This was one of the first two games I bought with my xbox, the other being Halo. That was at the beginning of the summer, and I actually played it very little. My brother, on the other hand, sat down and played through in two days.

So, like I said, I didn't play this game all summer, all the while I was playing Halo and Halo 2 and numerous other games. When I came home for break two weeks ago (mid october) I decided to play something different from Halo and put this in, picking up where I had played to the last time (middle of the second level on Geonosis). I do remember having a hard time getting a handle on the controls way back in May when I got it, but now, even with all it's differences from Halo, it came very naturally. And I pounded through one or two more missions in an hour (that's about all that I got to play when I was home, other than a new game I bought, KOTOR 2).

For a Star Wars game this is very unique, unlike other Star Wars shooters like Jedi Knight 2, you are not a lone super soldier weilding an elegant weapon, you are a highly trained clone trooper in charge of a squad of troopers taking on the special missions of the Star Wars prequels. One thing that turned me off to this game at first was the fact that the enemies are hard to hit, due to the fact that the game doesn't make aiming easy. I suppose this adds a degree of reality to a war situation where you panic when you're attacked. Once you get the hang of it, things become much much easier. On top of the stiff aiming, enemies are tough. Battle droid, a good hit will kill them, just like the movies, Super Battle Droids take alot of laser fire to kill, the best way to kill them is an EM grenade and them hammer them till they fall over, and even then they may not be dead. The Geonosians come in standard warriors and them elites. Warriors jump out of the way pretty well and will give you a hard time trying to kill them, the Elites on the other hand, will take a couple of hits to kill, and because they're almost always in flight, they are very hard to kill, the first one you encounter will take you a minute or two with your team.

I know that the one complaint most people have with the campaign is that it's short, there are only three missions, Geonosis, Droid ship, and Kashyyyk. I'm still on Geonosis, but I remember my brother having a really hard time on Kashyyyk, I for one can't wait to get back to beat Geonosis and then the rest of the game.

Gameplay: 9/10
Graphics:9/10
replay: 7/10
Controls:8/10 (learning curve of an hour or so)

overall: 8/10 (welcome to the gritty side of the otherwise elegant world of Star Wars)

This Game is so worth fifty bucks! It is the BEST Star Wars game there is on the market. I have every star wars game there is, except Lego Star Wars. I beat it once, and I'm half way through it again. It is a very good game. The only thing I don't like, is One of the Characters dies and you can't revive him, on the last level. I hope they make a 2nd Republic Commando!!!!!!!!

Republic Rocks!

Real good single player campaign. You have a squad of 4 to command. You can tell them to secure an area, form up, and attack at will. The view is first person. And these aren't some stupid computer guys either. They accually help you do some damage. You get to battle droids, these lizards called Trandosians, and Geneosians. You also get to fight MagnaGuards. You fight on Genonosis, a Republic Ship, and on Kashyyyk.

Am I wrong in thinking this is the first true-blue Lucasarts FPS? I can't be right. Well, ladies and gentlemen, this game blew Mercenaries and Battlefront out of the water. Not to mention the wonderful graphics in this game, the controls are wonderful, and the incapactitaion concept is the first I've ever seen. The weapons rock-out-loud, and don't worry about your health meter, every third step you take there's a bacta station (used for healing). And why use your squad to breach that door, or slice that control when you can?

FIND! FIX! FINISH!
RC-1138 reporting for duty.

Very fun game, with only a couple flaws.

When i first got this game, i wasn't expecting it to be very good. The cover of the game didn't look that interesting, and as i was flipping through the instruction booklet, i was thinking the same thing. The reason i bought it was of course because i am a huge starwars fan, and it is a "must" for me to buy every starwars game that comes out. However, when i first turned on my xbox and started playing the game, i was seriousely doubting my first thought.

Graphics: The graphics in Republic Commando are not that great, this aspect of the game being one of the couple flaws. The character models are extremely average, and the background design is extremely simplistic, with no real "wow!" to it. However, the cutscenes are pretty good as they deliver way better graphics then the actual gameplay does.

Gameplay: The gameplay in Republic Commando is probobly the best aspect of the entire game. The A.I, as The Official Xbox Magazine puts it, is probobly the smartest/most intelligent A.I that you can find in a game now a days with the exception of Tom Clancey's Chaos Theory. Chaos Theory takes A.I intelligence to a whole new level...There are many guns that you can choose from, over a dozen, there are over thirty playable missions, you can do anything, from customizeing the difficulty, to inverting the controls, and to using high-tech gadgets which include lock pickers, state of the art grenades, and much, much more. The other good thing about this game is that their are checkpoints like halo 2 where it saves automatically for you. So by the designers enabling this feature, you do not have to wait to completing the mission in order for you to be allowed to save. All in all, the gameplay aspect of this wonderful game is great.

Audio: The audio is another wonderful feature in the game. With music similar to the classic halo chant, you will just be sitting their without playing the game, but just listening to the fine music that Republic Commando provides for you.

Online: Is there online capability? You bet there is! And its one of the best online games i've ever seen in my entire life. You can quickmatch or optimatch. The optimatch verifications include gameplay type, which includes Team deathmatch, deathmatch, assault and CTF. You can also specifie the amount of players in the room which ranges from 1-15. Overall, the Online aspect of the game is wonderful!

In conclusion, i highly recomend the new Starwars game due to its great gameplay and graphics, plus online multiplay!

When I got my republic commando game the instruction booklet was missing. I didn't want to wait for Amazon to send me another game with a book so I pop the CD in my Xbox and hoped I'd be able to figure it out on my own. And I was able too, there are a lot of on screen hints to help you get through the 1st couple fights. But without the book I never did figure out how to get my men to search a room for me or destroy enemies for me as described in other reviews; I did most of the killing myself, and it took me awhile --by pushing ever button on the control pad-- to figure out how to change weapons and reload. Still despite not having an instruction booklet to help me, I was still able to finish the games in 4 nights.

Things I like about the game the graphic were great like watching a movie. I didn't have to fit the bad guys over, over and over again; you know like other games --like episode III--were you die 7 or 9 times before you finally defeat the big villian and the story line keeps you hooked.

Things I didn't like about the game was missing the book. And it was over too quickly. I would say it is an easy game to play, anyone can finish it even if your not a big time game player. I would recommend playing this game 1st to get use to 1st person battle game play before buying hard M rating battle games.

A pleasant surprise

It is a self-evident proposition that the world just doesn't have enough Star Wars merchandise. There just aren't enough lunchboxes, cereals, t-shirts, mugs, video games, cartoons, sleeping bags, posters, checkbook covers, pins, watches, costumes, pez dispensers, novels, and trading card collections that have to do with that galaxy far, far away. Thus when one of these items comes along in a high-quality fashion I, as a closet Star Wars fan, perk up and pay attention.

I fully expected Star Wars: Republic Commando for the XBox to be a decent game, worthy perhaps of three stars, four if I have had a good day. Little did I anticipate that Lucasarts would foist upon me a five-star first-person sci-fi extravaganza, but alas, that is just what the geeks of General Lucas have done.

What made me love this game? Ah, let me count the ways. There were times when I was far more satisfied playing the single player campaign of Republic Commando than I was with Halo 2. I will try to summarize RC's fun factor in a few points:

1. Star Wars, special ops style - RC presents the truly military aspect of the Star Wars universe. In the movies, General Lucas can't plot out a logical battle to save his life, not to mention that no one who carries a gun in the movies is able to hit the side of a barn with it. Thus I take the term Star "Wars" with a grain of salt.

Not so with this game. RC presents down-and-dirty infantry combat in the Star Wars universe like you've never seen it. Delta Squad is made up of four hard-boiled clone soldiers who don't rely on no fancy force powers or laser swords to get the job done.

2. Seamless squad - Another point of fun factor is the dynamics of the squad itself. Each of the four members has their own personality, and they're actually effective in battle (unlike their storm/clonetrooper brethren a few years down the line, who can't hit a skinny farmboy from ten feet away). The way the order system works is simple but seamless. You don't have to fiddle with twenty different order buttons that don't seem to work. But the best part is that you don't have to micro-manage your squad. They'll usually do just fine without you, and they are terribly effective when you give them a job, but not so effective that you as the squad leader lose out on the droid-shootin' fun.

3. Production values - The very first time I played this game (via the downloadable PC demo), I was impressed by the uber-polished production values. Everything: character models and animation, graphics, level design, music, weapon balance, etc. smacks so much of game design professionalism that I am tempted to label it just that.

The only disappointment is that the campaign is too short. Most games give you too much of a bad thing, but RC is not enough of a good thing.

Welcome to the Darker Side of the Star War Universe!

I was wondering when the more militarish side of Star Wars would emerge, Republic Commando brought exactly that. With a mixture of elements from Halo (Shields), Rainbow Six (Squad Tactics and aiming), and Unreal Tourny, you get a mixture of some degree of realism and tough gritty warfare.

The graphics are pretty good, but not steller. A few things I liked was getting blood, grease and rain on your windshield and your helmet automatically wipes it off; whoever thought of that was pretty creative. I also loved the helmet tactical HUD feature, which displayed numerous gauages and dials but didn't take up an unnessesary part of the screen like in soo many movies, it really went well with the helmet.

The voice acting and dialogue was hilarious. Between the nonchelant Fixer, the creepy sniper Sev and the I-blow-stuff-up-but-Sev-creeps-me-out Scorch, you've got quite a trio of comic-relief characters that say the whackiest things such as, "Never say no to bacta," or, "Sir, with all due respect but what the hell are you doing." You almost get a sense of brotherhood from your fellow commandos.

The gameplay is fairly well done; the squad commands are comprehensible and easy to use during a firefight. When using hand gestures, you temporarily lose control of your weapon, which adds to the realism, which many games ignore. There are only four commands (Hold position, take offensive formations, rally and form up) with the exception of pointing to a position and telling that commando to do an action. It's easy to set up door breaches and they execute many manuevers like real US Special Forces do such as the door breach and movement to contact.

However, the AI can foul up every now and then and a commando may get caught on a corner and not move. To counter this, punch the guy till he goes onconscious, then revive him and his action will reset.

I think it's kinda cheesy that you can "revive" your teamates infinitely and they can revive you, but it's Star Wars and they can get away with it. When you're down you can tell your commandos to back off, attack of come revive you, which is a cool feature since most games (such as Rainbow Six) call game over when the main hero is down.

The music is incredibly well done. It is quite a mixture of choir and opera singing that gets your blood boiling and, of course, they mix some of it with the old Star Wars music.

The enemies can be relentless and either extremely easy or extremely hard dependind on the dificulty level. The Super Droids are nasty in groups so beware, however, the Droidekkas arn't that nasty so it can be weird sometimes.

Aside from that, the only beef I have is that the ending comes aburptly and downright sucks. The game seems too short for what it's worth, I hope they make a sequel.

All in all, an 87%.

WOW! Addictive!

The most fun I had with this game was when I first started playing. I didn't know how to command my troops other than telling them to follow me around, stay, or go away. I spend a lot of time reviving my troops and having them revive me --- which was actually pretty cool! I must of spend hours defending against the "bugs" on geonoises. Later on I found out about the one touch commands and then our troops were on a roll.

You can cammand your troops to take sniper, grenade, and heavy armor positions to destroy the enemy; you can destroy any heavy droids with a few sniper shots to the head. The easiest way to destroy droitekas is with one or two shock grenades follow by a round of machine gun... Spider droids: use armour piercing gun laying around somewhere.

After countless hours of playing over and over.. the droids don't seem so tough. The replay value is excellent.

Drawbacks: It would be great to have multiplayer campaign. though.

Can't wait for the sequel! Awesome!
