Backyard Baseball is Outstanding

This 2001 version of Humongous Entertainment's popular game is better than the first. This is game design at its best. You can choose players with varying skills, try different strategies, set players at different defensive positions, adjust the lineup before each game, and track one game or a whole season (complete with playoffs). There are a lot of options that change the difficulty level, which makes it fun for a wide age range.

A huge advantage over the original backyard baseball is the choice of over 30 "professionals as kids." Read Amazon reviews of the new 2003 edition to see if you prefer its pro players; I think they're an important buying consideration. Other than the pro players, I recommend drafting Keisha Phillips and Pedro Sanchez for power, Kenny Kawaguchi for pitching, Achmed Khan for overall offense and defense, Stephanie Morgan for infield, and Pete Wheeler for speed--he makes a great lead-off hitter! It's great, great fun, and I recommend it highly.

My five-year old can spend hours on this game if we let him, in one sitting! "Dad, didn't you know that Nomar wears number 5, and Cal Ripken, Jr. doesn't hit as well as, say 'Big Mac.'" If your child loves baseball, or simply wants to learn the game, the players and the teams, this is the game for them. In an enertaining way, kids learn the essence of what makes baseball America's Pastime. I recommend this wholeheartedly.

Backyard Baseball not just for kids 5-12

I work at a computer store where we sell and repair computers. One benifit of my job is while I'm repairing a computer I can play the games on the customer's system. Last week a system came in claiming it had no sound. The sound worked fine so I called the customer and she added it had no sound in a game she recently installed called Backyard Baseball 2001. even though we do not support software or games I went back to her PC and entered into the game to find out that the sound did indeed work. I called her back to explain her PC was fine and ready for pickup. Since my area was slow that day plus the boss was on vacation I sat down and "tested" the game. I was instantly absorbed in the game. The game looks great the gameplay is simple and well paced and above all Backyard Baseball 2001 is fun. After playing the game for a while I logged on..and ordered the game myself. The only flaw I can see is the box it states "for kids 5-12" I am 26 my co-workers range from 28 to 53 and we all loved the game. When the dreaded time came and the customer wanted her PC back I personally took it to her and admitted I was addicted to Backyard Baseball 2001.

It was great!

I like Backyard Baseball 2001 because you get to pick your own teams. I am learning a lot about the game of baseball. I like it also because they have major league baseball players as kids.

We gave this to our 5 year old for Christmas last year. He loves it. He still plays with it. He and his dad are Cardinal fans so he always picks "Big Mac". The game also helped him learn about the other Major League Teams and players. He loves creating his teams. It is also great that the skill level allows you to start at T-Ball and move on to Baseball. We love the player and crowd comments and animation! We highly recommend this game and plan on getting him Backyard Football this year. (He loves playing the Backyard Football Demo that came with his baseball)

My son loves this game, I agree with everyone's review about the great qualities this game offers. However, he would like to play his Dad, and this game doesn't offer a two player option. You can only play the computer or the internet.

This computer game is great. It's great for a gift and it's great to play for all ages. What I like about the game is it gives you choices of how to hit and pitch. You can also choose your favorite players to be on your team, like Mark McGwire.

Take the field as one of your favorite baseball players. There are only 30 pro players such as Mark McGwire, and Ken Griffey Jr. If your favorite player isn't there customize he or she. All of the Backyard kids come back to play to. Pick your favorite team name and play in a 14 game season. Or go online play and play your friends. If you buy this game you will not be let down.
