Great Game, First Is Better

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 3 / 3

This is a really great game don't get me wrong, it just not as good as the first. Halo 2 was made by different people in Bungie, so they changed some stuff like the sheilds, guns, forecity of opponents( except for the grunts), and many others. I bought this game along with map pack on EBAY and preety much only play Multiplayer. Yet I still like this game. KEEP PLAYING, AND GO MC!!!!!!!

Halo 2 Review

Halo 2, the sequel to the widely praised shooter and the best-selling game, the original Halo is out. But is in any good? Yes, because what this excellent game combines is the great visuals, compelling game play, and riveting sound effects all in one great package.
One reason why the Halo series is one of the most popular shooting games is that the richly detailed environments make it one of the best seen on today's X-Box. The reason for this is the explosion, character models, environment; ect makes you feel like you are at the war scene, giving memorable battles.
Another major highlight of Halo 2 is its action packed game play. The realistic feel of shooting piercing bullets at your foes, and later flanking them with powerful grenades, to your enemies challenging artificial intelligence. The enemies AI is a distinguishing contribution that makes it different from other shooters. In addition to the intense, hostile-like shooting, mind boggling tactics are formed to defeat the enemy Coneveant. These tactics could lead to driving the incredibly fun and diverse vehicles from flying mini ships to large tanks. Other tactics involved with the deep game play are dual wielding two different weapons, melee attacks, vehicle hijacking, and much more.
Sound and audio throughout the game give it the epic feel and realism that tops of Halo's package. The sound effects while on battle are incredibly detailed as every gunshot is heard, every grunt, environmental sounds plus a lot more adding to the sheer quality of the game. The background music by Martin O'Donnell is top-notch, the inspiring music pops in the game just at the right moments not only making them memorable but fantastic as it plays it just a the right moment. As always the professional voice acting is prominent in Halo 2. The voices heard sound absolutely real to its counter part, from the dark voice of Master Chief to the wailing Grunts.
What sums off Halo 2 for most gamers and fans of the series is it exciting multiplayer. When you have friends you can relive Master Chief's epic battles with the two player cooperative modes, or have your friends play against each other with its very popular multiplayer modes. One of the great implication to this edition of Halo is it X-Box live support, allowing you to play against people around the world. This adds to the lasting value of Halo as its single player is a quite short compared to other games.
With all these good points about Halo 2 it is hard to believe that this game is not perfect, but like any other game it has very few flaws. One of which is the kind of short story which leads many fans wanting more action. Probably by far the biggest disappointment is the end of the game which leads players begging for more on the story as cliff hanger ending some what disappoints.

Despite a rather short campaign and a disappointing storyline, Halo 2 is an exceptional shooter that frequently delivers thrilling, memorable, and unique moments in its online, multiplayer, and single-player modes. Depending on what you most want from the game, you may find that Halo 2 leaves you desperate for another installment in the series, but there is enough lasting value in the highly replay able missions, its online play, and great multiplayer.

Shame on you Jason Jones, shame on you Bill Gates. If any one ever wondered what would happen if the "first to market at any cost" approach of M$ would interfere with the creativity and commitment to great gaming that Bungie has shown over the last 15 years, then look no further; this is abortusWare

You get to play alternatively as Master Chief and an Elite. Wage battle after battle (yawn) for .....uh the fun of it. What is fun again? Slaughter creatures for a couple of hours and then watch the game end in mid sentence. Why would anybody want to play a half game? You will stand up and say "I think I'll empty the cat litter box".

I have followed Bungie since 1990; I have played through the Marathon series, ONI, and the original Halo. Each of these games was fantastic. They kept you thinking between waves of frags. Each was a breath of fresh air.

I sold my copy of HALO 2 right after I played it. Get the message?

Great game, little disappointment

Let me preface this by saying I love Halo, and I'm the reason 4 or more xboxes were bought in the past few years. I don't play 1st person shooters other than Halo. I'm a Madden-NCAA-Live-Nascar player, but Halo just is impossible to ignore. The big LAN parties are unreal, and blah blah blah. Anyway, I just bought 4 Halo 2 games, and was counting down the days until I could get my hands on it. Let me say that the game is great, but it still left something out.
I'm not a graphics, framerate, rendering, bump in grind mapping person, so let me just talk about experience. Halo 2 to me is just an extension of Halo. There are a few new options and new vehicles, but for the time I waited, I felt like there could've been more. The weapons improvements were okay, but they should've left the pistol alone. The Spartan weapons and vehicles aren't worth anything. You're still left with the sniper rifle and the shotgun as the top two. I do like the new battle rifle with the scope, but it wasn't all that impressive. You'd think that after weilding and using covenant weapons for so long in Halo, that the UEMC whatever scientists would have come up with some more efficient weapons. I was highly disappointed that the ATV didn't show up in the game. The elite mission was monotonous in campaign mode. I spent more time wondering who to kill, than actually killing. I appreciated the twist and liked the story, but I was ready to be done with it. Overall I was disappointed in alot of things.
That been said though, this game is awesome. It matches the theme of Halo. I love the story line in campaign mode. The troops are smarter and actually help out. The missions are great as a whole, especially the one's outside on the highways or on the beaches. The music is cool, it puts you in to the game more and kinda put goosebumps on your back at the right time. Cooperative mode is nice as before, I'm just waiting for the game that will allow a 4 player coop mode, or even more. Overall this game is great and I'm sure if this was Halo 1 (CE), I could sell a few more xboxes again. Halo was so good, and so innovative that it's hard to match that level of awe, but I do feel that H2 matches or is not far behind in quality.
The Multiplayer maps seem to be a little cluttered and dark this time around. I haven't gotten the LAN clan together yet, so we'll have to see how it pans out. Coagulation (blood gulch) seems to be a good improvement. I like playing single flag CTF on Live in Zanzibar, but other than that the jury is out. Headlong seems to be promising, and waterworks is interesting also. Tried to play on Live, but couldn't get a decent game yet. It's hard and time consuming to get hooked up, but I haven't done it much yet as I'm trying to get through the campaign mode. I work, so I don't have time to sit around and learn how to spawn camp like some losers online, but the time I have spent has been addictive.
This is a great game, and the goods far outweigh the bad. It's top of the line in fun, and I recommend getting it to everyone. I'm probably going to buy 2 more before Christmas if I can get my hands on them. The only this is the cursing, but I guess that's why it was rated as high. I'd have to think about whether or not to get it for a younger kid. Top of the line game, go get it!

ANOTHER "MATRIX" DISASTER

Remember waiting for the sequel to the Matrix? When it came out, you thought, well that wasn't bad, but I can hardly wait for the next one. This is what Halo 2 is, an over hyped piece of a scatter brained material, that doesn't know where to go, or what to do. Except wait for the next installment...in another three years!

Not as good as the first

I loved Halo. From the moment I picked it up it "spoke" to me like no other game ever has. And, I've been playing video games since pong. For 2+ years me and my friends would spend EVERY weekend playing online using XBC. Even with all that game play, it never got boring for us. Normaly, when I play a game and beat it, it then goes to the shelf to sit next to the rest of the games to collect dust. Even games that are fun to play online have never kept my attention for more than a couple of months.

So, when I tried out Halo 2, I was vastly dissapointed. I felt like I was playing another sega of the Unreal franchise. Master Chief has new low gravity jumps. Multiplayer now has gravity pads. You no longer take damage when falling from up high. Part of the strategy of Halo multiplayer was using objects to break your fall. The new weapons that I will talk about shortly make for a much faster game with a "spray and pray" feel to it. I thought I was buying Halo. Had I wanted Unreal, I would have just bought Unreal. Part of Halo's charm for me and many others was the fact that it wasn't Unreal or Quake. It was a skill based shooter that stood on it's own.

I had a few problems with the campaign mode. It was very dark compared to Halo. I don't mean sinister, just dark. Not very many bright sunny days in Halo 2. It was rather short. And they did things with the plot that I could have done without. But, even with this said it was alright.

The major problem for me is the multiplayer. The multiplayer is where replayability is a huge factor. When my friends and I played Halo for 2+ years, we didn't sit around playing the campaign over and over. The main problem are the new weapons. They have removed or changed EVERY single weapon in the game. The weapon that made Halo what it was, the pistol, is no longer. This wouldn't have been all that bad, but no good substitute is offered. They said that they did this for "balance". But, when everyone has a pistol, there isn't a balance or overpowered issue. After all, you need some weapons more powerfull, or you might as well just only have one weapon for the whole game. Now they have a sub machine gun as the mainstay. It's a very weak weapon with a very short range. So instead of playing and shooting and having fun, I now have to chase people down to get into range. That, or wait around for a couple of minutes for a decent weapon to spawn. The plasma rifle no longer "freezes" an enemy. The physics of the rocket have changed and the splash damage has been reduced. The grenades have been toned down to being almost worthless. Even the sniper rifle is a little different. There are a couple of new mid ranged weapons, but at mid range you'll be lucky kill your target in a full clip. The new weapons worked fine in multiplayer, but don't translate for multiplayer. By making such a severe change in the weapons, they also made a fundemental change in the game play. It is no longer a mid ranged shooter, it is now a short ranged shooter. This is another reason it gives Halo 2 that Unreal and Quake feel. Halo 2 offers duel wielding where you can use a single hand weapon in both hands. This was a novel idea, and tried with other games before. The problem I have with it is that most of the weapons seemed toned down to force you to use duel wielding. You can't swing a dead cat around without hitting some ammo for a duel wieldable weapon. But any medium range weapons you'll be scrambling to find ammo.

And there are a couple of new vehicles. They are fun, but my problems are in the changes to the vehicles we already had. Now you can board vehicles and they take damage. No more shooting a person out of a warthog as it drives by with your flag with your spawn weapon. Now you pretty much have to blow the whole thing up. GOOD LUCK! And well timed grenades no longer flip them over or stop them. Now you'll just do some damage to it instead as they drive by. And a persons shields are directly involved in when the vehicle is destroyed. You could shoot a rocket launcher at a Wraith tank and wait for the persons shield to recharge. Well, after 40 rocket launcher shots you would think it would be ready to explode, but no. Running someone over in a vehicle is much hard. I have hit people head on and simply bounce them off my vehicle about 100 feet without killing them. Boarding a vehicle is a novel idea, but a good player won't get into range of you.

I could go on, and on, and on. All I have to say to end this is, try it before you buy it. They had 1.5 million pre-order sales on the first day. Not because Halo 2 was good, but because Halo was good. Those 1.5 million people hadn't even tried the game. I too was one of the unlucky. I fell for the hype and thought Bungie would make a quality game worthy of the name Halo. I was wrong.

How did Halo 2 get four stars?

Ugh, what have kids come to nowadays? I mean most of us grew up with Atari and Nintendo, no, not nintendo gamecube, not nintendo 64, not super nintendo, but Nintendo. Our society has truly gone downhill when Halo 2 only receives a four star rating. Kids nowadays... everything has to fulfill their every little wish and dream for them to enjoy it. Sorry, I'm just venting from some kids post and this really doesn't explain anything about Halo 2. Lots of people will probably say this review wasn't helpful...

Halo 2 has all the fun and action that we enjoyed in the first game but is in a different setting. In the original their were many grassland/wilderness fight environments, in Halo 2 it's more urbanized. Extra combat surprises as double weapon weilding, ghost and banshee grand theft auto, higher jumping capabilities, and extra weapons etc, will keep this game fun months after you've beaten it. Not to mention the multiplayer is beyond entertainment. Buy a HUD for your Xbox's, get some friends together, and you'll have a blast for hours on end. Enjoy the game.

P.s. But why did I write this? Seriously? I mean, who hasn't played Halo 2 by now? Ah, later.

What to compare Halo 2 to...I would say Michigan's football team: overrated. That being said, Halo 2 had a lot of hype behind it, and not a lot of punch. The single player game was boring and uninspired. Even multiplayer at my house with my friends wasn't very exciting. I loved the first one. We (my friends and I) still play Halo because the multiplayer levels are more fun. The dual weapons thing wasn't as cool as I had hoped, and the game acts spotty in a few places, especially during cut scenes. That, of course, could be my Xbox wheezing its last breath, but the game still doesn't live up to expectations.

The online play is fun...for about 3 days. For you console people, I, much like the rest of the world, has been playing games online with our PCs for almost a decade, and this "innovation" of Halo 2 online and Xbox live is old hat.

I work at a videogame store and expected to play with my co-workers for months to come, but they have already moved on to Ghost Recon 2, and I started playing Prinice of Persia 2.

Overall: Graphics are good, some of the textures in the cutscenes seem to pop in (i.e. crappy draw rate). Live is entertaing for a while. The ending will make you want to scream and demand your $50 back. You get to play as the Covenant, which isn't as cool as you would think. The multiplayer maps aren't good for single Xbox multiplayer action (1 xbox, 4 people to clarify). Basically it is a gigantic let down.

Will I buy Halo 3? Ummm...no. Well, probably, but I'll do it begrudingly.

Not what it could have been, or should have been

All we needed was Halo 1.5(like the reviewer below said) and we would have been fine. The game is mediocre at best, and the Xbox Live sucks. You can't even pick the game type, or map that you want to play on. I didn't pay $50 for some nerds that made the game to tell me what level I(the paying customer) get to play.

Now, even with a million signatures, it will never work, but just check out the link. It's actually a petition for Halo 1.5

[...]

As I said, it wont work. But, if you sign, it could force Bungie to make Halo 3 the way it SHOULD be made, not like every other game on the market, but a unique game, like Halo was.
