Judging by previews, you're in for the ride of your life.

When the first game came out, we all loved it, only if it was for the websliging. Sure the combat was ok and the whole adventure itself was a good experience in itself, but there was always something missing. Where was the freedom? I mean, you were spiderman, but you couldn't go down to the streets? That took a lot away from making it the great game that it should have been.

Now with the sequel, the developers are doing things right by allowing total freedom with missions and websliging right out of the movie. Just with this information, how can the game not be good? With only one more day to go, the anticipation is unbearable. This game is gonna rock my Xbox all day and night.

Hard but fun

At first it was fun and when I got to Rhyno, I beat the crap out of him and it was so fun and I did it over and over again. I got to climb buildings and it was so fun. And I jumped off buildings, and I beat the crap out of bad guys. And it was so fun at the beginning, but when I got to the part where I had to go in the museum it was so hard, because I had to save the people in the time and then I had to get to the statue of liberty and that stinked. The parts where you swing up in the air and fall in the water was hard and I never got past the giant brain.

All though I'm so angry that I can't find the release date for this game in New Zealand and am very angry that it won't come out for ages I'm still looking foward to it. In this one your webline actually attaches to the buldings or something instead of thin air, you can also land on the streets and go up in the sky, the downside to this game is it still features Shocker and Vulture who were in the first game, I was kinda looking foward to battling new enimies, but at least Doctor Octopus will be in it. If you live in the U.S then I have a few words of wisdom: GET THIS GAME NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOU DON'T KNOW HOW LUCKY YOU ARE TO BE GETTING IT SO EARLY!! SO HURRY UP AND ORDER IT!!

A must have

This game is really cool. It's also great for littler kids because they can just swing across town and not have to worry about doi9ng any missions. They can just do what they want. Plus the narrator, Bruce Campbell, is funny and great at walking you through the controls of the game. This game is just like Grand Theft Auto except... it's OK for kids and there's no driving (although you can ride on top of cars). It even keeps all of your stats for everything you do in the game, such as what the longest swing you had was, how many miles you've traveled, etc.
I usually just rent my games through Gamefly, but I'm buying this one.

A Great Game

I bought the game yesterday (July 3), and I have been playing it ever since. It is GTA (without carjacking) meets THUG (without skateboarding) meets the Spider-Man comic book. This game is amazingly fun to play, if you're playing the missions, or just taking a "Spidey" tour of The Big Apple. This game does not stick to the storyline, it adds characters in, such as Mysterio, Shocker, and Black Cat. It does use the storyline of the movie as a plotline basis, though. The one problem that I have with this game, however is the graphics. I feel that they can be much better than they already are, but in a game as fun as this, who cares?

BETTER THAN THE FIRST GAME.

I love the way you can go anywhere in this game .But the mini missions are repetative.graphicaly this game is not so bad, but I have a "S" video cable for my XBOX ,which improves resolution. That is if you have a compatable TV. I think some younger kids might like this game better. All in all a good concept game but could've been better. Like More diverse side missions .And maybe you could talk to people on the street instead of the same cutscenes in the mini missions. This game is fun to swing around the city and see the day change into night with all the city lights is pretty kool. It'd be nice to play some of the other characters too.

Grand Theft - Spiderman!

I bought this game the day before the movie came out and was pleased to see that the main actors from the film did the game. The overall look is different than it's predecessor and the overall gameplay is better. New York city is entirely recreated, from the streets to the top of the Empire state building.

Unlike the first game you can:

Walk on the streets
Actually webswing on a builing ( not air )
Talk to citizens
Do whatever you want basically, do missions when you feel like it.
And so on....

This game is wonderful for any video game fan and a must have all Spiderman fans.

Mediocre attempt, flashes of greatness

This game suffers from an unusual problem that most sequels don't: it seems the developers listened to the gaming community. The first Spider-Man The Movie game was a lot of fun, but it had it's limitations- it was too linear, there was no room for exploration, and your activities were limited to the skies and rooftops and a few indoor areas. Spidey-fans and gamers alike wanted more room to swing and more opportunities to use their great powers with great responsibility- but less linearity.

S-M2 bucks that trend. In a nod to Grand Theft Auto 3-style gaming, the city is now yours to explore. There are huge skyscrapers, dark alleyways, and bustling streets. You can either choose to follow along with the linear plot, seek out mini-missions that net you points you can use to purchase upgrades, or hunt down hidden items (for no apparent reason than a higher overall score).

While great in concept, the implementation is sorely lacking. There are only a handful of randomly-generated mini-mission types (car chases, robberies, air-land-and-sea rescues), which forces you to replay the same tired action sequences over and over and over. Fun for a bit, but not for hours and hours of filler. The way the game is structured, you have to purchase upgrades to progress- so you are forced to take hundreds of these mini-missions to follow the game's main plot.

Swinging around the city is lots of fun, and you get a bunch of different upgrades (web zip line and slingshot for example) that aren't really functionally necessary, but still add to your enjoyment. In addition, you can pull off weird midair Tony Hawk-like stunts (also purchasable)for no apparent reason other than that they are marginally enjoyable as well.

The main plot is well done. It diverges from the movie and adds in some nifty comic book characters such as Rhino and the Black Cat, but the generally outline- defeat Octavius and win back Mary Jane, remains the same.

The fighting system has apparent depth, but most combat against non-bosses can be resolved with button mashing. It can be fun at times, tossing bad guys left and right- but after awhile pounding thugs into the pavement or hanging them off lampposts looses all semblance of a challenge. S-M2 is also the 700,000 game to feature a Matrix "bullettime" mode. Yawn.

So much could have been done with this game that I can't help but suspect that we were given an unfinished product set to be released concurrently with the movie. It is truly a shame.

Not worth the full purchase price. Rent or buy used unless you're a Spider-Man fanatic. If so, find a good sale...

Way too short - good rental.

I was very excited with all of the hype that this game out of the gate. Even the magazines were praising it. Unfortunately I bought into the hype and purchased the game without renting it first. Do yourself a favor and rent the game, once you get past the learning curve main story line is an easy solve.

After the main storyline it is possible to keep playing to obtain additional hero points, but how many armor car high jackings does one actually want to stop.

Manhattan perfectly recreated for Spidey swinging!

Top line: great game and the best Spider Man game ever!

Environment: 10 out of 10. Manhattan is perfectly recreated. People walk by chatting and yelling stuff like "Go Spidey!" when you pull off something cool, or "Menace!" when you swing over their head. Cars move around and you can surf on top of them.
Kids will lose balloons, and you can deliver them back to them... thiefs will attempt bank robberies, ships will sink... and you can have your say in setting things right.

Graphics: 8 out of 10. While the city is perfect, characters are sort of weak. In up-close shots, you will notice how people look like a ballon with a human skin attached to it.

Physics: 10 out of 10. GREAT STUFF! The best part of the game is just swinging around... its so cool you will almost get dizzy on it. Moreover, you can pull-off some style combos while flying around and this will get you energy back and make you have even more fun. Its like having an SSX3 game put into a super hero game.

Plot: 7 out of 10. The game follows squarely the movie, adding however a bunch of side quests. Side quests do get sort of weak after a while, though.

The Bottom Line:
This is truly a well done game! Buy it if:
1) you are by any means a comic fan or a Spidey fan.
2) if you saw and enjoyed the movie.
3) if you like action games with awesome physics!
