This game is nothing like the Call of Duty for pc. There is no D-Day or running through Stalingrad. I remember trying to secure a building but I kept on getting killed by my own tanks. It has some of the worst A.I. that ive seen in a game. Every time the enemy shoots they seem to hit you even if you're crouching, running and sometimes even behind what seems to be perfectly safe cover. The Nazis charge at you like madmen. Shooting them in the stomach, legs, or other appendages should wound them but, oh yeah, they cant be wounded only killed. I gave the game two stars for the graphics and game designing. Its hard to believe that the best WWII FPS for pc would turn out to be one of the worst games for X-Box. This was by far my worst purchase ever.

Get the PC version instead.

I think this is a very fine game, its not an easy one and no cheat codes are up yet that I know about, so you,re on your own.
At that point basic combat tactics soon become obvious if you are to survive.
The graphics are very nice, play is active and exciting, its really a very good game, hope this company starts putting out more games, they did a really find job.
As far as EA games MOH, they are two different entities, EA games MOH you get a break, cheat codes, lots of on line info, but for a first time the makers of Call Of Duty did well.
Like others, I find the major irritation factor is getting almost finished and then getting killed and having to start the level all over again, these are not easy levels.
Being a stundent of WWII history, it seems that there was a lot of research put into this game, really shows.
So to briefly sum it up, its not perfect, but it still is excellent, I give this a 5+

Superb Cinematic Background makes for great WWII game!

I would agree with other reviewerd that the pc-based game is far better. But I'm just here to give a review on the X-box game, I'll try to be objective.

The game has some of the same feel and style as the Medal of Honor games I have on X-box. The missions are challenging in some areas and fun. Here are some things I liked about it:

1) Commanding your squad: An icon appears when you get close to your comrades in certain situations that is a symbol of them running, when hitting the black button, this tells your comrade to advance in the forward direction of the enemy. I found this to be a great addition to the game as you're able to have some help and use some strategy, like when storming the hill's and assaulting the trenches on your way to take out some pillbox's and bunkers early in the game. It's also a GREAT feature to have when inside a warehouse or abandoned home, in that you can open the door and/or have your team move ahead of you to take out the initial front of attack.

The A.I. on your comrades is better than seen in any other game of thie genre to date. (as far as WWII games go, I've heard some Desert Storm games have excellent Squad and Platoon directive features) They don't get in your way all of the time, and they don't do the standard 2-shots (both missing) cover fire then hide behind something. The comrades that accompany you in your missions actually ATTACK the enemy with ferocious force and do inflict damage to them, so when you come to a clearing they are not dancing around like idiots as you find yourself having to take on every Nazi in the land single handedly. There was a moment on the hill below the pill-box's where I thought I had lost my squad, but when I turned around, they were behind me returning fire to a Nazi who was trying to take me out from a hidden position!

2) Cinematic: The game has a good backdrop of Stalingrad and other famous battles and such, but does not quite seem to capture the overall WWII feel as much as MOH games. It's still very good, and my opinion will differ from others of course. There is a lot of street fighting as well as being out in the dirt and trenches dodging machine gun fire and mortars.

3) Weapons: This game is excellent in this department. You have the ability to pick up any weapon that a Nazi has dropped after they are taken out.

4) Versatility: I found the level where your in the second story of the warehouse a bit needless. I'm not saying these things didn't happen, but it get's kind of old hat when your in the second story of a large building trying to be a sniper on various infantrymen that are in the town. I find it much more productive if your down on ground level fighting them. But at the same time it's probably more realistic story-line wise to have something like this, which reminds me of the movie "Enemy at the Gates".

5) Lighting and Contrast: I know in war you find yourself fighting at all hours of the day or night, but it seems like in many scenes, even in daytime, that it is to dark. Many shadows abound from nowhere and you often find yourself saved only because you fired at a muzzle flash in the background.

6) Overall the game is a blast, but if you've played medal of honor Frontline and Rising Sun, it starts to become old hat. I have played this game on PC and it is a bit more intense and pure on the PC. If you liked the MOH series and want a new wargame on X-box, try this out!

Hard Hitting Fun

I was a Medal of Honor fan so my expectations were low, but Call of Duty Finest Hour has renewed my excitement for the WW2 FPS. From the Heart-pounding first moments entering the battle of Stalingrad to the triumphant crossing of the Rhine, the epic experience hooked me into an all night War to defeat the Nazis. The graphics are amazing and the sound is fantastic. What I really enjoyed, was playing different kinds of soldiers in diverse locations like Africa and Russia. The control was superior to the last Medal of Honor release and the characters were much more interesting. If this is the first game for Spark, I look forward to seeing what they come up with next! Tally Ho!

Lost in translation...

Ironically, I had preordered the console version of Call of Duty long before I had played the PC version. Yet with the release date oh so far away, I decided to take advantage of the recent price drop of the Call of Duty PC game hoping that it would tide me over. However, after playing countless hours of the game on my PC, I'd have to say that Call of Duty: Finest Hour is a bit of a disappointment. I understand that a console has nowhere near the processing power of a PC, yet I couldn't help but feel underwhelmed by FH's graphics which were simple and bland at best. However, I was mostly disappointed in the lack of save points throughout a level. That meant after spending ten minutes or so blasting your way through a difficult level, you would have to start the campaign all over again from start to finish if your player is killed. I always appreciate a challenge, yet not when the odds are overwhelmingly stacked against me. The one aspect that the console version did translate well was the "war is hell" theme. The beginning level featuring you as a Russian soldier taking back Stalingrad from the "steeking Germans" was intense with gunfire raining all around you and enemy soldiers around every corner. The death animations are overly exaggerated which made in difficult to distinguish whether or not an enemy was either wounded or dead only to have them shoot you in the back. I played this game for only an hour before I filed it away with my other games. I imagine that I will someday go back, but in the meantime, I'm having too much fun with the PC version.

realistic, but not perfect

I bought this game becuase my local bestbuy has it featured in a poster, and I thought it would be a good choice for on-line play. Honestly, I think this game is realistic enough, and the graphics are such that if you viewed it from a distance from your tv, it looks like a top-notch war-movie. A good feature of this game is that it let take up your rifle and aim down the sight, and release it as you lift the trigger, this provides much action and realism.

too few checkpoints, granades hit you too easily, damage effect very annoying, otherwise, ok game.

Awesome!!!

This game kicks ass, it is so much better than all the other FPS WWII games on the xbox. The graphics rock, sounds excellent and gameplay never gets old.
The weapons are realistic, squad mates do work, and all tank missions are fun.
The main game is hard at first until you get used to it (the key is laying down and shooting no matter where you are) and xbox live rocks because everygame i join i come in first place, even when its been going on for 20 mins.
Pros: fun levels, fun weapons, fun game.
Cons: Controls are different, i am used to Halo.

Buy it!!!

Your Call of Duty.... don't buy this x-box version

Most of the reviews I've read sum it up. Something got lost in the transition from the PC to the X-Box. The A.I. is terrible, the multiplayer is terrible, various option selections are terrible, and the game itself is full of all sorts of wierd bugs and glitches. It's sad to see such an awsome PC game with such console potential wind up being the next sequel in the Medal of Honor series.

Not what I expected

I am a counterstrike player and I bought this game for my XBox thinking it would be kind of like DOD (Day of Defeat) or the MOH series. It is a decent game but very random. The randomness is that you will be sitting in a corner waiting to push and then all of a sudden out of nowhere a grenade just happens to land right by your feet taking almost all of your life away. Or you'll be pushing forward and you'll get shot in the back with half of your team behind you. The accuracy of the weapons is realistic to a point. You can't just run through the Nazi's blasting them with your Thompson or BAR. But they made the K98 (German Sniper Rifle) a hunk of crap in this game. I picked one up off a Nazi while playing and shot it once at an enemy and threw it down. The crosshairs on it are ridiculous to aim with that I wouldn't even waste my time guessing where to shoot between the huge crosshairs they provided. Although I have not played it on XBox Live I don't think I will. Just from playing the first few missions I found it to be quite boring. The AI always knows where you are and if you try to bait a member on your team and step out to take out that MG42 you'll get blasted. When I say blasted...the MG will be completely focused on your teammate and he could be across the map but boom you always seem to get hit when you step out no matter what.
Theres also a glitch in my game on the Remagen level when I go up a set of stairs there's a Nazi running sideways and he is superfast and quite accurate. The graphics and realism are very amazing, but the single player just stinks. All in all if you buy this game you obviously should play it on XBox live. Don't waste your time playing the single player missions. There are very few checkpoints so just when you think you are almost there you get killed and have to start all the way over again.

Great Game!

This game is a blast! I have had it for almost a week now and it is cool! The graphics are good, although I think that they would be better if my TV wasn't so crappy. It isn't the most realistic game on the market, although I have only played on easy, yet it has provided a moderate challenge in some areas. I cannot review the online play, as I do not have broadband. This said, this is a great game and I would buy it again!
