This game keeps one on their toes and is very involved my kids all love this game and I myself enjoy playing it. There is violence so young kids really should have an adult preview it first. Otherwise very nice game.

An underrated, well-written and fun hybrid

Here's the thing, folks. The main reason Sudeki has been underrated by so many people is that the developer is not Japanese. Lovers of traditional Japanese rpgs are ready to poo all over Sudeki simply because it is the work of a western developer. What they fail to see is that Sudeki is anything other than a traditional rpg, and thus should not be compared to traditional rpgs. Sukeki is a brilliant mix of traditional rpg and action/adventure. It controls like action/adventure and yet features a deep combat system that allows you to switch between four different characters and direct their combat style. While the combat is not turn-based, it is still reminiscent of traditional rpgs because the action slows to bullet time when you change weapons, use an item, or unleash a magical attack. Some strategic planning is required every time you go into a battle because there are so many variables that influence how the battle plays out, as well as its outcome. You have to know your weapons, characters, enemies, spells, and items very well. So you don't have to worry about Sudeki being shallow.

The only blemish on this beautiful gem of a game is that the melee combat controls for Tal and Buki are sluggish and unresponsive. Also, the camera does not work as well as it should for melee combat. Given time and practice, it is possible to overcome these deficiencies, but they should have been ironed out in testing. Most of the time you don't even have to play as your melee fighters. You can play as Elco or Ailish, who do all of their fighting in first-person. In this way you act as kind of a director, watching the action unfold, helping each fighter as they need it, and unleashing Skill Strikes when things get a bit too hairy.

The graphics and animations in Sudeki are top notch. It is clearly one of the best looking Xbox games ever made. Visual effects for magical attacks are heart-breakingly beautiful. The writing and voice acting is high caliber, and the story is quite unique. Do yourself a favor and stop listening to all the voices in the media that tell you what you should and should not like. Give Sudeki a chance and I think you will be rewarded.

This is one of the original Xbox games that shows off the true power of its graphics. Unfortuneately it doesn't work with the Xbox 2, but it is still an awesome game. The storylines is one of the best for an RPG that we have ever played. An all time favorite in our house.

When I first heard the voice acting in this game and realized they were the same people that were used in the game Fable, I thought, well it's been done before in other games until I heard the princess's voice which ended up sounding like an english woman gargling on asphalt (dare I steal a joke from one of my favortie comedian Patton Oswalt), but the other thing I noticed about the princess and the other woman character immediately was the fact that there clothes had that male ballerina effect. In other words you could make all of her body parts as if she were standing there naked. Other then this part that was added that also made me realize why this game got such a high rating from Maxim magazine, I thought the controls of this game were bad.

The fact that it turns into this "interactive" game during fights are annoying since your in first person perspective and have to keep turning around just to see what's hitting you from behind which is annoying and tedious. Plus in this game you can mobbed BIG TIME. If you just happened to be standing next to an intial bunch of enemies, they will ALL come after you. The only things that stopped me from sending this game back was the "visual" entertainment ;-), and the fact that this was one of the few games that I wanted to try for my xbox that I payed 200 dollars for. Other then that, it's not that great of a game, game play wise and story wise.

weak story and poor characters

After reading the Sudeki reviews on Amazon and seeing many 4 to 5 star ratings it persuaded me to obtain a copy. After playing Sudeki I was left thinking just one thought, those Amazon reviews must have been writen Microsoft themselves, no way is Sudeki a 4 to 5 star game. it's a 2 to 3 star game. Reviews a side here some Sudeki facts:

The graphics in Sudeki look good. The movement of the graphics is not so smooth. The sound in Sudeki is ok. The sound in Sudeki is ill fitting, it does not add any atmosphere. The story is weak. The combat system is ill implemented and frustrating to use, it drove me nuts. The voice acting has to be heard to be belived. The voices used in Sudeki are a joke, its almost comical at times. At least thet made me laugh alittle. Sudeki is a nice idea that as far too many short comings.

Over hyped

I picked up Sudeki at a bargain price, thinking I was onto a good thing after reading various magazine reviews. After playing Sudeki for a few hours it didn't really click with me, so it got put in the pile of games to play when I ran out of better ones, and I generally never get to those - there's always Gitaroo Man to zap through again, or a dance mat to jump up and down on, so in reality is a game that's been consigned forever to the gaming shelf, thus saving me the effort of ever having to play it again. Harsh words, sure. What I can say about Sudeki is this: It's another game that over hyped itself, and under-delivered; a western developer attempting to make a Japanese style RPG. Microsoft, seeing it as finally an RPG for the Xbox jumped all over it and declared it the best thing ever, but most people - to quote a useful forum word - found it a bit "meh".

Now with the arrival of the Xbox360 it turns out that the Xbox was not the ideal console choice for RPG lovers like myself. So now what, Playation 3, Nintendos Revolution or chance it again with the new Xbox 360.

Good rental if you never played an RPG

This game is definitely a mixed bag. Nothing is consistent. The characterizations are trite and stereotypical. You will find no memorable moments or feel attached to any of the little puppets you control. Interactions between your characters are limited to barely disguised sexual jokes or useless questions and comments. Oh, and the game is so short you will curse yourself if you bought it.

The graphics for example, are excellent: bright, detailed, and pleasing to the eye. However, the friendly non-player characters look terrible. The playable females are all dressed like harlots with tight, uncomfortable looking bikinis on. Actually, the player character designs are not great, with the exception of Buki, I would say they are horrible, but definitely fitting with the style of the Japanese games Sudeki tries to be.

Sound is also a mixed bag. While most people trash the soundtrack, I thought that it was one of the game's saving points. Acoustic guitars and heavy synths rise in and out on your journey in what seems to be an intentionally forgettable sound. It's like the developers didn't want the music to be distracting. That's cool, but that doesn't explain the uneven voice acting. Faked accents rise and fall throughout the game. The accents in the `light' kingdom are so horrible that you will mash buttons to stop the awful interpretations of Irish/Scottish/British/German/Jamaican/Southern American accents. The exception is Buki, whose voice is actually beautiful to hear and excitingly warrior-like. Her lines really come alive. Another notable voice is Elko's (sometimes broken) German accent only because his lines are fun with that funny voice.

Another problem with the game is the battle system. It is fun, but the lack of a pause function (like Baldur's Gate, where you plan your attacks) makes the combat a simple, stupid, free-for-all, that defies logic. This is not RPG gameplay. It is crappy action. The developers could have learned a lesson from Baldur's Gate or any of the other real-time RPGs out there.

Questions for the developers-> Why do I spend HOURS (very few though... game is too short) developing FOUR CHARACTERS only to be denied use of those characters in the END GAME? And... WHY DOES THE GAME END RIGHT BEFORE IT STARTS?!? Seriously, right when it gets 'good' it stops. Wtf?

Rent it. Mediocre RPG, Good for a couple of hours of play. If you play RPGs and are an RPG starved Xbox owner, this will not satisy you.

Almost, but not quite . . .

Sudeki was an excellent game in terms of graphics, ease of play, and general fun. However, I had two problems with the game: The game was too short. I defeated the final boss after only a week of play. I guess this is to be expected, though. With the exceptions of such titan computer titles like Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind, most of the RPG titles released for Xbox suffer the same lack of content that could keep a gamer interested for months not weeks or days. Basically, Sudeki was all show with little substance.

My other problem with Sudeki was the ending. The story just ends much like it begins. What the hell?
