Final Fantasy X is supposed to be a role playing game. There is no role playing in this game. You watch about 40 hours of movies and actually control your characters for a couple hours. When you do get to control your characters you can't go anywhere but the few screens that they give you. There is no adventure, no free will, no variation. I've played many RPGs and was really excited to get this game. I could not be more disappointed. If you're looking for an RPG (as opposed to a 40 hour movie) take your money elsewhere.
FFX, a waste of 60 hours.

Ok, let me be the first to say this game is a waste of time. I not only wasted [money] on this game, but I also wasted 60 hours of my life with it. I spent a good 10+ hours TRYING to get the extra "Sidequest" stuff, but only to result with jack to show for it.
I then got tired of all these ridiculous sidequests and just ended up facing Sin. Beating Sin, I viewed the end which isn't very satisfying one bit. WOW, spending another 5 minutes listening to "Suteki Da Na" Which is also very annoying...
Blitzball is fun.....I guess....

I recently borrowed this game from my friend and let him borrow my copy of Suikoden 3 (a great game). I got about 8 hours into this game and then had to quit. The story was bland and unoriginal. Protect the summoner, kill the monster. The graphics were good, but could have been better (Compared to Metroid Prime, these are just ok). The battle system was ok, but the Sphere Grid was a bit much. The voiceovers, oh God the voiceovers, they hardly matched the moving of the mouths. The voice of Wakka was cheesy. Tidus sounded like he was whining the whole time and the script made him sound like an idiot. Yuna sounds like an airhead. Auron sounds too overly dramatic. Seymour's voice hurt my ears. The high point of the game was blitzball, although the music could have varied from time to time instead of the same technoish song in every single match (it gets annoying).
The best in this series are FF 6,7, and 8, although the gameplay in 8 is horrid, the story is great.
Another hit or miss game from Squaresoft.

Well, well...another one from Squaresoft. Seems like they've really been taking extreme, hit-or-miss approaches to this series lately and 10, the lastest in the series, is no exception.
After playing the demo, I was quite impressed with the graphical advances that the PS2 has to offer. People are rendered in real time with incredible facial detail, backgrounds are works of art and movement is almost as fluid as real life. Yet, these are the high points, as I found the rest of the features far less appealing, if not down right irritating.
Voice acting in this game is completely unnecesary and uncalled for. The voices are terribly done and really distract from the gameplay. Characters also speak when completely unnecessary, such as in battle situations, making comments here and there. Square would have done better to leave them out. Just because the technology allows it, doesn't mean that you should use it.
I found the main character to be a bit irratating. Tidus, is a young, goofy, blond, uneducated... beach boy who seems out of place in this game. I really hope that his character grows up over the course of the game. I like the more realistic characters, yet I'm not real sure how I feel about Tetsuya Nomura's designs though...reminds of a bad cross between The Bouncer and FF: The Spirits Within (both disappointments). I hate the way Tidus runs on the map.
The battle system is nice and smooth, although quite a change from the previous FF games. Despite its tactical cheapness, switching in characters during a battle actually appeals to me. I'm hoping that the weapon system is different than FF VIII's. I'm already disappointed by the fact that balls and dolls are used as weapons.....so tacky.
What happened to the overworld?! It just doesn't seem like Final Fantasy without an overworld. Square must have a new way for us to hunt for secret items. Piloting an airship is going to be strange without this feature, but Square has done well like this before (Secret of Mana).
Uematsu, among others, return for the musical score to FF X. I wasn't really impressed with anything, other than the battle theme (it's a nice upbeat and catchy theme), but this is the demo we're talking about here. I hated the demo for FF VIII and then ended actually liking the game, despite it's many flaws.
I have a feeling that the story is either going to make or break this game because the technology involved just isn't enough to make a good RPG these days. (Square, that's a hint)
Judging from what I've seen, I'll give this one a chance, but for you old school FF fans, the radical changes are going to be a shock, some of which you probably aren't going to like. What can I say, things always evolve, whether it is for better or worse. This game is impressive, but the first impression just doesn't drop my jaw like FF VII did when it was first released.
Not great.. not horrible.. just eh..

I waited a long time to buy this game because my brother told me not to waste my money. I'm glad I listened to him. This game was pretty much a bad graphic movie. I would say that the game is 60% short little movies with bad graphics, 10% beautiful graphic movies, and 30% actual game play. I was so frustrated when all I wanted to do was level up, or explore and instead I had to sit there and watch a dumb movie. The main character, Tidus, was so unrealistic as a hero and Yuna, the main female character, said "yes" as her only dialogue about 100 times! Oh my god, they would have a whole movie scene just to have her say yes!! Also, there were long pauses in between speeches... it was really annoying. The game itself was ok. By the end, the bad guy was really easy... i thought he would be more of a challenge. All in all, this game is only average. The story line could have been more thought out, and instead of a twist, it was more like a confusing reality. But an even worse game is FF X-2... Stay away from that one at all cost! The one thing I really loved about this game was the sphere system for gaining skills and abilities. I wish that could be the main way from now on. Looks like FF VII is still my fav FF game.
Mind-numbing waste of time

I have been the largest supporter of all previous Final Fantasy games, and eagerly awaited "X"... however- there is little to no fighting and character build takes no thought and is out of your control. Everything is scripted, and the movie sequences are agonizingly long, although the story is not that bad. BUT, THIS IS NOT A GAME! This is an interactive movie, in which you could close your eyes and just push the "x" button continuously for 36 hours and have the "game" be over. Not worth anyone's time- I am deeply dissapointed.
I really wanted to like this. I really really did.

I am not the best video game reviewer. I dont have hundreds of games, in fact I am very limited. I have played FF7 and 8, I loved seven the most, eight was fine but too depressing IMO. I had seen so many good reviews and heard so many good things about X and seeing that they did a part 2 to X, well I had to buy it (needless to say I got the Playstation 2 this Christmas so like I said, not the biggest video gamer).
I wanted to like X I really did. It had some breathtaking scenes and CGs. Some of the action was inviting. The characters themselves were very interesting. But. There was one anime movie after the next, very little if any character choices to go here there and everywhere. The storyline was so convoluted that I could not make heads or tails of what was going on, not to mention I could not understand what this Sin being was (looked like a mutant whale to me) It was so linear and it was so tight that I got bored easily, very easily. I felt that there were waaayyy too many tutorials. I could not and cannot understand the character evolution dynamics. I dont understand the whole structure even with help from the walkthrough books and what I looked up on the net, maybe its just me, but this game did not fit me at all.
I seriously doubt I will get X-2 now. Oh well. Live and learn!

the most stupid experience system that i has ever seen.
The music is on the boring side and it never reaches the powerfull feel of final fantasy 7.Oh yes theres is also that little irritating thing about final fantasy X you cant decide where you will go next you just have to follow the stupid gameplay and those boring talking scenes.NO this is not Final fantasy ITS NOT!... I want believe it i really want...sob. sob...

This game is the reason why I bought Playstation 2 over GameCube and Xbox. Say hello to the best video game ever made, Final Fantasy X. This isn't just some game. It's an experience. No book or movie can top the joy this game will bring you. This game is art. It's an artistic masterpiece in every sense of the word. This game should win an Academy Award, Grammy, and every other award that has ever been made. The first thing you will notice is the jaw dropping graphics. After you get past that you will notice the heavenly music playing throughout the game. A few hours into the game you will notice how involved you are into the storyline and you'll find yourself actually caring about these characters. The characters are every bit as brilliant as the ones you'll find in the past Final Fantasys. There's no topping this game. Only Square can bring this much joy into your life from a video game. Here's how I rate it out of a perfect 5.0:
Graphics: 5.0
Control: 5.0
Sound: 5.0
Fun Factor: 5.0
