COD 4 is probably the most complete, beautiful and overall best, video game i've ever played. The only issue i have is that it is too short. The action literally leave one breathless.
The casting, and art is beyond belief. The staging is well thought through and the various missions are selected to exercise every facility of the game machine.

As a lover and avid player of FPS (First Person Shooter) type games, I am probably one of the toughest critics and a game must satisfy all my criteria for me to give it a 5/5 rating. Without any doubts, Call of Duty Finest Hour has successfully accomplished this lofty goal.
To start with, Call of Duty Finest Hour is entirely based on events that happened during World War II. But, ActiVision took on a bigger role than just making a video game and actually tries and succeeds in teaching us a brief history lesson. Granted it's very short and concise, but it helps to setup the game and it's many diverse and challenging levels.
You start out playing as a member of the Russian Army fighting with your comrades on the Eastern Front, from the Volga to Stalingrad. The missions can be somewhat difficult to finish, but the squad leader does give you instructions (just as if you were in the army) on what you need to do or where you need to go. "Blow up that building" and "Take out those machine guns" are typical fare. And most of the time you are a member of a "squad", so don't try to be all "Rambo" and try to defeat the Germans all by yourself. You will get slaughtered!
After you complete your mission(s) as one person, you are then placed in someone else's shoes and get to fight the war from their perspective. Which also opens you up to using different weapons and driving around in tanks. But, this is not Grand Theft Auto. You can't go around and jump in vehicles and take off. Your tour of duty on the Eastern Front with the Russians takes a total of 8 sometimes-grueling missions. At least the game is very forgiving and lets you restart the mission at the last checkpoint.
After the Eastern Front, you are whisked off to North Africa to serve with the British Army in Tunisia. All of the buildings and backgrounds used in this game are simply amazing. There is a lot of rich and articulate detail to keep your attention. You will serve a total of 4 missions with the bulldogs. More neat weapons used by the Brits and a lot of blowing stuff up in these levels. G-D Save the Queen!
And last, but not least, you go to the Western Front to fight with the American Army. As in previous levels, you get more awesome weapons to shoot and tanks to drive. Some of the toughest battles will be fought with the Americans. A total of 7 missions await your shooting skills.
Call of Duty Finest Hour by ActiVision is available for the Playstation 2, Xbox and Gamecube. It is rated "T" for Teen and contains a ton of blood and a whole lot of violence. Since this game is based on World War II, blood and violence is to be expected. Total missions are 19 and 23 different weapons.
This game is Single Player only, but does offer multiplayer online broadband only and 2-16 players. Online gametypes are: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag and Search & Destroy.
Overall, this game was as close to perfect as they can get with very few technical glitches. Like one time I was crawling around on the floor and trying to climb a flight of stairs and my character just fell through some empty space to his terrible death.
This game was just so well balanced between missions, story, music and action that I had to give it a 5/5.
It's really an awesome game, so go ahead and get a copy.
Too hard and slow

I think that this Call of Duty was to hard and the gameplay was to slow. I didn't enjoy this game. I didn't have fun while playing this Call of Duty. I struggling to keep alive and make my objectives. Too hard for me atleast. Rent before buying this one, or play call of duty 2 big red one if you have just the original xbox and your looking for a call of duty.
Good WWII game but not the best

I love all the action, explosion...weapons and the storylines. But this isnt the best. As you go more and more into the game. The enemy starts to overwhelm you too much. There are two parts in the game one in the USSR and Aachen, where you have to kill as many Nazi Panzerschreck squads before they destroy whatever needs to be protected.
It took me forever to guide the m12 in the part in the game where youre playing the US...the Big Red One...but the thing was, I ended up losing once again. After they destroy that townhall, Nazis come from the sewers and attack again.
Bottom line...action and graphics and everything else is awesome...the overwhelming of the enemy is "pushing it" in this one. But I like it enuff that Im going to buy the other two parts.
Horrible

Call of Duty games are the same thing every game. Except now you can drive a tank at a fasinating speed of maybe 10 MPH with a gun that doesnt shoot straight. Right now im on a level where you have to advance two machine gunners firing at you with little to no cover.i hide behind this little wall and the bullets are flying past both sides. HOW DO YOU PASS THAT WITH A BAD GUN?? This game tries to hard also. They try to make it accurate down to the last detail. Which sometimes is ridiculous. No one in 1942-1944 lived and fought like your expected in this game with the horrible firing accuracy of the guns. Anyway, my point is dont waste your money. Buy Medal of Honor Frontline, or The original Call of Duty for PC. Oh by the way I am a huge COD fan. Not some guy who bought this never playing a Call of duty game before.
Good game but not worth the price of 50 bucks

This game is a game I picked up at gamestop when i was in need of a game. I think i got it for 20 dollars. This game is a good game to play but i would not have payed more than 20 dollars for it, its just not worth that kind of money.
The story of course is based on WW2 so there isnt much to explain about it. The cinematechs are just old clips of ww2 events with some guy talking in the background explaining the event and then you play the event. It doesnt really bring you into the game all that well.
The gameplay is probly the strongest quality of the game. IT really brings you the aspect of being in a world war. The only problem is the game is really short, too short to be exact. Also the gameplay didnt really have that much detail. The weapons are the usual world war 2 weapons, I still hate the crap loading but I mean if they had to deal with it back then i guess we should play with it. Sadly it has no multiplayer except for live, I would have really liked to see a co-op mulitplayer. The levels in the game were good but then again the levels were short and the missions were'nt that hard to complete. The gameplay though did have a lot of stuff going on at once which is a great feature. I mean you would see a plane come across drop a bomb while a tank shoots down a building while grenades are flying off cement walls and thousands of people running for cover from a turret......its pretty sweet. I believe the beginning of the game is by far the best when you are the russians. It has the most fun levels with that sort of craziness. As the game goes on it starts to get boring especially when you hit the part in the game where u play as the united states, I would think they would make this part the most fun, but you do the boring missions in that part of the game, it gets really boring.
The graphics could have been a lot better in my aspect. IF the graphics were good the game would have jumped to a 4 overall for me. The sound in the game is good and there is always sounds of people and your men screaming. In suround sound its beastly.
Overall this game could have been a lot better, it is def not worth more than 20 bucks and it only keeps you occupied for a little bit cause then it gets boring. Another thing that really annoys me is if a game has a really boring main menu screen, it pisses me off cause then i dont feel like playing and this game has a really boring menu screen. The gameplay though does get boring as you go through the game and I'm still so bored of the gameplay that i never bought the second one and I probly wont buy the third one for ps3.
Allies vs Axis.....again.

While I do love a great FPS, I have become incredibly weary of World War II shooters. That being said, I started this game not expecting much. Man, was I surprised. Call of Duty is probably one of the best World War II shooter franchises on the market.
Once you get started, you're immersed in the trenches of the European theater of World War II. Graphically, this game is a masterpiece, with incredibly detailed environments. Also, having a surround sound system, preferably dolby digital 5.1 or above, is suggested, as it will further enhance your immersion in the experience of Call of Duty.
Gameplay is standard FPS, so you already know what to expect. This game is somewhat squad based, so you'll have to heal squad mates in order to complete objectives, and your squadmate's AI at times isn't the best in the world.
All in all, I'd suggest this game to anyone who loves history, great shooters, or just completely immersive games. The only minus to the whole thing is the AI of your squadmates.

This is a great game. The only thing that takes it down a little is that its dark all the time, not allowing you to explore the magnificient levels, taking some fun out of it.
Otherwise, though, this game is very realistic, with great graphics, even if you can't appreciate them sometimes due to darkness. It is possibly the most realistic war game to come out with a lot of historical relevance. The good thing is that it is a good blend of the historical stuff and heroism barely possible to achieve in real life (you need a little of that in every war game). This game has an average selection of weapons, but you dont really need a huge variety of weapons to have fun with it.
If your looking into it, buy this game, but if you are comparing it (or already have) call of duty 2, just get 2 and skip this one.
The cover shows it all!!!

When I first saw the first Call of Duty, it reminded me of Medal of Honor, which is also on the Xbox. But this is amazingly much better. Playing it the first time wanted me to keep playing it again and again. But why? Here are the reasons:
The missions- What you has to do makes you feel like you are a luitenit on a mission trying to kill people, going through sewers, or riding tanks getting to a destination. Whatever it is, there is always action that goes along with it. Whether it is shooters, planes dropping bombs, or other tanks. This is one of the most important things about the game, if the game is realistic.
The story- The whole game is about World War 2 where the Germans are trying to take over the whole Middle East and Europe. You change people almost every mission with a different story each time about the character, how their family is, why the went to the army, how they got into such a position. It is very cool!!
The graphics- As you know, the Xbox of all of the systems of that generation (XB360 is next generation) has the best graphics, and game shows it. It is a wow when you first see it. That is also what brought you into the game.
This is the shooter game that will be re-made over and over again, and this was the first one, and I was amazed. Buy this if you liked this review!
