Strange Unecessary changes, but still the BEST YET!

If you're a Halo fan, then you will eat Halo 2 for breakfast.

With smarter A.I. that have personalities (like getting revenge on you if you shoot them, and very smart/fiting taunts if you miss), a more expansive amount of maps, terrain features, and of course VEHICLES(!!!), Halo 2 is the next step in XBox's domination of the First-Person-Shooter/Multiplayer market.

The story line will keep you captive until the end, then it will cut off your hands and slap you with them. It is a GREAT story, in-depth, well thought out, and it draws you into it and engulfs you almost like a good book, but the ending is somewhat.....lacking.

It was Ok

The gameplay was great, but the story sucked. It was dumb and messed up. Playing as the covenent was different...but it was weird. The Game is a HUGE LET DOWN compared to Halo. The only good that came from it was the Multiplayer(halo multi. was better though) and the fact that they must create a better and new Halo game after that abrupt screwed up eniding. RENT IT DONT BUY IT.

A very Hyped Game. Not that much fun to me

I like the ocasinal shooter game. Halo 2 is one shooter game for me is not fun. I didn't enjoy this game as much as I would of. The graphics are amazing but the controls were too hard. If you like the first halo get this game. But I'll get Day of Reckoning.

Endless

After drowning in hype, I finally gave in and played Halo 2. If you are a Halo fanatic then you will of course like this game. However, if you are like me and were sceptical that it can be as good as all the hype, you will probably find the game repetitive and a bit frustrating. I did enjoy some of the game's new features such as your personal energy shield that helped you stay alive longer, and the frequent save points that kept me from having to re-play levels for endless hours was also great. Unfortunately, the various levels were often repetitive, the story line is not well defined and the ending is one of the worst I have ever seen (but I guess we can all look forward to Halo 3). If you are looking for a single player first person adventure game I would not recommend Halo 2. If you love the look and feel of Halo and want to go online to destroy your friends and enemies, then Halo 2 is the game for you.

Not as good as Halo 1

After having played this game pretty much since it came out I would say that it has only 2 main advantages over Halo 1:

1. Better graphics
2. You can play online

At first this game is tons of fun. Dual wielding is cool, the sword is fun, and online play is pretty much nonstop action. I have definitely had many hours of fun with this game.

Now for my gripes. First of all, matchmaking SUCKS. The fact that they don't let you pick which map and gametype you want to play means that half the time you end up on a bad map with a bad gametype. Also, the stupid little "hacks" that people use (like superjumps) are really annoying and take away from gameplay.

I also feel that most weapons have been made less accurate on purpose, especially the pistol. This means that half the time the winner of a gunfight is the one who gets lucky with their gun, not the one who has more skill. The grenades are also weaker and pretty much worthless as you can't get a single hit kill except with the plasma. The shotgun is also pretty much useless unless you are at poin blank.

My opinion for Bungee? Make an online vesrion of Halo 1 for xbox, or just make sure Halo 3 doesn't suck.

cool

Halo 2 is strong follow up to its predecessor, Halo:CE. It's single player might not be as strong as the originals, but the multiplayer experience you will have with this game is amazing. Single player suffers from a story that is not as strong as the first halo and a cliffhanger ending. It also suffers from some repetitive level design and overall it doesn't blow you away like the first games single player did. However, the halo 2 single player experience is still better than 98% of console FPS games out there.

The multiplayer is where you get the value out of this game. This game in combination with an xbox live subscription is the most fun you will ever have with a console FPS. The matchmaking system that is implemented in online play is a revolutionary feature to the online gaming movement, as it makes getting into games with people of the same skill easier than ever before. Theres a good amount of variety in all of the levels and most of the levels show the balance that you want when you are playing a team-based FPS.

Overall, Halo 2 is the best selling xbox game for a reason. You can't go wrong with picking this one up.

Killer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All Xbox/or 360 owners must get this game. I dont care what kind of games you like you must get it. One of my friends hated it until we played the multiplayer. The multiplayer is my favorite part of the game. If you have four players ou can play team and that is really awesome. Or if you and your friend has an xbox you can by a link cable and hook them up and you can have eight players. To do this you will need a link cable, two xboxs, two halo 2 disks, and two tvs. This game is my favorite game.

Had great potential, but failed in many respects

Halo 2, by all means is an excellent game. The game runs smoothly, the shading techniques (especially in outer space) are beautiful.

I am a Halo fan. I dislike Doom 3. Halo is one of the best shooters made in the past decade. Nonetheless, that does not mean that people should go out of the way to say it has no faults. It does.

First and foremost is the story. It sucks (in comparison to the first game). With the exception of the obvious, major (and debated) flaw (Halo fans, you know what I speak of), the thing that bugged me was clarity. The story contains so many plot points (more so than the original) that it is very confusing the first time you play through. This could all have been fixed easily, had the game mimicked the original. It doesn't. Cortana is very pedestrian speech wise, bringing up lame jokes and her whole air of superiority and respect from the first game is nearly gone. The radio chatter is even worse, using a proximity thing that changes between two settings depending on your situation to your marines, up close and personal or the slightest bit away. Unlike the first game which had a realistic 'pfft' noise when someone stopped talking on the radio, the voices over the radio now are way overblown and obviously, the quality has been turned down in various ways in a sound editor. The result was my brother and I cringing in our seats as we played through co-op. It was awful. This is partially the reason why Cortana was so hard to understand. The next reason is that sound as a whole in Halo 2, unless you have wonderful speakers, is muted and no where near that of the originals clarity and grace. When I first played Halo (as I played Halo 2) I was always rushing through the game, eager to see what happened next. Halo fixed this problem by providing clear voiceovers. Halo 2, apart from having some very wooden and stiff acting coming from Cortana and the marines, provides subtitles in the lengthy cut scenes, but not during gameplay. Because much of the story unfolds during the heat of the action, my battle rifle out did Cortana's meager attempt to tell me what was going on. The first time I played through, I missed out on key elements of the story, resulting in extreme frustration. Now to gameplay. Its great. Really great, once you get over the rushed animations and horrible texture problems. This game is the worse I've ever seen when it comes to textures. Not because they are dull, but because they are out of control. It is very messy, when peoples noses come into view than disappear, or, the shading on someones helmet does the same thing. Almost every object has textures that shift, mostly due to proximity. Walk up to a ghost some time, taking in the whole scene carefully. Or the tanks sides or warthog's wheels. You'll see it. Now back up slowly. Now move forward again. This is by far the worse case of graphical glitches (or shifting textures) I've seen in any game (with the possible exception of Far Cry: Instincts). Worse, it trains your eye to see even the slightest texture glitch in the most solid of games, ruining the realism experience in other good titles. Gone are the wonderful gun reloading sequences, replaced by rushed reloading. Guns are not cocked (although the battle rifle has an automatic one), pistol hammers not pulled back if you empty the magazine then reload, the sniper rifle heavily depowered, and ammo is in incredibly short supply (resulting not in hard gameplay but merely frustration). And, a final note on the graphics. Apart from generally sucking in comparison to the E3 video of New Mombassa (which sadly is not featured in the game as a full level), the facial graphics are some of the worst seen in recent times. Pasted on ears, heads that more resemble polygons than reality, totally different than the smoothness of the E3 trailer (I mean, compare Sgt. Johnson then and now. Who looks better?) Remember the two twin pilots from In Amber Clad? Uh! I can't say more!

I know it sounds like I'm ranting on, totally degrading this game. That's true, I am, in many ways. However, when you go through loads of hype, are fooled by Microsoft and Bungie into thinking the story mode will be the greatest video game experience ever (featuring Earth and only Earth!), I really felt cheated. My brother spent fifty bucks on this game and we got...this. It's bad news.

Overall though, I have come to love Halo 2 for what it does have. Very good graphics, smooth gameplay, more diverse weapons (although in short supply), less backtracking through levels, more vehicles to control (but less than expected), excellent replay value, although not as many enjoyable levels as the first game. Fantastic multiplayer even without Xbox live. Great multiplayer maps. Good ending has promise for a better sequel.

Halo 2 leaves a lot of plot holes that I hope will be resolved in the final chapter. While its ending promises something better, I'm not purchasing an Xbox 360 anytime soon, and, when Halo 3 is released, I'll look for reviews that aren't done by hyped up individuals (remember Gamespot's debated review? It turned out to be all true.)

The game is great...

You know I used to hate fps (first person shooter) games...but one day I was at my cousin's party and we were just playing videogames and some older guys came over he knew and put halo in. Ever since then i can't get enough of them, and on a side note Halo has to be the best of them overall. If you are tired of fps games or if you just were never interested this is the game to rekindle that flame that you thought was just not there.
(By the way wats up with the metaphor that included the words "Mosse" "gosse" and "alnose", kid pay attention in school...i mean i am dying to know what you could have possibly meant by "alnose"). And to the kid who gave Halo 2 one star and mentioned some kid named Brandon and Grand Theft Auto being better...ha ha. Please rethink that one.
