I read some OK reviews about this game and played the PC demos, which were great, so I decided to try the xbox version. My mistake. It's a piece of junk! In most of the russian missions it's too dark to see anything! and i hate when you're in a tank because they are hard to control. plus the british missions are commando style while ppl seem to prefer big battles. i am so going for the pc version now

This should not be called Call Of Duty

This game should not be called call of duty. Instead, it shuold be called "wait for the f**king tanks". seriously you spend half of this game waiting for tanks to move ahead of you at 2mph. and then you get shot by a guy in a MG42 400 yards away that you cant even aim at. Then when you hide behind a rock or something, your tanks shoot you. Then you have to start all over and your 20 minutes of progress is shattered. Nice going tanks. I hate this game.

i was expecting more

with so much hype about this game, i thought it would be a GREAT game to buy. first day i played it, i allready made my own opinion.....

the story is pretty good. it makes you feel like you are in europe during wwII. it makes you think. but sometimes you can get lost because the game is not set on a deffinate path unlike halo. theres more room to roam around and explore....meanwhile you're gettin shot at.

the game can be very difficult at sometimes. for a number of reasons....the AI are dumbasses (which is in every game), "i swear i just shot that guy" and he doesnt fall. but mainly the game is just hard and frustrating. if you screw up and die, you start WAY back, cause theres only a checkpoint every half hour.

the weapons are awesome. grenades suck cause the blast radius is only like 5 feet. but you can carry alot of them.

theres also a lean/peek feauture, pretty decent.

graphics...
HALO OWNS ok? COD...sorry to say....kinda sucked graphic wise. big dissapointment. facial features are blury and lack detail. and the overall shapes of things are roughed in. everything lacks detail. the rocks have flat surfaces, its nowhere near a round object.

While I do love a great FPS, I have become incredibly weary of World War II shooters. That being said, I started this game not expecting much. Man, was I surprised. Call of Duty is probably one of the best World War II shooter franchises on the market.

Once you get started, you're immersed in the trenches of the European theater of World War II. Graphically, this game is a masterpiece, with incredibly detailed environments. Also, having a surround sound system, preferably dolby digital 5.1 or above, is suggested, as it will further enhance your immersion in the experience of Call of Duty.

Gameplay is standard FPS, so you already know what to expect. This game is somewhat squad based, so you'll have to heal squad mates in order to complete objectives, and your squadmate's AI at times isn't the best in the world.

All in all, I'd suggest this game to anyone who loves history, great shooters, or just completely immersive games. The only minus to the whole thing is the AI of your squadmates.

Horrible

Call of Duty games are the same thing every game. Except now you can drive a tank at a fasinating speed of maybe 10 MPH with a gun that doesnt shoot straight. Right now im on a level where you have to advance two machine gunners firing at you with little to no cover.i hide behind this little wall and the bullets are flying past both sides. HOW DO YOU PASS THAT WITH A BAD GUN?? This game tries to hard also. They try to make it accurate down to the last detail. Which sometimes is ridiculous. No one in 1942-1944 lived and fought like your expected in this game with the horrible firing accuracy of the guns. Anyway, my point is dont waste your money. Buy Medal of Honor Frontline, or The original Call of Duty for PC. Oh by the way I am a huge COD fan. Not some guy who bought this never playing a Call of duty game before.

Too hard and slow

I think that this Call of Duty was to hard and the gameplay was to slow. I didn't enjoy this game. I didn't have fun while playing this Call of Duty. I struggling to keep alive and make my objectives. Too hard for me atleast. Rent before buying this one, or play call of duty 2 big red one if you have just the original xbox and your looking for a call of duty.

Fails to top the original in any way.

The only thing that I didn't like about the original was that it was too short. This game is longer, but the levels aren't nearly as fun as they used to be. They no longer have some of the best weapons either, such as the M1A1 Carbine. The graphics are about the same as the original though. Another thing I loved about the original was that you never felt like you were fighting the war all by yourself, as you always went into battle with lots of allies. In Call of Duty: Finest Hour, you rarely find yourself fighting alongside more than five other troops (except in the first mission). My biggest complaint about this game is the AI. In Medal of Honor: Frontline, the enemy troops will kick a thrown grenade back at you or sprint for cover. In Finest Hour, the enemy troops just go prone and cover their heads, even when the grenade lands only a few inches away from them. There was one time where I threw a grenade through a window of a house with an enemy soldier standing at the front door. He had the right idea, as this time he actually tried to find cover. He decided that the house was the best protection from a grenade, so he ran inside and met his doom. Right idea, wrong time. As for the missions themselves, they are all devided up into sections: The Russian campaign, the British campaign, and the American campaign. The Russian campaign, being the first, is the easiest. However, this campaign is made up largely of tank battles, which are very frustrating and not really much fun. Your tank is difficult to control and the missions are the same thing every time. You just drive around in your tank, mowing down endless waves of infantry with a machine gun and destroying enemy tanks with two good hits from your big gun. It is also very difficult to spot anti-tank units hiding in bombed out buildings. I often found myself scanning every building for up to three minutes searching for an elusive tank killer sitting in a window, taking pot shots at me every few seconds. The British campaign, which is definitely my favorate one, has interesting mission objectives as you play as a member as a British special forces team, but it's only a few missions long. The American campaign is the final set of missions. Most of these missions have you following a bunch of tanks around a city, so they can blow up some important buildings. Fuuuuun... Then you go down into the sewers and root out the rest of the enemy hideouts. All of the environments in the American campaign are also very dull. The sky is gray, the buildings are gray, the enemys uniforms are gray... The last mission isn't nearly passable as an amazing finish either. You trudgh across a VERY long bridge, take out lots of MG42 nests along the way. Then you go to the top of a tower, get on a AA gun and shoot down some Stukas. The end. I found myself shouting "Thats it?!" when the credits started rolling. There isn't really any reason to play through the game again once you beat it. As for multiplayer... there is XBOX Live and system link, but no split screen. For those of you who have XBOX Live, have fun. If not, you might as well just rent the game. You can finish it in a few days. If you want a lasting WWII FPS, get the original for PC. That one has free online play anyway.

Good WWII game but not the best

I love all the action, explosion...weapons and the storylines. But this isnt the best. As you go more and more into the game. The enemy starts to overwhelm you too much. There are two parts in the game one in the USSR and Aachen, where you have to kill as many Nazi Panzerschreck squads before they destroy whatever needs to be protected.

It took me forever to guide the m12 in the part in the game where youre playing the US...the Big Red One...but the thing was, I ended up losing once again. After they destroy that townhall, Nazis come from the sewers and attack again.

Bottom line...action and graphics and everything else is awesome...the overwhelming of the enemy is "pushing it" in this one. But I like it enuff that Im going to buy the other two parts.

One of the Finest First Person Shooters Available!

As a lover and avid player of FPS (First Person Shooter) type games, I am probably one of the toughest critics and a game must satisfy all my criteria for me to give it a 5/5 rating. Without any doubts, Call of Duty Finest Hour has successfully accomplished this lofty goal.

To start with, Call of Duty Finest Hour is entirely based on events that happened during World War II. But, ActiVision took on a bigger role than just making a video game and actually tries and succeeds in teaching us a brief history lesson. Granted it's very short and concise, but it helps to setup the game and it's many diverse and challenging levels.

You start out playing as a member of the Russian Army fighting with your comrades on the Eastern Front, from the Volga to Stalingrad. The missions can be somewhat difficult to finish, but the squad leader does give you instructions (just as if you were in the army) on what you need to do or where you need to go. "Blow up that building" and "Take out those machine guns" are typical fare. And most of the time you are a member of a "squad", so don't try to be all "Rambo" and try to defeat the Germans all by yourself. You will get slaughtered!

After you complete your mission(s) as one person, you are then placed in someone else's shoes and get to fight the war from their perspective. Which also opens you up to using different weapons and driving around in tanks. But, this is not Grand Theft Auto. You can't go around and jump in vehicles and take off. Your tour of duty on the Eastern Front with the Russians takes a total of 8 sometimes-grueling missions. At least the game is very forgiving and lets you restart the mission at the last checkpoint.

After the Eastern Front, you are whisked off to North Africa to serve with the British Army in Tunisia. All of the buildings and backgrounds used in this game are simply amazing. There is a lot of rich and articulate detail to keep your attention. You will serve a total of 4 missions with the bulldogs. More neat weapons used by the Brits and a lot of blowing stuff up in these levels. G-D Save the Queen!

And last, but not least, you go to the Western Front to fight with the American Army. As in previous levels, you get more awesome weapons to shoot and tanks to drive. Some of the toughest battles will be fought with the Americans. A total of 7 missions await your shooting skills.

Call of Duty Finest Hour by ActiVision is available for the Playstation 2, Xbox and Gamecube. It is rated "T" for Teen and contains a ton of blood and a whole lot of violence. Since this game is based on World War II, blood and violence is to be expected. Total missions are 19 and 23 different weapons.

This game is Single Player only, but does offer multiplayer online broadband only and 2-16 players. Online gametypes are: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Search & Destroy.
Overall, this game was as close to perfect as they can get with very few technical glitches. Like one time I was crawling around on the floor and trying to climb a flight of stairs and my character just fell through some empty space to his terrible death.

This game was just so well balanced between missions, story, music and action that I had to give it a 5/5.

It's really an awesome game, so go ahead and get a copy.
