on battle, (not just for fun) as flames blast out of damaged ships. It's actually easier to judge a ships health from it's seared off armor and internal fires than a health bar!

Gameplay itself is traditional homeworld, with the ability to pan and some other balances. This makes movement on the screen effortless. 3d movement is easy to master, and really gives a sharp tactical feel to the game...

On balance, both sides are equal in power, and they are different enough to be truly separate races. (Not just 3rd tier new unit)

The campaign slowly but surely increases its difficulty as you grow. So while you while you may encounter difficult missions, they aren't over your head. The story is interesting, though I HIGHLY suggest playing Homeworld 1 first.

On Online play, it's just as great. Also, with the plethora of MODS (game modifications) out there you can enhance the already great essence of the game.

Some MODS of note: Star Wars Warlords, a Kadeshi Mod, a Star Trek mod, a Battlestar Galactica Mod, and a Descent Freespace Mod. (Only Star Wars Warlords is a real name. The other MODS are real, but I can't remember their names. [...].

Ultimate RTS

This real time strategy game is excellent because it allows you to get right in with the action. You can select a unit and zoom in so much that it feels like you're riding on back of the ship or you can zoom out to see the entire battle. There are also excellent mods for this game. The most impressive of these mods is the Star Wars one, which is better than the Star Wars: Empires at War game. The only con is that the stand-alone Homeworld 2 is a bit boring and lacking as far as fast paced action goes. However, there are about a dozen mods that make it a fast paced interesting game, and they're all free! Definetly a good buy if you're shopping for a sci-fi RTS.
