Minor faults aside, this is one amazing racing game!

Having been a huge fan of Burnout 1 and 2, I was really looking forward to this release.

This truly is an amazing racing game. I love the non linear progression through the world series and the added bells and whistles such as the 'crash FM' announcer.

Graphically it is different to both Burnout 1 and 2. Personally I feel that not as much detail has been given to the buildings, however everything is moving so fast that you don't really have time to notice it.

One major complaint for me is the lack of the vibrational effect. I thought the effect added so much to the previous burnout games - drive over cobbled stones for instance and the controller vibrates madly. In Burnout 3 there is some slight vibration during some crashes. That's it. Though this is one minor glitch in an otherwise hard to fault game.

I rarely pay full price for games but just couldn't wait for Burnout 3!!! Hopefully there will be a Burnout 4 next year!

Excellent Racing Game!!

This game is an excellent game by any standards, and is enjoyable for anyone with a fast enough reaction time. Having never played NFS: Underground myself, or many other racing games for that matter, I was very open to suggestions about racing games. I do own the first Burnout game, and was impressed with it when it came out, but quickly got bored.
I didn't play Burnout 2: Point of Impact, but didn't really want to. So when Burnout 3: Takedown came out, and recieved a 9.5 at Gamespot.com, and my friends told me it was cool, I had to check it out. I went to Best Buy and played the demo for a few minutes, and had to have it!!
This game has excellent graphics, sound and replayability. It is definetely not lacking in debth and length, with it's 170+ events, and 67+ vehicles. The game also never lacks in motivation to continue playing. With tons of stuff to unlock, and the knowledge of what things unlock what stuff, you'll never be satisified until everythings done!
If you like fast paced, action packed adventure, with mind-blowing crashes and tons of awesome cars...buy or rent this game today!

This game boasts super exciting gameplay and beautifully rendered graphics(much better than burnout 2).Add to that a blazing 60fps frame rate w/o slowdown,no pop ups and some brilliant crash animations and you have one marvellous game-believe me-this is a marvellous game. This game leaves other arcade racers like the Need for Speed series and even its predecessors(burnout1&2)in the dust.Criterion games has created a winner which ranks right up there among the very best of xbox racing games.
Buy it!

I'm not your typical gamer. I was at a buddy's house a few weeks back and he casually showed me this game and forced me to play a, "quick race". I thought, "Okay sure, I like the racing games". So I sat down and he turned it on. The soundtrack alone is incredible!! So then the race starts, OH MY GOSH!!!! The insanity of it all!!! I played for about 10 minutes then pulled myself away. I picked up my own copy a few days ago and since then almost every free minute I have I am racing. I try to get a quick race in before I shower in the mornings and head to work. I'm staying up until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights! At work I'm listening to the soundtrack and wishing I were playing. I am so addicted it's not even funny. If you're looking for probably the BEST racing game to hit the streets in a good long while then look no further. I can't say enough good things about this game. Plus the game comes with 2 months of free Xbox Live, so I hooked up to that. I am utterly blown away by this game. Single player is fantastic, Live gaming is fantastic, this game is simply... FANTASTIC!!!

$20 well spent here

This is a must-have for all Xbox owners!!! This game is is a racing game to the core but has spectacular crash sequences and brillant sense of speed. I don't even like racing games and I appreciate the good times Burnout 3: Takedown has brought to me. The game is probably the best in the series besides the new one which I have yet to play the full version(I've only played the demo off madden 06) Still not convinced? They have more. Play Crash mode where the objective is to get the most damage from a crash by hitting: semis, buses, taxis, and other cars. They also have Roadrage where your objective is to takedown as many cars as you can until the time runs out or your completely wrecked.

The only flaw in this game is that when you hit a car going the same direction as you in the back, it counts as a takedown. It may not seem like much but when your trying to weave through traffic going 120+, it makes all the difference. I'm glad to hear that the new Burnout has fixed that flaw.

Overall this is a must buy for everyone. I would recommend it to anyone even if they don't like racing games because it has revived my passion for racing games. Trust me, its unlike any other racing game you've ever played.

Acclaim Developed 1 and 2, and EA Games Developed 3

The most important thing to note here is that the third installment of this series was developed by a different company: EA Games. They tried to stay close to the first 2 games but ended up with a different spin. Here's a recap:

Burnout 1 featured linear game play keeping you contained within the track and some nice crashes.

Burnout 2 featured a crash mode, pursuit mode, an online score system and a more robust physics engine allowing you to propel your car off the track. The graphics also improved and showed more motion blur.

Burnout 3 features a much more robust physics engine allowing you to jump across bridges, soar into the air, go off of corkscrew jumps and the ever popular bullet time (slow motion during game play). Also there is online play that is just plain fun. The graphics go above and beyond Burnout 2 with increased motion blur, realistic crumpling effects, glass shattering smashes and grinding spark action.

Burnout 3 has more of an arcade style of game play than the previous two titles and because of that people can be turned off. The bottom line is, if you enjoyed Burnout 2 for its crashes, then you'll love Burnout 3.

BURNOUT 3 almost perfect.

I picked up Burnout 3 on 9/8/04 and I have to say I was impressed. The graphics and speed are amazing on the XBOX(unsure what PS2 offers) I also like the little touches like the sounds of the gears switching, whoosh as you pass other cars and the sound of the fire when you use the boost. My biggest complaint is the soundtrack. Completely terrible and would have expected more since Criterion games is in UK. This is my biggest dissappointment. Keep the alternative rock for skateboard games not for solid racing. Even a soundtrack like GTA 3 would have blown this ones away. SOUNDTRACK SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOMETHING LIKE ENERGY DRIVEN ELECTRONICA!!! The Soundtrack for one and two of the burnout series were better than this one. I shouldn't have to put in my own cd in the stereo while turning this crap off. I hope the artist licensing didn't cost too much because it was a waste. Also where is Pursuit mode? :(
Glad i still have burnout 2 for the PS2.

Infuriating, to say the least!

Good news first-- yes, it's fast (well, that's a mixed blessing, as I'll explain later) and the graphics and audio are both very nice. Oh, and the Road Rage mode (driving around a circuit and ramming into other cars) is a sadistically entertaining time killer.

The bad news-- I never before used so many expletives when playing a video game. My neighbors must think I've lost my mind since I cannot play this game for more than five minutes without swearing loudly at my television. While the sense of speed is well done, it just makes gameplay FAR too difficult. There are plenty of times you won't even notice an oncoming car until you've rammed into it. This is made even more frustrating by the game's entirely unforgiving nature-- in fastest lap competitions, you need to drive almost flawlessly to get even the minimum qualifying time. Crash once, and you're pretty much out of it. On the other hand, if you don't drive at top speed, with almost constant boost, you're also out of it. In regular racing modes, you can be ahead of the competition by 20-30 seconds, but crash once, and the competitors will suddenly be far ahead of YOU.

This frustration could have been allievated if the designers had the good sense to include a difficulty level option. But, no such luck.

The Crash Mode is entertaining at first. Sure, it's completely brainless (drive into an intersection and cause as much havoc as possible), but there's something fun about it. But the designers managed to screw this up as well. The are "power-ups" on the crash courses that can either multiply your score, add cash to your total winnings, or cut your score in half. Sorry, but driving around and trying to aim for (or avoid) certain icons just detracts from the experience of ramming into an intersection. And, of course, the designers thought it would be amusing to place the detrimental icons in the places you're most likely to drive, so even if you have a spectacular collision, your score will be miniscule. Thanks, guys. This IS supposed to be fun, isn't it?

While on the subject of Crash mode-- the loading can get annoying when you need to keep replaying an particular event. It first loads the track and shows you a preview of where those wonderful icons are. Then it reloads the track for some unknown reason so you can actually play it. Then it has a completely pointless 3-2-1 countdown before you can start racing. This is no problem if you only play a particular Crash event once or twice, but if you get stuck replaying it multiple times, it can piss you off because it will go through this whole procedure each time.

One other complaint-- almost EVERYTHING in the game is locked until you start winning events. So, when you first play the game, you're limited to three cars (with no discernable differences other than color), and one (yes, ONE) track. That's just stupid game design.

I wish I could have rated this game higher. I was excited to get it, loved the concept, and expected much, much more. As it is, I think I'll be returning this. I play games to have fun, not to get pissed off.

OUTSTANDING!!!

Burnout 3: Takedown is an arcade-type racing game for the Xbox. Please note that this is not a simulation racer like (ie, Gran Tourismo or Nascar). Burnout 3 is of course the sequel to Burnout 2. You race against computer or human opponents on freeways and city streets filled with regular street traffic. You and your rivals are dodging other cars or even drive against traffic when you go the the wrong way! Its actually even better to go the wrong way because when you avoid collisions, you'll be rewarded with boost meter. You can play several modes: Race (standard race), Time trials (beat the clock), World tournaments (race in other countries), Crash mode (cause car accident chain reactions) and a new feature called Road rage (awesome). Crash mode returns and to help you create more devestating accidents, they included powerups to help increase your score and destruction: some maps have money pick-ups, speed boost, multiplyer, and explosives. You can now activate super slow motion and guide your car in mid-air called "impact time" to targets. Your vehicle also acts as a bomb. If you press detonate, it will explode to cause more damage to the already lethal car accidents; and remember that this is happens in super slow motion and looks fantastic. In Road Rage mode you are trying to push your rivals off the road or cause them to crash while traveling at blazing speeds; hence the name "takedown". When you collect enough points you can unlock new, tracks, cars, and lots of other goodies. The sense of speed in this game is incredible!
Why bother buying other racers? Burnout 3 is the best there is! Many people have thanked me for recommending this game to them. But the real thanks should go to the creators for making this MASTERPIECE! Thank you! Thank you very much!
